Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America’s Founder’s Day celebrates 70 years of service to seniors Employees and residents of Newton Presbyterian Manor observed the founding of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America in April as we celebrated 70 years of providing quality senior services guided by Christian values. Each Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America campus had its own celebration with residents and employees during April, acknowledging the importance each play in making life at Presbyterian Manor the way you want to live. “Many of our more than 2,000 employees view what they do as a calling, not just a job,” said Bruce Shogren, president and CEO. “Our dedicated employees make This year’s Promise Board. it possible for us to sustain PMMA’s mission, which directly impacts the wonderful care our 2,400 residents receive every day.” Newton Presbyterian Manor employees observed Founder’s Day with a lunch catered by Genova Italian Restaurant with a celebration cake, t-shirts and signatures on the 2019 Promise Board. Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America’s roots go back to 1947. Alice Kalb, a widow from central Kansas, appealed to a Presbyterian Church organization to establish a home for seniors. Her vision laid the foundation for the first Presbyterian Manor community in Newton, -Founder’s, continued on page 2
Kay Orr, Eleanore Myers, Carolyn Adams, Carol Schrag, June Thomsen and Betty Harder met at the morning coffee time to share their memories of significant historical events and where they were at the time. All remarked that they can remember the exact spot, the exact moment that they heard the news of these events.
The Space Shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986. “I Love Lucy” premiered on TV in 1951. September 11, 2001. We’ve all experienced significant historical events in our lifetime— some leave a lasting impression that allows us to recall exactly where we were when we first heard the news.
