Emporia on best nursing home list Emporia Presbyterian Manor is on the U.S. News and World Report Best Nursing Homes 2016-17 list. The senior living community received the highest score of a fivestar rating system to make the list, available at www.usnews.com/ nursinghomes. The U.S. News and World Report list uses information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the government agency that sets and enforces standards for nursing homes. Environmental services team deserves kudos Our environmental services team has been hard at work over the past year making many improvements to Emporia Presbyterian Manor. We want to highlight and appreciate the ways they make our community clean, comfortable and up-to-date. About 20 staff members work in the department, which includes housekeeping, laundry and maintenance. They are led by Claude Williamson, director of environmental services, who does an excellent job of leading his team to ensure the residents’ wants and needs are satisfied. In 2016 we brought several tasks in-house instead of using contractors. Now, all renovations are done by our own qualified maintenance staff, with the exception of laying new carpet, and we do our own groundskeeping. We install cupboards, counter tops, patio doors, lighting and laminate flooring, scrape popcorn ceilings and much more. Under Claude’s leadership, our maintenance team is able to juggle a large workload, including upgrading common areas such as hallways, our Atrium, meeting rooms and our healthcare dining room. They also keep up with maintenance requests from residents and renovate apartments. Sharon Schmidt, our housekeeping services supervisor, also takes care KUDOS, continued on page 2
