Wichita Presbyterian Manor celebrates 50 years of serving seniors
As a floor nurse at Wesley Medical Center, she attended to pediatric patients and women with high-risk pregnancies. She has also served as a community health nurse and case manager for pediatric, young adult and elderly patients. In addition to direct care, Sharon once owned and operated a nonemergency medical transportation company. Sharon Muchina, RN Sharon moved to the U.S. from Nairobi, Kenya, 21 years ago. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Newman University. “I chose nursing because it is an interesting and growing career field that offers anyone the opportunity to work in various health care settings,” Sharon said. She enjoys her work at Wichita Presbyterian Manor in part because she knows the care she provides is appreciated by both residents and their families. “As a nurse I enjoy providing care to the residents,” she said. “I also know that what I am doing is helping their families not to worry about their loved ones doing the things they can no longer do for themselves.” NURSE – continued on page 4
In 1970, Wichita Presbyterian Manor opened its doors. For the first few years, the community only had the capacity for 24 residents. Before the decade was up, Presbyterian Manor added 60 senior living apartments. A series of expansions in the 1980s enabled the organization to serve the needs of hundreds of seniors at multiple levels of care. To celebrate our 50th anniversary, residents are invited to several events that will take place July through September. 50 YEARS - continued on page 2
