Staff enjoys education and fun at first Skills Fair Wichita Presbyterian Manor hosted its first Skills Fair in May as a daylong event for staff that covered a variety of topics relevant for employees working in health care. There were eight booths that covered the topics of transfers, care planning, wandering/elopement, peri-care/cath-care and infection control/handwashing that staff rotated through during the fair. “We also had help from the Kansas Foundation for Medical Care, KFMC, which facilitated booths on root cause analysis and dementia,” said Jennie Johnson, RN, the health services director at Wichita Presbyterian Manor who helped facilitate the event. All clinical employees who work in health care were required to visit each booth. SKILLS, continued on page 2

The Phelans visited Italy and France to experience the art and eat wonderful food at scenic locations.

The Phelans rack up the miles and passport stamps “Dan had more of the travel bug than I did originally, but I was infected pretty quick,” said Mary Phelan, Wichita Presbyterian Manor resident. It all started with the couple’s first trip together to Europe. They spent three weeks visiting England, France and Italy. Dan would plan out every detail of their trips, and then rent a car and drive them around the country. “After we got some place, we’d see where we wanted to go, and if there was a local tour group, we went with them. Mostly we traveled on our own since it was so much easier to come and go as we wanted.” Over the years, Mary and Dan collected stamps in their passports from Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Holland, France (twice), Turkey, China, the Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Hungary, Lithuania, Portugal, Morocco and Finland.
