A D U LT I N G 101 CHECKLIST This handy checklist of typical adult tasks will help you determine how close you are to becoming a member of the A Team.

Do you cook for yourself? With food that you bought? With your own money? Do you clean up after yourself? Like, as a regular thing, not only when someone is threatening to throw your stuff out into the street? Do you do your own laundry? Before it gets crunchy? Do you have two sheets on your bed and two curtains in your shower? Do you pay for your housing? With money? That you made? Legally? Do you pay for your transportation? Not just the gas but the car payment and insurance, too? Is your rideshare account tied to your very own credit card, not a parent’s? Do you pay for your own cell phone plan? No one is interested in your argument about how keeping you on the family plan makes it cheaper. A simple yes or no will do, please. Do you know how to bank? And post office? Make your own doctor appointments and not hang up in a panic when they ask for your insurance information?

Unless you answered yes to all these questions you are not yet an adult. For more tips and tricks on how to show your parents you’re an adult instead of just telling them, order a copy of Just Don’t Be An Assh*le, and join the conversation online by following Kara Kinney Cartwright on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram @dbakarakc and using the hashtag #JustDont.
