Meet your neighbor:

Marjory “JoAnne” Mock

JoAnne Mock is one of the newest independent living residents at Manor of the Plains, however she is not entirely new to the community—her husband was previously a resident in health care. JoAnne grew up on a farm with five older brothers. After they graduated, her father would allow her to drive the five miles to Burrton, Kan. Another nearby town, Haven, had bus service and she rode the bus to Haven High School. It was there that one day the principal called her into his office. “I was so frightened,” said Plains. JoAnne. “However, he was calling me in to tell me that Hutchinson Junior College was offering me a full scholarship. I was so happy and excited to go to college.”

While at college, a friend of JoAnne’s was interested in a boy named Bruce, but she was just too tall for him so instead, she would talk about JoAnne to Bruce and then talk to Bruce about JoAnne. “Bruce asked to take me home after the basketball game and that was it,”

I can’t help but share this beautiful song with you as my thoughts are wrapped around 4th of July as I Dinah Dutta write my love note to all of you: The patriotic song, “America the Beautiful.” In spite of all the chaos, hatred, fear, and much more, I want to sing this song with all my heart. Each word reminds me how privileged and blessed I am to live in this great country. Please join me in singing: O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea! O beautiful for pilgrim feet Whose stern impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat
