“Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sin.” Psalm 25:18 The term referring to affliction occurs nearly 200 times in the Bible. This refers to any kind of concern that weighs on a person, such as loss of health, life, freedom or job. It includes mental anguish over our situation or when those close to us are our affliction. Many references to this occur with the idea that God sees our needs. God saw the affliction of his people in Egypt and heard their cry. In his mercy, he liberated them. Hence, many references also appear, asking God to “look” upon our need. The request is asking God to “look” with favor, and letting a merciful and loving God do as he sees best. Notice the right attitude of the Psalmist. He asks God to “look” on his affliction and pain, and do what pleases Him. With his sin, the Psalmist is definite—“forgive my sin.” With the latter, he implies that his sin is the most important and that God will indeed answer it. He has full faith that God can—and will—forgive him. CHAPLAIN, continued on page 2

Apple Blossom Festival 2018 premier sponsors The Newton Presbyterian Manor Apple Blossom Festival wouldn’t be possible without our premier sponsors taking the lead to make the annual event a success. Thank you to these friends in our community! First Presbyterian Church First Presbyterian Church’s connection to Presbyterian Manor goes all the way back to the beginning. At the time Newton Presbyterian Manor was founded, Dr. George Nelson pastored First Presbyterian Church. He subsequently became Presbyterian Manor’s first executive director when the campus opened in 1949. Dozens of volunteers from the church help make the Apple Blossom Festival happen each year by serving food, bringing baked goods, and grilling hot dogs and hamburgers. This year, First Presbyterian Church hosted an information booth at the festival, sharing information about the church and its vision, “connecting with God and connecting with people.” Pastor Scott McGinnis, his wife, Sonday, and their three children joined the congregation last September. Heart and Soul Hospice Heart & Soul Hospice is an extension of PMMA’s services to seniors in Kansas.
