Local artist to be featured among Art is Ageless® masterpiece level winners Rolla Presbyterian Manor announces a winning artist in the annual Art is Ageless® juried competition will be featured in the 2021 Art is Ageless calendar produced by PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America).

“Panama 1,” a painting entry by Ellen Reynolds, will appear in the 40th anniversary calendar when it is released this fall. “Hummingbirds Feeding,” a needlework entry by Linda McCoy, will be featured on the pull-out postcards in the 2021 calendar.

In addition, “Beauty for Ashes,” a mixed media/crafts entry by Sophia deLaat, “Makarios,” a painting by Sandra Ford, and “Wild Sunflower,” a drawing by

COVID-19 updates continue As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, you can count on regular communication from your PMMA community and PMMA leadership. PMMA’s President and CEO Bruce Shogren’s latest letter to residents and families are posted to your community website, Rolla PresbyterianManor.org/ covid-19. If there is a COVID-19 outbreak (positive COVID-19 test) at your community, your leadership team will contact employees, residents and their designated family representatives via telephone, email or mail with information about the outbreak and the recommendations of the local health department. u

Works by local winners are automatically entered into a masterpiece level competition with winning art from 15 other PMMA communities. More than 160 entries were received for this year’s masterpiece competition. The winners are featured in the Art is Ageless calendar with pull-out postcards and greeting cards.

“I’m so impressed by the level of

talent these artists demonstrated,” said Joelle Freeland, marketing director for Rolla Presbyterian Manor. “I think people will really enjoy next year’s calendar.”

Art is Ageless, open exclusively to people age 65 and older, is a copyrighted program of PMMA. For the competition, works must have been completed in the past five years.

Started in 1980, Art is Ageless is an extension of PMMA’s wellness programs, which focus on mental,

physical, social and spiritual health.

The program encourages Rolla Presbyterian Manor residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through its annual competition, as well as art classes, educational opportunities and current events discussions throughout the year.

Back-to-school drive benefits Presbyterian Manor staff with school-aged children Carmen Payne understands that back-to-school shopping can be a financial burden for parents.

That’s what gave her the idea to organize a back-to-school drive for staff with school-aged children.

Rolla Presbyterian Manor’s dining services director is also a grandmother, and she has seen school supply lists grow longer and longer over the years.

For the second year in a row, the Presbyterian Manor leadership team has purchased items on back-toschool lists using their personal funds. The goods are set up so that employees can pick out what their children need at no cost to them.

“Back to school isn’t like when my kids were young and the school supplied everything,” Carmen said.

“Now parents have to buy hundreds of dollars of stuff to send their kids back to school.”

Carmen says this can be a real burden for parents who work for an hourly wage, which includes many Presbyterian Manor employees.

“When I brought it up, the leadership team was all about it,” Carmen said. “We want to help.”

Last year, 20 employees benefitted from the program, and this year the initiative served 16.

“I have an employee who has six children, and four of them are in

school,” Carmen said. “She works as a dining services assistant, so she’s not making a fortune. We figure it helps that she didn’t have to buy pencils, crayons, markers and notebooks for her children to go back to school.”

Carmen said the response from employees has been overwhelmingly positive. She even received a thankyou from the daughter of a staff member.

“It’s a rough time right now, and we wanted our staff to know that we appreciate them and we want to help them however we can,” Carmen said.

“And it makes us feel good. It’s a blessing to be able to bless other people.” u
