Wedding Gowns for

MODERN BRIDES

Modern brides are redefining wedding dress expectations, embracing daring styles with plunging necklines and sensual silhouettes. But is being sexy taboo, or simply a bold way to express confidence and individuality?

Being Daring and Sexy on Your Wedding Day: When It’s Time to Break the Taboo

Traditionally, wedding dresses have been synonymous with demure elegance, modesty, and a sense of ethereal grace. But let’s face it - today’s brides are increasingly redefining the rules, boldly stepping into a space where sexy is no longer a bad word. They’re embracing daring designs, flaunting figurehugging silhouettes, and weaving sensual elements into their bridal looks. But where should you draw the line between daring and distasteful, and when does being sexy become a taboo worth breaking?

Lihi Hod, Venus www.lihihod.com

Embracing the Modern Bride’s Vision

The classic ballgown may always have its place in bridal fashion, but today’s designers are catering to a broader range of tastes and preferences, championing brides who want to feel confident and glamorous. These brides understand that “sexy” doesn’t have to mean “over the top.” It can be a hint of skin through lace illusion panels, a dramatic plunge neckline, or a thigh-high slit that adds just the right amount of flair.

For some, these daring elements might seem out of step with the conservative expectations of a wedding ceremony. After all, a wedding is supposed to be a solemn occasion, right? Well, not anymore. The modern wedding is a celebration of a couple’s unique story and style, and if a bride feels her best in a dress that pushes the envelope, that’s what matters most.

Finding Your Own Sexy

Being daring doesn’t mean compromising on taste. It’s all about balancing boldness with elegance, ensuring that you’re making a statement without overwhelming the essence of who you are. For brides looking to explore this sensuous style, consider your own comfort level and the nature of your ceremony. A low back or intricate cut-outs can add a sense of drama, while sheer overlays create a layered, multidimensional look that teases rather than reveals.

Don’t forget about the power of the perfect fabric. Silk, satin, and crepe naturally sculpt the body, hugging every curve in a way that’s both tasteful and seductive. Lace, on the

other hand, can be layered to create delicate details that hint at what’s underneath without fully giving it away. The right fabric can amplify a bold design choice, elevating it from risqué to runway-ready.

When Daring Becomes Taboo

There’s no one-size-fits-all rulebook when it comes to choosing a wedding dress, but one thing’s for sure: not every family member or friend is going to embrace a gown that defies convention. Whether it’s a church setting with stricter guidelines or relatives who expect the bride to embody pure innocence, you might feel pressured to tone it down. In these cases, consider using your sexier elements in moderation. A detachable skirt or cape can help you transition from ceremony to reception, allowing you to honour tradition and then step out in a look that truly feels like you.

Breaking Free of Bridal Norms

Ultimately, your wedding day is about celebrating your love and your sense of style. The very definition of ‘sexy’ is subjective; what feels daring to one bride might seem tame to another. So, if you want to wear a dress that pushes the boundaries of traditional bridal fashion, embrace it! Being daring isn’t about turning heads for the sake of shock value; it’s about choosing a dress that tells your love story as boldly as you live it.

The takeaway? Sexy isn’t a taboo, it’s a choice. And if that choice makes you feel radiant, empowered, and breathtaking, it’s the perfect one for your wedding day.

FAIRY TALES

DO COME TRUE

One lucky bride-to-be’s wedding dreams came true when they were called on Valentine’s Day to announce that she had won an incredible Dream Wedding competition, worth up to £25,000!

Pictured below is Evie Edwards and her partner James, the winners of this year’s Dream Wedding Competition

One lucky UKbride member’s life changed this Valentine’s Day when her wedding dreams came true. We were delighted to announce that Evie Edwards, from Wolverhampton, is the winner of our 2025 Dream Wedding competition, a prize worth up to £25,000.

Valentine’s Day always brings excitement at UKbride HQ, but it’s also when we prepare to call our latest winner. Each year, thousands of brides-to-be enter our Dream Wedding competition, and the moment we reveal the name of the lucky winner is truly unforgettable.

This year, our Prize Draw Host, Aisha, picked up the phone and dialled Evie’s number. The tension built with every ring until finally a voice answered. “Evie’s phone…” came the tentative response, and within seconds, delight and shock filled the room as Aisha revealed the life-changing news. Evie had just become the winner of a wedding worth £25,000. “It was just pure magic,” recalls Aisha. “The moment she realised, you could hear the joy and surprise in her voice—it’s the best part of our job.”

For Evie, the call was a complete bolt from the blue. Engaged to fiancé James since September, she admits she never really believed she’d win. “It was just so surreal,” she says, still sounding amazed as she reflects on the moment.

“You start entering competitions because you never know, but it never feels like it’s going to be you. When I realised we’d actually won, it was just incredible.” James, equally stunned by the news, couldn’t believe their luck either. What had begun as a normal Valentine’s Day turned into one they’ll both

remember for the rest of their lives. Evie and James’s romance has been full of special milestones, but the proposal remains one of their most cherished memories. During a holiday getaway, James carefully planned every detail of a surprise Evie says she’ll treasure forever.

“It was our anniversary,” she recalls, “and James took me to a beautiful restaurant right by a waterfall. He’d arranged for the waiter to play music and even to video the moment he asked me to marry him. I had no idea— it was just perfect.”

The date is already set—30th August 2026— and the couple are well underway with planning. Evie has her dream venue booked, after discovering Castle Bromwich Hall on UKbride’s extensive venue listings. “We just fell in love with it,” Evie explains. “It’s so beautiful—very old-fashioned, very English—and it just felt right for us the moment we saw it.” The historic setting is the perfect backdrop for a romantic latesummer wedding, and Evie can’t wait to begin pulling all the details together. From flowers to photography, dresses to décor, her

£25,000 prize gives her the freedom to create the day she’s always imagined.

As part of her wedding planning journey, Evie is attending the National Wedding Show at the NEC this March, where she’ll also get to meet Aisha—the very person who shared the news that changed everything.

“I was originally going for ideas on budgeting,” she admits, “but now I can just go and enjoy it all without worrying about costs. I’m most excited for the catwalk—it’ll be amazing to see all the inspiration for dresses and styling.” The National Wedding Show marks another milestone in what is already shaping up to be an unforgettable engagement period.

For brides-to-be across the UK, Evie’s story is a shining reminder that dreams really can come true. And the best part? The Dream Wedding competition for 2026 is now open. To give yourself the best chance of winning, consider becoming a UKbride Power User.

Not only will you automatically receive 100 extra chances to win our £25,000 Dream Wedding prize, but you’ll also enjoy exclusive monthly prize draws, discounts from leading wedding suppliers, and access to premium planning tools that make organising your big day a breeze.

From everyone at UKbride, a huge congratulations to Evie and James on their spectacular win. We can’t wait to follow their journey as they plan the wedding of their dreams, and we look forward to celebrating with them when they finally say “I do” in August 2026. And to every bride-to-be reading this: don’t forget to enter. Next Valentine’s Day, it could be your phone ringing.

A HILLTOP WEDDING WITH HEART

Grace and Oliver found the perfect blend of warmth, flexibility, and unforgettable personal touches at Hilltop Country House.

How Hilltop Country House helped with wedding planning

From the moment we booked until our wedding, the team were there to answer questions and make recommendations. Grace is Coeliac and wanted to be able to eat all canapés. The chefs made this happen as well as Poutine evening food. At our tasting event we got a taste of the wedding breakfast which made the menu decision-making much easier! Hilltop’s mixologist Cameron created my perfect Vanilla Chai White Russian. The team were flexible with requests, making our personal touches happen. We always felt welcome and supported throughout.

Any themes/special touches

We took inspiration from the beautiful gardens for our wedding theme. We wanted to give a cozy, farmhouse feel, like the flowers

had been picked from the garden. Homestead Grown created stunning flower displays for our tables in jugs and vases from charity shops, a trailing bouquet, posies and button holes. We created our wedding sign from wooden pallets and the table names were the maiden names of the women of the family paired with their wedding photographs. We displayed our table plan on painting ladders used to decorate our house!

How everything ran on the day and the part you played in this

The team were professional, beautifully dressed, attentive and non-intrusive. They blended into the celebrations but always there when needed. It was like a perfectly run family party where we felt at home. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding planning team, they struck the perfect balance of

professionalism and warmth. They were organised and detail-oriented while maintaining a calm, laid-back presence. Their attentiveness made us feel heard and supported. It was a gift to work with a team who knew what they were doing but also made everything feel personal and stress-free.

Their most memorable moment

The ceremony was the best part of our day. We married on the terrace with an aisle through the flowers and trees. The weather was perfect, the music so fitting; we soaked in every moment. To be marrying the love of your life, surrounded by the people that mean the most, in the most idyllic setting, it really was everything we had hoped for and more. We had Aluinn Ceilidh band which created some of the funniest, most memorable moments.

Win Your Wedding

It really could happen to you! In this edition we meet Jade and Marcus, the couple who won UKbride’s 2023 Dream Wedding competition. Here’s how they met, where he proposed... and what happened next!

Photography: Ricky Barden, 020 8668 0018, www.2020photos.co.uk.

Beauty and the beast? Cor!

That’s a bit much! No, she’s only kidding, although Jade’s opinion of her husband Marcus, when they first met, wasn’t exactly complimentary. “I thought he was a bit big-headed actually!”

Needless to say, her opinion of him has changed considerably since an act of chivalry helped a tiddly Jade get home safe, sound... and without sore feet!

“I grew up in Longbridge and studied Performing Arts at what is now South & City College, so that’s where I met Marcus.”

“We worked together on a few shows and as he lived in Bromsgrove, where my father also lives. We bumped into each other on a night out.”

“Love2Love was the most popular club at the time and the upper of the two dance floors was always music from the 70s to the 90s. Marcus is more keen on rock than pop, but he’s a bit of an enigma really because he also likes musicals, which is where we found common ground in our musical tastes!”

“My feet were killing as I left the club one night and he wanted to make sure I got home safely which I thought was really sweet, so he

offered to give me a piggy-back home. Suddenly my aching ankles and I both saw a totally different side to him!”

Jade moved into a flat with a friend, although her friend moved out after six months, and so, with romance blossoming, Marcus moved in.

The two took a trip to Disneyland to celebrate Jade’s 25th birthday, which coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Paris park’s opening too. With the iconic castle in the background, Marcus dropped down onto one knee and popped the question, presenting Jade with the most beautiful ring.

“I was carrying the ring around with me all day and didn’t know about it! He proposed to me at the end of the day under the fireworks.”

“He even waited until the Céline Dion song ‘How Does a Moment Last Forever’ from the recently released Beauty and the Beast film was playing. We have a bit of an inside joke that we’re Beauty and the Beast as Marcus has so much facial hair!”

That was in 2017, and in 2018 and 2022 the couple brought their two children, Scarlett and Albie into the world. Wedding planning was also curtailed by redundancy in 2022 as well, so the couple decided that 2023 would be a fresh start, and that planning their wedding would be a good place to start.

“We joined UKbride and found it a really good place to have a look at venues and wedding dresses and to find local suppliers,” says Jade.

To the couple’s surprise, an unexpected call on Valentine’s Day 2023 changed the course of the

couple’s wedding planning as UKbride’s Marketing Manager called Jade and delivered the news that the couple had been chosen as that year’s winners of a dream wedding package, with curated suppliers from across the wedding industry worth up to£25,000, meticulously assembled by the UKbride team with help from our wonderful suppliers and partners.

The prize included pre-wedding treats, wedding day essentials and a whopping £6,000 cash that the couple used to fund their dream honeymoon... this time to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

“It’s our favourite time of the year,” says UKbride’s Managing Director, Matthew Deere. “We make the call live and when you’re gathered around the phone you hold your breath as it’s all being recorded. You hope that the winner picks up, you hope that all goes well and you hope you get a reaction just like Jade’s she was happy, delighted and emotional.

It’s really exciting for us so we can only imagine what the couples feel!”

“We were shocked and thrilled!” says Jade. “It was like the competitions you see on TV... you never think you’re going to win. We couldn’t believe it!”

It was one of two exciting phone calls that day, because only a couple of hours before UKbride called Jade to name her as our winner, she also had a job interview with Jaguar Land Rover for a position in their finance and payroll offices. We’re pleased to say that she got the job, and remains there today... although working full time for a busy world-class motoring brand does leave you short for other activities... like planning a wedding!

“It can feel overwhelming when you start to plan your wedding but UKbride has made it so easy to find the best local suppliers.”

“I’ve found it so easy to discover and get in contact with local businesses. I also loved getting inspiration from the real weddings and reading other

people’s experiences of what to do and what not to do!”

The website has over 1.1 million members, over three million pages and 174,000 Facebook fans.

As well as advice and inspiration the site runs monthly competition for its Power Users as well as a flagship competition where, every year, one lucky couple is chosen to win all the elements of their dream wedding worth up to £25,000.

“We booked our venue, Manor Hill House in Bromsgrove, as we wanted a marquee wedding but on the side of a permanent venue, so it really appealed. We had a venue, and a date but then, after that, you’re faced with all sorts of decisions and prices.”

The UKbride prize package comprised everything from Jade’s beautiful A-line wedding dress from Best Dress 2 Impress and Marcus’s tailoring to the couple’s wedding rings, to a photography package courtesy of 2020 Photos, photo album and guestbook. From working

with Simply4You by Bronnie to create bespoke wedding stationery and organising hen and stag evenings with Bistro Live to wedding flowers courtesy of Fiona Haliburton and natural confetti from Shropshire Petals, the couple’s day was super memorable.

“There’s so many things to take in, so many things to see and do and so many people to spend time with one the day,” says Jade.

“It goes so quickly so it’s really important that you just take the time to stand back and spend time with your new husband and wife to just absorb the joy of the day!”

“It was just the best day you could imagine and the suppliers were absolutely super. We’re really grateful to UKbride, as winning the prize helped massively to create our perfect day, one we’ll remember celebrating with family and friends forever!”

Rustic Elegance for your

WEDDING

Wedding photographer Sarah Vivienne and a number of other wedding professionals have collaborated on a styled wedding shoot at Deene Park to show off how to achieve a rustic elegant look for your special day...

Photography: Sarah Vivienne Photography, 01604 372543, www.sarahvivienne.co.uk.

Country Elegance Country Elegance was a hallmark of this month’s styled wedding shoot created by local suppliers including photographer Sarah Vivienne.

The images are designed to show what happens when couples work with dedicated wedding professionals to create a stylish reception, whether you’ve an elegant setting like Deene Park in mind or a fun rustic event with teepees or marquee.

Deene Park, the ancestral home of the Brudenell Family since 1514, is a 500-acre private estate with the historic manor house at its heart.

Today the family home forms the breath-taking backdrop for garden civil ceremonies, luxury outdoor marquee weddings,

or bespoke teepee weddings by the lakeside – offering couples ultimate flexibility to create the wedding of their dreams within the exclusivity of a private estate.

Teepees & Tents, who provided these rustic Nordic teepees, ensured the comfort of the guests with solid oak benches, seating, planters, and magical fairy lights everywhere.

Elsewhere, stationery and styling helps to create a luxurious feel, with a large fabric table plan and white & olive table settings which coordinated with elegant table flowers and macarons.

Catering for luxurious tastes within a rustic style, there’s a limoncello bar, a selection of breads & charcuterie at the Crostini Station,

and Sael Bar created the ultimate evening bar experience in its own teepee.

Our couple Adele & Jamie were styled by Courtyard Bridal Boutique and Leicester-based Scotneys of London Road with hair and makeup by Love Laura and Courtney Jane.

“We had a great time working with one another to show just how good a Rutland or Stamford-based wedding can look when you seek out the creativity and flair of local suppliers,” says Sarah.

“We’ve some super talented people in the area who are dedicated to making sure their couples’ day is everything they’ve ever dreamed of, and when we all work together, we can achieve great things!”

A SPECIAL GUEST AT A STATELY HOME

For this month’s couple, Connie & Mason, it was love at first sight, just like in the movies… but the groom had his own ideas for the big screen, and their story has a bit of a plot twist with a surprise ending too!

Photographer: Sarah Carter, 07970 327716, www.sarahcarterphotography.co.uk.

We’ve heard some fairly romantic stories over the years, but Mason’s surprise proposal has to be one of the best. He and Connie were born and raised near Boston, and met one evening on a night out.

Mason was a friend of Connie’s brother and upon bumping into each other in their preferred club, neither could deny that it was love at first sight, just like in the movies.

And speaking of which, when Mason surprised Connie with an unexpected proposal in July 2021, he’d worked

hard to create not just his own blockbuster, but the cinema too.

“It was totally unexpected and it came out of nowhere!” says Connie.

“We knew that we loved each other and wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, so I guess I knew it would happen at some point, but I wasn’t expecting him to propose there, or with as much style!”

Connie had planned a day out with her mum but the latter insisted they make an unexpected visit to her grandmother’s farm to pick up

something that her mum had ‘forgotten.’

Mason had created an outdoor cinema in an inflatable igloo complete with a big screen, fairy lights, candles and flower petals, beanbags and even a popcorn machine.

That night saw Mason making his directorial debut as the creator of a film about the couple’s life together with all of their moments from their travels and holidays to their first dog and the first house they moved into

REAL WEDDINGS

all recorded, featuring little videos and photographs of their life together. At the end of the film Mason dropped down on one knee and asked Connie to marry him.

“We considered a barn wedding, a marquee wedding… but when we visited Harlaxton Manor we absolutely fell in love with the place, with its history, its architecture and its grounds,” says Connie.

Connie found her wedding dress – a dress by British designer Suzanne Neville – at Oxford bridal boutique Ellie Sanderson, with bridal makeup by Rachel Bray, and hair by Lorna Dobrianskyj.

The couple’s bridesmaids sourced their black dresses online and the gentlemen wore Cavani tailoring.

The couple’s wedding breakfast was courtesy of Harlaxton and took place in the State Dining Room with its Jacobean ceiling and frieze.

On the cake table was a tall two-tier vanilla and white chocolate cake courtesy of Old Leake’s Cake Happy. Floristry, meanwhile, was created by Glen Esk of Grantham with orchids and ox-eye daisies, and the couple created their own wedding decorations, stationery and favours.

Mason has also worked hard on the wedding transport, his beloved – and beautifully restored – Mk1 Volkswagen Caddy pickup truck.

Connie says she’s not entirely sure of the order in which she, their beloved dappled dachshund Winston, and the VW feature in Mason’s life…

Entertainment was courtesy of local singer-songwriter Matty Haynes and DJ Jack Toyer… although the three groomsmen, Lewis, Tom and Jason also surprised the couple with a bespoke ballad they’d written and diligently rehearsed. The fledgeling boy band appearing during the speeches in matching gold jackets to perform the song, all about the couple’s life together.

“It was captured by our videographer Josh Hyde who worked with our photographer Sarah Carter.”

“Together they worked made such an effort to ensure we’ve capture all of the incredible moments during the day.”

“Our parents, grandparents, and our friends all worked helped to give us the day we’d dreamed of sharing with them. But there as another secret special guest at our wedding too.”

“A couple of weeks before the day we found out that I was pregnant. At the stage we hadn’t told anyone.”

“We’ll find out in a couple of weeks whether we’re expecting a boy or a girl, but we’re just happy and can’t wait until our due date in March.”

“We had the best day and we’re so grateful for all of the people who were there to share the laughs and the fun and the love with us!”

QUESTIONS TO ASK

THE BRIDAL SHOP

How many fittings will I have?

Usually you’ll have an initial fitting, then a further one after the changes have been done. The average amount of fittings is two to three. Because of the amount of fittings, it’s worth looking for dresses well in advance of the wedding day.

What should I bring with me?

You want to feel confident when you try on dresses. Some bridal shops will have strapless bras, heels and jewellery for you to try on with your dress but some may not. Make sure to bring an open mind too! You may surprise yourself with the dress you finally decide on.

Can I bring my mum and friends?

It’s always worth asking this question. Of course you want your friends and family there with you on the day, but some bridal shops may not have the space for you to do this.

If you have a busy lifestyle, it might also be worth asking if they do late evening fittings. It’s less busy at this time so you’ll be able to bring friends

What experience do you have?

If the store is in the Retail Bridal Association, it means the business has been running for more than five years and its standards are checked annually. Check if the seamstress is qualified. Make sure you’re visiting a store with good credentials.

What is included in the price?

When you buy a wedding dress, you try on the sizes they have in store. They then order that dress closest to your size and alter it to fit. Make sure you find out how much the alteration will cost; some bridal shops include alterations in the price but watch out for these additional costs.

Can I bring along a camera?

A lot of bridal shops surprisingly don’t allow this, but it’s important you ask so you can look over the pictures later and compare them to other styles you liked in different stores. If they don’t allow you to bring a camera or take photos, take a note of the name of the designer and the dress name or number so you can look the style up later online and save them that way.

A CLASSIC SILHOUETTE

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Dream Wedding

When planning a wedding in a warm, sunny location, selecting the right dress is key to looking radiant and feeling comfortable. In hot climates, consider lightweight, breathable fabrics like chiffon, organza, or crepe that allow air to flow and help keep you cool. Avoid heavier materials like satin or brocade, which can feel stifling in the heat.

Silhouettes are another important consideration. Slim, flowing styles, like A-line or sheath dressesoffer a breezy elegance, while voluminous ball gowns might trap heat and feel heavy over the day.

If you’re keen on a classic bridal look, consider a dress with layers of airy tulle or opt for detachable skirts or overskirts to switch up your look while staying cool.

Details matter too; intricate beading and dense lace can add weight, so look for lighter embellishments or simple lacework. Open backs, off-the-shoulder styles, or strapless dresses are perfect choices, adding a touch of glamour while keeping your look light and airy. Finally, think about practicalities. A shorter dress, like a chic mini or midi length, is playful and ideal for beach or garden settings. And don’t forget to plan for sun protection: a wide-brimmed hat, parasol, or lightweight shawl can add a stylish touch while shielding you from the sun. With these tips, you’ll be ready to shine, comfortably, in your dream dress, no matter how warm the weather.

GARTER

BRIDAL TRADITION

Wearing a garter adds charm, luck, and fun to your wedding day celebration.

Wearing a garter on your wedding day is a charming British tradition, symbolising luck and prosperity. Typically worn on the bride’s thigh, it adds a touch of elegance and fun to your bridal attire. Many brides include “something blue” in the garter for good fortune. The garter toss, where the groom removes it and throws it to unmarried guests, mirrors the bouquet toss, creating a playful and memorable moment during the wedding celebrations. A timeless detail for any bride.

BRIDESMAIDS

MORI LEE

Morilee’s bridesmaid collection bring sophistication and style to bridal parties, offering designs that flatter every figure and complement any wedding theme.

BRIDESMAIDS ON A BUDGET

Budget and Research

As a bride, it’s natural to want your closest friends and family by your side throughout the wedding journey, but you’ll also want to consider their budgets and comfort.

Start by discussing potential costs with your bridesmaids upfront—this shows you’re mindful of their expenses and helps avoid awkward surprises.

Outline anticipated costs, like the hen night, transport, outfits, and gifts, and make it clear that you’re open to discussing what they’re comfortable spending.

Thoughtful Gifts

Remind your bridesmaids that the best gifts aren’t always the most extravagant.

A simple, meaningful gesture, like a thoughtful piece of jewellery or a handmade photo album, can be more special than anything pricey.

If your bridesmaids are on a budget, encourage them to consider something heartfelt—perhaps they could even pool together for one meaningful item from the gift list.

Group Travel Savings

If you’ll all be travelling for pre-wedding events or the wedding itself, suggest coordinating plans to cut down costs. Group discounts on flights and hotels can make a big difference, and shared travel is a great way to build excitement.

If some are road-tripping, a shared vehicle rental not only saves on fuel but keeps the bridal party together for added fun.

Shared Accommodation

Accommodations can quickly add up, so consider encouraging your bridesmaids to

Morilee’s bridesmaid gowns are designed to celebrate the unique style and personality of each bridal party member, offering a range of chic, contemporary, and classic options. Each gown is crafted from high-quality fabrics like chiffon, satin, and lace, chosen for both their luxurious feel and ability to complement various body shapes. This thoughtful design process allows Morilee to create dresses that look stunning on every figure, enhancing

share a room or suite where possible. This approach often lets them upgrade their stay while splitting costs, making for a more enjoyable experience without a big financial burden.

DIY Decorations and Favours

Save on wedding décor by hosting a crafting day with your bridesmaids. DIY favours, stationery, and small gifts can be made with budget-friendly materials and add a personal touch to the day.

Many resources online offer ideas for creating beautiful and affordable wedding decorations, and crafting can become a fun bonding experience.

the natural beauty of each bridesmaid. One of Morilee’s standout features is its rich selection of colours and styles, from soft blushes and greys to bold hues and jewel tones. Brides can select from flowing silhouettes, fitted bodices, and unique necklines to achieve a perfectly coordinated yet individualised look for their bridesmaids. These versatile designs are ideal for any venue or season, offering options for both formal and relaxed weddings alike.

Whether seeking a cohesive monochromatic look or a blend of styles, Morilee’s bridesmaid gowns make it easy to find the perfect match for any wedding aesthetic. With comfortable and flattering fits, Morilee ensures bridesmaids can celebrate from the ceremony to the dance floor with confidence and elegance. Discover their latest collection and envision your dream bridal party at www.morilee.com, where style meets timeless beauty.

Hair and Makeup Options

Professional styling is a lovely treat, but it’s not a must. If a bridesmaid would prefer to style herself, make sure she feels comfortable with that option. If you’re keen on a coordinated look, suggest makeup tutorials or share ideas to help them feel wedding-ready, while respecting their budget.

Flexible Dress Choices

Bridesmaid dresses are often a significant expense, but flexibility can go a long way. Look into dresses that your bridesmaids can wear again, or consider convertible dresses that allow for personalisation while keeping a unified style.

Renting or buying pre-loved gowns are also budget-friendly options. If they’ll need alterations, recommend a trusted tailor— often, this is more affordable than in-store options. After the wedding, let them know it’s perfectly fine to sell or donate the dress if it won’t be worn again.

Final Thoughts

The role of bridesmaid is both an honour and a commitment, so making the experience as enjoyable and manageable as possible shows your appreciation for their support. Encourage them to set their own boundaries and budgets from the start, and communicate openly. This way, everyone can focus on celebrating together without stress or strain.

Finding the Perfect Wedding Venue

Choosing the perfect wedding venue is one of the most exciting parts of planning your special day, but it can also be overwhelming. With so many options available, it’s important to consider the details that will make your venue the ideal fit for your celebration.

Start by thinking about your vision for the day. Do you dream of a grand country manor, a rustic barn, or a sleek city venue? Consider the atmosphere and style that best reflect you as a couple. Next, look at practicalities. Your guest list will help determine the size of the venue, and the location should be accessible for those attending. If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony, ensure the venue has backup options in case of weather changes.

Budget is another key factor. Many venues offer packages that include catering, décor, and even accommodation, so decide what’s most important to you and what you’re willing to compromise on. Lastly, think about the personal touches. Does the venue allow for customisation? Can you incorporate your own theme or special details to make the space truly yours?

STRING QUARTET

A string quartet can add an air of elegance and sophistication to your wedding day. With their beautiful harmonies and timeless repertoire, a string quartet creates the perfect atmosphere, whether during your ceremony, drinks reception, or dinner. If you're considering hiring one, here are some essential questions to ask:

Can you provide a list of pieces you commonly perform?

A string quartet typically has a varied repertoire—ask for a list of classical, contemporary, and popular pieces to see if they match your style.

Are you open to learning specific songs or pieces that are meaningful to us?

Most quartets are happy to accommodate requests. Ask if they’ll learn new pieces and whether there are any additional fees for this service.

Do you perform at different stages of the wedding day?

Clarify if they can provide music for the ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, and evening entertainment. Some quartets offer tailored packages for each part of the day.

Do you have Public Liability Insurance?

Verify they’re covered with insurance in case of accidents or issues at the venue.

These questions will help ensure that the string quartet you choose will add the perfect touch to your wedding, creating unforgettable musical moments throughout your day.

MAGICIAN

Why Hire a Wedding Magician?

If you’re looking to make your wedding unforgettable, a magician might be just the ticket. Not only do they entertain, but they’re also great for breaking the ice, helping guests who don’t know each other feel at ease.

We spoke with professional magician Guy Wade (guywade.com) to uncover everything you need to know about hiring one for your big day.

Tips for Choosing the Right Magician

“Don’t settle for the first magician you find,” Guy advises. “Every magician has their own style, so make sure they’ll blend well with your day and guests. Magic isn’t just about tricks – it’s about creating laughter and memories.”

He also highlights the importance of public liability insurance. “It’s a sign they take their work seriously.”

What Does a Magician Add?

According to Guy, the real magic is in the smiles and laughter they bring, making your wedding stand out. They’re perfect for filling quiet moments, such as during the drinks reception, the wedding breakfast, or the evening festivities.

Can You Meet the Magician First?

“I often meet couples at wedding fairs or invite them to see me perform,” says Guy. “It’s vital to connect beforehand to ensure I’m the right fit for your special day.” guywade.com

WEDDING SINGER

When considering an artist like Lauren Austin, wedding singer, for your wedding, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure she’s the perfect fit for your day. Here are some thoughtful questions you might ask:

Can you provide a list of your song repertoire?

Ask for a comprehensive list of songs she can perform, and see if they align with your musical tastes. You may also want to ask how flexible she is with custom requests.

Will you learn new songs if we have special requests?

Lauren offers to learn up to five songs free of charge, so inquire about how this process works and any additional fees for extra songs beyond the free five.

What are the options for different parts of the day (ceremony, reception, first dance, etc.)?

Understand the flexibility of her set list and how she can adapt to each part of your wedding, whether it's a quiet, intimate moment or a lively evening reception.

Do you perform with backing tracks, or do you offer live instrumentation (piano/guitar)?

Find out the setup options and whether she can accommodate your preferred style—whether you want full instrumental backing or just vocals.

It could help you get a comprehensive understanding of what Lauren offers and ensure her performance aligns with your wedding vision!

TOASTMASTER

When planning a wedding, having a Toastmaster can make all the difference in ensuring a smooth, enjoyable event. Here are some key questions to ask when choosing a Toastmaster: How do you tailor your announcements?

It’s important to know how they customise their speeches to reflect your style.

Can you share previous wedding experiences?

Ask for examples to gauge their expertise.

How do you manage timings? Ensuring the day runs on schedule is crucial.

What’s your collaboration process with vendors?

Smooth communication is essential for the day’s success. How do you handle unexpected delays?

A skilled Toastmaster should remain composed and problemsolve swiftly.

Do you offer speech coaching? If you need help with speeches, this is worth asking about.

What’s your experience with managing multicultural weddings? It’s important if you have diverse cultural traditions to include.

How do you keep guests engaged during quieter moments?

A Toastmaster’s ability to entertain throughout the day is key.

Choosing the right Toastmaster ensures your day unfolds seamlessly and your guests are entertained. Here’s a suggestion: www.righttoastmaster.co.uk

Top Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Cake: selecting the perfect wedding cake is one of the sweetest parts of planning your special day. Beyond the aesthetic, your cake serves as a centrepiece for the reception and a symbol of celebration. Here’s how to ensure your wedding cake is both beautiful and delicious:

1. Match the Cake to Your Style

Your cake should complement the theme and feel of your wedding. Whether it’s a timeless white tiered design, a whimsical naked cake, or a contemporary geometric masterpiece, discuss your vision with a skilled cake designer. Bring along inspiration, such as fabric swatches or mood boards, to guide their creativity.

2. Start Early

Popular cake makers book up quickly, especially during peak wedding season. Begin your search at least six months in advance to secure your preferred baker. This also leaves ample time for consultations, sketches, and tastings.

3. Think About Flavour

Gone are the days of plain fruit cake being the only option. From lemon and elderflower to chocolate ganache, the choices are endless. Opt for flavours you both love, and consider multiple tiers with different fillings to please all your guests.

4. Consider the Venue and Season

If you’re tying the knot outdoors in summer, delicate buttercream or ganache may not fare well in the heat. Speak to your baker about seasonal ingredients and designs that suit your venue and climate.

5. Budget Wisely

Wedding cakes vary widely in cost depending on size, design intricacy, and flavours. Be upfront about your budget so your designer can tailor the cake accordingly. Remember, a simple design can still look elegant and taste exquisite.

6. Portion Planning

Work with your baker to ensure the cake serves your guest list. A threetier cake generally feeds 75 to 100 people, but this can vary depending on slice size. If you have a large wedding, consider a cutting cake in the back to supplement the display cake.

7. Schedule a Tasting

Tasting sessions are a must! This is your chance to try various flavours, textures, and fillings. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or request tweaks to suit your preferences.

8. Focus on Presentation

The cake table is often a focal point. Discuss styling ideas with your florist or decorator, and consider adding a cake topper or personalised details for a unique touch.

9. Don’t Forget Logistics

Ensure someone is responsible for picking up or arranging delivery of the cake on the big day. Check that the venue has suitable storage, a stable table, and the proper tools for cutting and serving.

10. Trust Your Cake Maker

Finally, choose a cake designer whose portfolio you adore and who you feel confident working with. Their expertise will bring your vision to life while guiding you through practical considerations.

FLOWERS

PERFECT WEDDING FLOWERS

PLANNING A WEDDING MEANS MAKING COUNTLESS DECISIONS, AND CHOOSING THE RIGHT FLOWERS IS ONE OF THE MOST DELIGHTFUL.

Choosing seasonal flowers for your wedding ensures vibrant arrangements, fresh blooms, and a harmonious connection with nature. Here’s our guide to the best wedding flowers for spring and summer in the UK, ideal for crafting stunning bouquets and décor.

Autumn (September – November)

Autumn brings rich, warm tones and more textured foliage. Think dahlias in deep crimson, burnt orange, and plum, as well as berries, seed heads, and foliage in shades of copper and gold. Chrysanthemums and marigolds provide longevity and structure, while roses remain plentiful. Rustic elements like dried grasses or pampas add softness, perfect for a more natural, bohemian style.

Winter (December – February)

Winter weddings can be magical, with rich colour palettes and elegant evergreens. Amaryllis, hellebores (Christmas roses), anemones, and ranunculus all thrive in cooler months. Incorporate fragrant sprigs of rosemary or pine, plus seasonal berries for texture. White blooms, such as paperwhites or orchids, look striking against deep greenery, creating a crisp and classic winter aesthetic.

Spring (March – May)

Spring is a season of new beginnings, making it ideal for weddings. The choice of flowers is plentiful, with delicate textures and soft pastels. Popular picks include romantic ranunculus, anemones, tulips, and sweet peas, which bring fragrance as well as charm. Blossom branches, such as cherry or apple, add height and drama to arrangements, while peonies make their first fleeting appearance in May, offering lush, ruffled petals in soft blush and ivory tones.

Summer (June – August)

Summer offers the widest choice of wedding blooms. This is prime time for classic roses, hydrangeas, dahlias, and larkspur. Peonies continue into June, while sunflowers and cosmos add a cheerful, informal feel later in the season. English garden favourites like delphiniums and lavender work beautifully for country celebrations, and trailing greenery like eucalyptus or jasmine creates a relaxed, romantic look for arches and table garlands.

LIFE’S A PRETTY PICTURE

DISCOVER THE LATEST TRENDS IN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY ENSURING YOUR BIG DAY IS BEAUTIFULLY CAPTURED FROM EVERY ANGLE

Your wedding day is a tapestry of unforgettable moments — laughter, happy tears, and heartfelt hugs. Capturing these memories perfectly is crucial, and for 2025, wedding photography and videography trends offer endless inspiration. Here’s how to ensure your celebration is beautifully preserved.

Instant Highlights for Sharing

In our digital-first world, couples are loving the addition of a content creator to their wedding day team. Working alongside your photographer, they create spontaneous social media-ready clips, allowing you to relive and share highlights before the last guest leaves. It's an effortless way to add an extra layer of joy to your day.

However, your professional photographer and videographer remain essential for timeless storytelling. Together, they ensure every important moment is preserved with care.

Cinematic Videography

Traditional wedding videos are evolving into cinematic experiences. Creative storytelling through video has become a must-have, with drone footage, candid moments, and personalised narratives taking centre stage. Whether it’s a short film capturing the essence of the day or a feature-length masterpiece, these approaches bring your wedding memories to life. To find the perfect videographer, we recommend that you explore www.confetti.co.uk and book early to secure your ideal match. Skilled professionals often fill their calendars months in advance

Natural Beauty of Outdoor Weddings

Couples are increasingly choosing open-air venues, which offer a stunning canvas for photography. The golden hour—a time of soft, warm light shortly before sunset—is perfect for romantic portraits. If you’re planning an outdoor celebration, collaborate with your photographer to identify the best spots and prepare for weather contingencies.

Bespoke Photo Booths

Photo booths have become a creative staple, moving beyond standard designs to match the wedding’s theme. Imagine a whimsical floral installation or a sleek modern setup with digital sharing capabilities. These booths are not just about fun; they’re an opportunity to create unique keepsakes for you and your guests.

Interactive features like instant GIFs or animations add a playful element, while custom props ensure your booth complements your celebration perfectly.

Sustainable Memories

With sustainability in focus, couples are making eco-friendly choices for their wedding photography. Options such as digital albums and recycledmaterial prints allow you to enjoy your memories while caring for the planet. Look for photographers who prioritise sustainability or locally sourced materials.

Creative Displays

Budget-savvy couples are embracing DIY ideas for showcasing wedding memories. Photo trees, Polaroid boards, and live-stream displays at receptions are gaining popularity. These approaches allow you to relive the day’s highlights with your guests while keeping costs manageable.

For a modern twist, consider a digital slideshow projected during the evening reception. It’s an excellent way to ensure everyone gets a glimpse of the day’s best moments.

Final Tips for Capturing Your Day

Plan Ahead: Photographers and videographers are in high demand during spring. Secure your chosen professionals well in advance.

Communicate Your Vision: Share your preferences, whether you adore soft, airy styles or bold, dramatic compositions.

Trust Your Team: While a detailed shot list is helpful, allow room for spontaneity. Often, the most memorable photos are unplanned moments of pure joy.

With a little forethought and a touch of creativity your wedding will be immortalised beautifully. From traditional keepsakes to innovative trends, capturing your special day has never been more exciting. After all, these memories are yours to treasure forever.

To find your photographer, videographer or photo booth visit www.confetti.co.uk and search thousands of suppliers.

Many booths now include digital options, such as GIFs and instant sharing to social media, ensuring your celebrations go viral. A photo booth also doubles as a unique guestbook, with images saved for you to relive the laughter later.

PHOTOGRAPHY

TOP QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Choosing the right wedding photographer is crucial to capturing the memories of your big day. Here are the top 10 questions to ask your wedding photographer:

1. What is your photography style?

Ask whether they specialise in traditional, photojournalistic, artistic, or a mix of styles to ensure their approach matches your vision.

2. Have you worked at our venue before?

Familiarity with your venue can help the photographer anticipate great spots for photos and navigate potential challenges.

3. Can we see a full wedding gallery?

Reviewing a complete album gives insight into their consistency and ability to capture all aspects of the day, not just the highlights.

4. Do you have a plan for emergencies?

Ensure they have spare cameras, lenses, and contingency plans in case of technical issues or illness.

5. How many weddings do you shoot per year?

This will give you an idea of their experience level and whether they may be overbooked or too busy to give your day proper attention.

6. What packages do you offer, and what is included?

Clarify the number of hours, prints, albums, and post-production editing provided to avoid surprises later.

7. When will we receive our photos?

Ask about the timeline for getting your edited images and any additional services like a sneak peek of a few photos.

8. Will you be the one photographing our wedding?

Some studios have multiple photographers, so confirm who will attend and meet them beforehand to ensure compatibility.

9. Do you offer engagement sessions?

An engagement shoot is a great way to get comfortable with your photographer before the big day.

10. What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Understanding their policies on cancellations, deposits, and rescheduling protects you in case of unexpected changes.

Bonus Tip

Make sure to connect with the photographer personally—it’s essential to feel comfortable with them since they’ll be part of your most intimate moments on your wedding day.

Essential Tips for Planning a Dream Wedding in Cyprus...

n Pick the Perfect Month

The best months to get married in Cyprus are April, May, June, September, October, and November – when the weather is warm but not overwhelming. July and August are still options, but be prepared for the heat!

n Set a Realistic Budget

Establish your wedding budget early, and always include a contingency fund for any extras that you might want.

n Hire a Reputable Local Wedding Planner

Absolutely essential. A good planner is worth their weight in gold – they’ll make the process seamless and let you enjoy your celebration stressfree.

n Visit Beforehand, If Possible

Try to arrange a prewedding trip to visit venues. Most reputable planners will happily arrange free venue tours, typically showing you at least four different options to help you find the perfect match.

n Be BeachSavvy

Keep in mind that most beaches in Paphos are public. That means you may have onlookers! – and that you and your guests should wear flipflops or beachappropriate footwear.

n Arrive Early

If you're having a legal ceremony, both of you must arrive in Cyprus at least three working days before the wedding to complete the necessary paperwork. This is a legal requirement, not just a suggestion!

WHERE TO WED

Your Guide to Legal Wedding Venues in the UK

Planning a wedding is an exciting journey filled with choices, from selecting the perfect dress to finding the right flowers. But one of the most crucial decisions is where to say “I do.” While you may have a dream location in mind, not all places in the UK are legally approved for marriage ceremonies. Understanding the legalities can make a big difference when planning your special day, so let’s take a look at the types of venues available for your wedding and what you need to know to ensure everything is above board.

Civil Ceremonies

If you’re looking for a non-religious ceremony, a civil ceremony is the ideal option. The good news is that there are a variety of places across the UK where you can hold a civil wedding, but the rules differ slightly depending on the country.

England and Wales:

In England and Wales, you can legally wed at licensed locations, including register offices, town halls, hotels, country houses, barns, and even gardens, as long as the site holds an official marriage licence. Recently, regulations have been updated to allow for more flexibility, enabling couples to marry in any part of the venue’s grounds—without the need for a fixed structure like a gazebo or archway—provided the venue has local authority approval. This change has opened up many more picturesque options for those seeking outdoor ceremonies.

It’s important to remember that civil ceremonies cannot take place in any premises with religious connections, so you’ll need to choose a secular location. Once you have selected your venue, you must give notice of your intention to marry at your local register office. This notice period is typically 28 days, but if either of you is

subject to immigration control, this may extend up to 70 days. Fees for registrars vary, starting at around £46 for a simple ceremony at a register office and increasing depending on the venue and requirements.

Scotland:

Scotland offers significantly more freedom when it comes to wedding locations. Couples can legally marry almost anywhere, whether it’s on a beach, in a forest, or even on a mountaintop, provided the officiant conducting the ceremony is authorised. This relaxed approach makes Scotland a popular choice for couples looking to create a unique and memorable ceremony in an outdoor setting. However, you still need to complete the necessary paperwork, including submitting marriage notices to the local registrar at least 29 days before the ceremony date.

Northern Ireland:

In Northern Ireland, civil ceremonies must take place at a venue approved by the local council, such as a register office, hotel, or historic building. Outdoor ceremonies are possible, but less common, and the venue must be licensed accordingly. The process is similar to England and Wales, requiring at least 28 days’ notice and a booking with a registrar to officiate.

Religious Ceremonies

Religious ceremonies in the UK are governed by different rules, depending on the specific faith and location of the ceremony. Here’s what you need to know:

Anglican Church Weddings:

For couples wishing to marry in an Anglican church (the Church of England or the Church in Wales), the process is straightforward. If you or your partner are regular attendees, you may have the right to marry in that church without the need to give notice at a register office. Instead, the church will announce your intention to marry on three consecutive Sundays leading up to the wedding, a process known as “publishing the banns.” However, if neither of you are connected to the parish, you may need to establish a link by attending services regularly for a set period before the wedding day.

Same-sex marriages are not currently permitted in the Church of England, although civil partnerships are recognised.

Other Religious Ceremonies:

If you’re planning to marry in a religious building other than an Anglican church, such as a mosque, synagogue, or temple, you’ll need to check that the building is registered for marriage ceremonies. Additionally, you and your partner must give notice at a local register office at least 28 days before the ceremony. For some faiths, such as Judaism and the Quaker tradition, ceremonies can be legally recognised without the presence of a registrar. Same-sex marriages are allowed in religious buildings that have opted in, but this varies depending on the denomination.

Approved Premises for Weddings and Civil Partnerships

For couples seeking a modern or alternative setting, approved premises are a popular choice. These include a wide range of locations such as stately homes, castles, hotels, country clubs, and even some restaurants. To host a legally binding ceremony, a venue must meet specific licensing criteria, including adhering to safety and accessibility standards and providing an appropriate and dignified setting for a wedding.

The licensing process is thorough, and venues must apply for approval from the local authority, ensuring that the ceremony space is “fit for purpose.” These venues often book up quickly, especially during peak wedding season, so planning well in advance is recommended.

Outdoor and

Alternative Wedding Locations

With the increasing popularity of outdoor and alternative wedding venues, more couples are exploring unconventional locations like farms, woodlands, or private gardens. To marry legally in these settings, the site must be registered as an approved premise or hold a separate license. However, there is an alternative: you can legally marry in a register office and then hold a celebratory ceremony in an unlicensed location afterwards. This option allows couples to have a symbolic celebration in the

setting of their dreams, combining the formality of a legal ceremony with the beauty of a personalised, scenic celebration.

Destination Weddings and Marrying Abroad

If you’re considering a destination wedding, the rules and requirements differ significantly depending on the country. Popular wedding destinations like Italy, France, and Greece each have their own legal processes, and you may need to provide specific documents, such as birth certificates, proof of residence, and certificates of no impediment (confirming that you’re free to marry). It’s best to start planning early and consult the appropriate embassy or a specialised wedding planner who can guide you through the process.

Final Considerations

Whichever type of ceremony you choose, there are some consistent elements to remember:

Witnesses: You’ll need at least two witnesses at your wedding, who must sign the register or marriage certificate.

Notice Period: Most ceremonies require at least 28 days’ notice, with some exceptions.

Fees: Costs apply for giving notice and for the services of registrars or officiants.

Understanding the legal requirements and choosing a venue that suits your style and needs will help ensure that your wedding day is unique and meaningful. Whether you opt for a traditional church wedding, a modern civil ceremony, or an outdoor celebration, the choice is yours—just be sure to follow the rules to keep everything legally binding and stress-free.
