Chaplain’s corner:
All the glory goes to God By Jerroll Martens, chaplain Newton Presbyterian Manor
“…whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31) This verse reminds us that our Christianity should impact all we do, and should do so seven days a week. Christ should be honored every day by our lives, not just on Sundays. First, life is to be lived for the honor and glory of God, and should not be self-centered. The natural tendency is to think of one’s self first and to act accordingly. The Christian should have a God-focus, not a focus on self. Loving and serving God should have priority. This verse also reminds us that the daily chores of life can bring glory to God. The factory worker, the custodian, the housewife with children and the company president can—and should—do their work to honor God and serve others. God ordained work and we should do it for his glory.

Dannica’s mission? Taking work to the next level When she started at Newton Presbyterian Manor eight years ago, Dannica Avendano was a CNA just out of school. Since then, she’s received at least two scholarships from Presbyterian Manor for continuing her education, and accolades for her work at the community. “I received a scholarship when I went back to school for my LPN and then again when I went through school to complete the prerequisites for the RN program,” Dannica said. Dannica has applied for the RN program at Hutchinson Community College and another scholarship from Presbyterian Manor. Recipients will be announced soon. “I don’t want to say I’m stuck right now, but I feel as if it’s time for me to take the next step in my career and advance myself. I know what I’m capable of, and I feel like I’m capable of more,” said Dannica.
Congratulations to Dannica Avendano, “Nurse of the Year,” who received the award from her peers during Nurses Week in June.
