Nurses adapt to COVID with compassion and teamwork Holly Statler and Christina Armour began working at Rolla Presbyterian Manor during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The main focus was protection from the spread of the virus,” said Holly, the minimum data set coordinator and assistant director of nursing. Staff worked together to set up COVID wings. Designated for residents who tested positive, COVID wings ensured that residents received quality care in isolation from the rest of the community. The staff also focused on residents’ emotional needs. “Nurses increased our listening, we increased one-on-one time, because Nurses – continued on page 2
So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day (Joshua 10:13b, KJV). Like every month, June has special days. Some are silly, but a few are important. June 6 is D-Day. June 14 is Flag Day. The summer solstice will mark the beginning of summer at 10:31 p.m. on Father’s Day, June 20. The length of that day will be 14 hours, 48 minutes and 43 seconds in the Midwestern United States. If you choose, each day can become your personal special day. Make each day special. As Joshua led Israel against the enemy, he needed more time. God granted enough daylight to win the victory. That day became a day to remember. We do not need a major miracle to make a day special. For many, just waking up makes the day important. Getting a long-overdue project completed can mark a day as memorable. Find a reason to laugh. A merry heart doeth good like a medicine (Proverbs 17:22a, KJV). Life can sometimes be challenging. People can easily let too much dignity root out pleasure. Taking the time to laugh at the antics of a child or at the irony of a situation can lift your spirits and brighten the day or even a whole week.
