It’s all in a day’s work The Saturday before Easter of this year, Linda Horton fell at her home in Dodge City and broke her back.

“The doctor glued me back together, Linda Horton but he must have made a mistake and used crazy glue because I’ve been nuts ever since,” said Linda.

Manor of the Plains is home, sweet home

To recover, Linda was taken to Manor of the Plains where she stayed for three weeks.

“I enjoyed every day I was there,” said Linda. “The people and the aides were always very polite and kind. They would do anything to make me more comfortable.”

It’s not just a job; it’s a career. I had no idea eight years ago that I would be working at a senior living community. I had been down with a staph infection for several months and saw the ad in the local newspaper. Long story short, I have been here seven-plus years.

But more than just healing her body, Linda also found her soul was enlightened because of a friendship she developed with Manor of the Plains Marketing Director Kurt Lampe.

I love coming to work!

Every day is a new day. Someone always has something that they are working through and they just need a little help. I am always happy to assist—the people are what make my job.

I have a very large family here.Yes, I call them all family, because they are my family, and I care for them as much as they care for me. My wife always makes the comment that I have over 80 girlfriends. The bonus is HOME, continued on page 2

she is absolutely OK with it. Nadine Lampe, my wife of 31 years, has always encouraged me at whatever I do. Now, she feels that I have found my perfect calling.

I have been involved with residents in nearly every scenario, from taking someone to Hobby Lobby to attending a funeral, and everything in between.

The best part of my career is the appreciation I receive from the residents. They are the reason that I come to work every day.

It’s not always easy. I do get attached to the residents, but I have been involved in some of the most rewarding experiences during their passing. I actually become one of the family, and I am there for them through the complete process.

I lost one of my great friends last September, and have been grieving ever since. When I would come in on Monday mornings, she would be there in the lobby to greet me with a big smile, saying, “I knew you would be back.”

She always said, “Weekends are the longest because you are gone.” I always reassured her that she was always in my heart, and I was only a phone call away.

Presbyterian Manor is my life. I know that we cannot always meet everyone’s needs—some need more specialized care or services that we do not provide. However, they can be assured of one thing: I will try to make it work with every single one of the seniors who inquire at Presbyterian Manor.

Manor of the Plains is my home!

“He walked in one day and told me what his position was. We just hit it off. His personality is golden. He’s a Christian, he loves his family and he loves dogs,” said Linda.

For Kurt, meeting Linda was just one of the things he loves about his job.

“Linda was a ray of sunshine and when we started talking about dogs, I knew we’d be friends for life,” he said.

Linda is now home and going to physical therapy, but she and Kurt continue to stay in touch.

In fact, Linda recently shared her experience at Manor of the Plains on Instagram, saying that Kurt was “God’s welcoming committee!”

“Linda is a sweetheart and I’m truly lucky that meeting her was all in a day’s work,” said Kurt.

Thank you for the memories Sometimes being the marketing director means wearing a lot of hats, including that of transportation director. This thank you letter was sent to Marketing Director Kurt Lampe from the Naab family after the passing of their loved one, Rita.

“I drove Rita, her two daughters and a caregiver to Hays for a doctor appointment.

During our visit, we went out to eat and then drove to Rita’s hometown of Spearville.

We even drove through the drive-thru of the bank Rita had worked at for many years.

We had the best time. We didn’t get back to the Manor until after 8,” Kurt said.
