God will always be there for you

“Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn;” (Hosea 6:3a, ESV) This February is a month of variety.

It begins with Groundhog Day. Next, comes the Super Bowl, followed by Valentine’s Day. After passing through Presidents Day, the month concludes with Mardi Gras on Fat Tuesday. On top of all of these, many will be trying to sort out the coming changes due to the inauguration of a new president in January.With spring just around the corner, all of this change might be daunting to some.

In the middle of change, it is reassuring to know the one that does not change.

Love for all ages February is the month of love, and we’re looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day! One of our favorite traditions is a visit from the students at the nearby First Presbyterian Preschool. Make plans to attend their Valentine program at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, and celebrate this sweet holiday with our little neighbors.

We’re thrilled to have an ongoing relationship with the preschool so that our residents can experience the many benefits of spending time with young children. Did you know that interactions between the generations are good for everyone concerned? Here are just a few examples: LOVE, continued on page 2

Our annual Valentine’s Day party will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13. Singer Ken Roberts will perform some of our favorite long songs.

We will crown a Valentine’s king and queen and enjoy some fun love-themed games and activities.

- Older adults who regularly volunteer with children show measurable improvements to their health, according to a 2004 study by researchers at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. The group they studied burned 20 percent more calories per week, had fewer falls, did not rely as much on canes, and performed better on a memory test than their peers.

- The same study discovered that children’s reading scores improved in schools with the older adult volunteers.

- More recently, research published in the journal of the North

American Menopause Society found that grandmothers who took care of their grandchildren once a week scored higher on cognitive tests compared to older women who did not.

Extended families tend to live farther apart these days. So it’s more important than ever to find ways to bring the youngest and oldest of our society together. The famed anthropologist Margaret Mead knew this decades ago. “Somehow we have to get older people back close to growing children if we are to restore a sense of community, a knowledge of the past, and a sense of the future,” Mead said.

Senior artists invited to enter Art is Ageless® exhibit Since the beginning of time, creative expression has brought joy to both its creators and those who experience their art.The Art is Ageless program offers senior artists the opportunity to share and display their artwork and reaffirms the agelessness of human creativity.

Rolla Presbyterian Manor is accepting entries for the 2017 Art is Ageless competition and exhibit now through March 15. Artists may submit works either for the juried competition or for display only. Artwork will be on display March 20-23 in our Community Room. A reception with the artists will

“Press on to know the Lord;” implies that we should elevate our relationship with God above everything else.

Matthew 6:33 says it more directly: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”(KJV) Along the same lines we hear people say: “Keep the main thing the main thing.”

God will still be there when the big days are behind us.

Whether it’s the kickoff for the big game or the beads of Mardi Gras, you can get caught up with the hoopla leading up to the event and suffer a letdown when it is over.The prophet reminds us that God’s presence “is as sure as the dawn.”

You can enjoy His presence today, look forward to it tomorrow, and still have it on the day after. God tells us, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5b, NIV). If you will let Him, the same God will stay by your side throughout your life from the beginning until the end.

When the Chill of Winter Comes In February, winter’s chill can fill a heart with frost; It’s easy to forget that spring will come; all is not lost.

Stand strong with the Lord. Let His Spirit make your heart grow warm; He will reach out to where you are by stretching forth His arm.

His ear your cry will surely hear; His voice will bring you peace.

Though winter’s icy wind blows dark, His presence will not cease.
