The light By Jerroll Martens, chaplain Newton Presbyterian Manor
“The Lamb is the light thereof.” (Rev 21:23) The scene in this scripture is in heaven, where there is no need for the sun or moon. Christ is the “light thereof.” Light reminds us of joy. A cheerful person is like a light spreading its beam. The joy of saints in heaven will be that Christ loved them, bought them, cleansed and fitted them for that wonderful place. Light also speaks of knowledge. We speak of the “age of enlightenment.” In the presence of Christ, the things that puzzled us will be known to us. Light also manifests. Things not seen in the dark are seen clearly in the light. The believer is not now what he will be, for when we see Him, we shall be like Him, clearly manifesting His righteousness given to us. Believers also are spoken of as “children of light” who should walk in His ways. Light dispels darkness, so needed in a dark world of evil. Jesus spoke of Himself as the light of the world and His children as the reflectors of that light. Thank God for a prepared place of perfect light and for the light He now gives us on our pilgrimage.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s team from 2015.
Join us: Walk to End Alzheimer’s Join a team of staff, residents and family members as they participate in a walk to end Alzheimer’s Disease on October 13 in Wichita. The two-mile walk starts at 11 a.m. (with registration opening at 8 a.m. and a ceremony at 10 a.m.) at Intrust Bank Arena in downtown Wichita. Anyone can sign up to walk, and there is no registration fee. However participants are encouraged to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. This is the eighth year that Activity Director Melinda Ebersole has coordinated a team from the community, and while the reason behind the event is somber, she finds the walk itself to be both uplifting and inspiring. “I just love seeing the different families and the kids that are involved,” said Melinda. “It’s a very sad disease, but that day brings out how much support and love is there for the families and caretakers that go through this.” WALK, continued on page 2
