The Hope of Easter

April 2020

We often think of Easter as a time of hope. Jesus is alive! Death is defeated. He is RISEN!! But how do we live a life of joy and hope when our world is turned upside down, and we’re uncertain what tomorrow will hold?

Charge nurse does lots of ‘follow-up and follow-through’

The Bible tells us in Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

“I’m a patient advocate for sure,” said Allison King, charge nurse for Parsons Presbyterian Manor. “I like helping people feel better, and I always want what’s best for them.”

It seems the first step for finding hope this Easter season is to stop and reflect on the love that is being offered to us every second of our lives. Jesus is with us, even when our loved ones can’t be. Jesus sees and knows our struggles and fears, and He walks with us through them.

Her desire to better the lives of others inspired Allison to choose nursing as a career. She began as a certified medication assistant at Presbyterian Manor while she advanced her education at Labette Community College. Allison worked on an as-needed basis as a licensed practical nurse, then accepted a fulltime position once she earned the Allison King designation of registered nurse. She has worked for Presbyterian Manor for more than a decade. Allison’s favorite aspect of her job is interacting with both the residents and her coworkers. “We have a good team here, and because of that, communication between staff and residents works well,” she said. As the charge nurse, Allison plays a critical role in ensuring that resident care plans are followed. She spends a lot of time talking to doctors and family members in order to assure continuity of care.

Matthew 28:6 says, “He is not here; He has risen, just as he said…” What life-changing, miraculous words! The grave could not hold Him. His LOVE overcame death. He rose again, victorious! And He loves and sees you, right where you are. And He is with you. Our Easter celebrations may look a little different this year, but take heart friends, our God is the same EASTER – continued on page 4

“It’s a lot of follow-up and follow-through,” Allison said. She also approaches end-of-life situations with a sense of great responsibility. “I want to know I’m making someone as comfortable as possible before they transition to the afterlife,” she said. In order to make the right decisions, she had to learn to remove her emotions from the situation and process them later. Outside of work, Allison keeps busy with her daughters Linnea, 12, and Elianah, 5.
