Demonstrating dementia PMMA unveils new logo, brand identity As an organization evolves and grows, so should brand awareness. In the past year, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America has embarked on a journey to create a brand image that could represent all its communities and provide greater brand awareness for the entire PMMA system.

The new mark had to reflect PMMA’s Presbyterian Manors Of core values, mission Mid-America and beliefs. It needed to be simple but sophisticated enough to convey the high quality of care and service found in PMMA communities. It also needed to be practical and demonstrate reliability and integrity.

At its board meeting March 5, the PMMA Board of Trustees approved a new logo set for the PMMA system.

The new logo captures the spirit of our heritage and commitment to the future. The simplicity of the mark pays tribute A PMMA COMMUNITY to the original request from Alice Kalb to the Presbyterian Church. The upward “V” elements serve to remind us that our core purpose is to provide compassionate and caring services to better the lives of seniors.

It’s one thing to know someone with dementia, and it’s another to be their caretaker. You can study and read resources, but you can’t really know what it’s like to be in their shoes. Now, thanks to Kindred Hospice, you can get a better sense of how disorienting the condition can be, and how you can help those who suffer from it.

Join us for the “Dementia Virtual Tours” at our Just Ask event from 2 – 4 p.m. May 21. Please RSVP to Sloan at 620-421-1450 by May 10.

Participants will wear special glasses and headphones as the “virtual” tour is demonstrated and learn what life is like for residents with dementia. There will be snacks and appetizers for those who attend. u

empowers residents to remain healthy, active and engaged. It also underscores respect and understanding that seniors, as citizens and individuals, retain their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The logo has three different diamond colors, utilizing colors from the previous PMMA logos. The diamond elements sit atop the “V” elements to signify the core purpose of our organization. The PMMA gold diamond relates to the Presbyterian Manor gold standard for providing quality senior services; the purple diamond refers to the faith-based mission that is fulfilled daily by the staff members at each PMMA community; the Aberdeen green diamond refers to the commitment to healthy living through the intentional balance of physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual components of wellness.

Over the next several months, you will begin to see the new logos in our communications, advertising and signage. The art of giving back Her father always wanted her to be a nurse, but Jeannette Parsons found a way to pursue her passion while still helping others.

“I’ve been teaching art for 32 years, and often do classes with children or seniors. I love giving back to others through art,” Jeannette said. “I live in Lee’s Summit, Mo., now, but Parsons is my hometown. Whenever I come back, I like to visit Parsons Presbyterian Manor, and it was a joy to bring my art class to the residents.”

Jeanette not only has a love for Presbyterian Manor because it’s in her hometown but because it was her parents’ home for many years.

“My parents, George and Vera Mattox, lived at Presbyterian Manor for many years. My mother passed away 14 years ago, and my dad two years ago. But I got attached to other residents and the staff, and I always enjoy my visits.”

During one recent visit, Jeanette hosted an art class with a purpose.

She and a group of residents created two paintings, which will be sold to the highest bidder at the upcoming Good Samaritan Art Auction.

Presbyterian Manor’s Good Samaritan Program benefits residents who have outlived their resources.

“We really had a great time creating these pieces, titled ‘Tree of Life.’ They can be sold separately or go together.

I’m not sure which way they’ll do it yet. But either way, these pieces were created with love. In fact, the

residents enjoyed doing it so much, I’m going to return to help them create a piece they can leave on display at the Presbyterian Manor.”
