Wave Form

The site sits out on a peninsula on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, giving a northeastern wind to work with. I wanted to capture this beautiful site, first with its north-eastern winds to ventilate, and secondly, to capture the gorgeous views over the Pacific Ocean.

The wave formed roof is a paneled system with louvers on top of the panels. This system incorporates a mixture of open panels to allow the weather in, and glass-framed panels to keep foul weather out. This also allowed the floor plan grid to take shape along these panels.

Finally, the wave formed, louvered roof opens up the entire design to Hawaii’s perfect gentle breezes or “Kaiaulu”, which in Hawaiian means both “gentle breeze” and “community”.

8 Week Project - Fall 2021 Rhino

This project had us design the first fully staffed fire station in Wamega, KS. This program has 4 core spaces: The public gathering space, the working/apparatus space, the living space, and a community garden space.

The road to the north of the site connections Wamego’s downtown to the city park, thus the public bar and entry runs directly along this route. The garden space also runs along this path between the public space and apparatus.

This is intended to create an open and green environment for the community to use and meet the firemen working hard to keep them safe.

The apparatus is on the south side of the site to separate the engines from the public spaces.

Lastly, the living quarters sits on top of all 3 of the other spaces to both connect the firefighters from their work to the public, but also to separate them and create a private environment. This living bar is also angled to face directly into City Park to the Northeast to give the firemen the best view in Wamego.

Hidden Jewel

4 Week Project - Spring 2022 Rhino

This project is an adaptive- reuse project of a jewelry store and it is being reused as a theatre space and art gallery.

The design reuses the entire first floor and unique spiral staircase of the jewelry store, while also expanding the same theme into the other half of the first floor cafe space. The second and third floor are entirely theatre based with rehearsal and changing rooms on the third floor that overlook the theater. These two floors are meant to look and act like a hidden “jewel” to embody the history of the jewelry store there before which you can see in the rendering to the left.

The west side of the site opens up to a park, which the design engages via the lofted glass theatre box or “jewel”.

Lastly, there is an extended glass screen wrapped around the lofted theatre space for both acoustics and dispersing direct sunlight for the theatre and art gallery.

Egyptologist Study House 4 Week Project- Fall 2020 Hand Drawn

In this design, I carved away from 2 large limestone blocks, emphasized by the poche, to create a private study and artifact room for an Egyptologist. The site is on the bank of the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee.

Given this naturally subtractive project, I decided to use pyramidal forms to create and expand spaces within the limestone and around the site to emulate ancient Egyptian architecture. The study is carved out to the east with a clear view over the Mississippi River and the artifact room is carved facing the private garden space to the west.

Overall, this design contains a study, kitchenette, artifact gallery, and bathroom.

Early Education Co-Op with HASTINGS Architecture Revit

During my Co-Op with Hastings I was able to start on this early education building in the conceptual design phase and work all the way through CD submittal. Through SD on this project, a 2022 graduate student, Katie Schultz, and I developed the exterior facade and tower through multiple iterations for the client, as well as programming the interior layout for a Pre-K, Kindergarten, Admissions, and Pursuit/after school program.

As CDs developed, I continued to work under a project architect, Nathan Buck, who had designed multiple school buildings, and we re-iterated the building footprint for FAR studies, as well as further developed the details and patterns within the facade. At 50% DDs, I got to work within the interiors of the building to develop the grand staircase, front reception space, and different ceiling options. I also got the privilege of developing the interior courtyard for renders and rendering the project for all client meetings and drawing sets. I am currently working through CDs with Mary Margaret Comegna and Nathan Buck part-time while finishing grad school to create the final product.
