Environmental Services appreciation:

Nickolas Delcour Groundskeeper willing to go the extra mile for staff, residents Nickolas Delcour has only worked at Parsons Presbyterian Manor for about six months, but he already has a reputation for excellence. “He’s a newer employee who goes above and beyond,” said Sloan Dwyer, marketing director. On most days, unless it’s raining, you’ll find Nickolas mowing, tending to plants or repairing anything that’s not working outdoors. Those duties are part of his role as groundskeeper in the Environmental Services department, but he also lends a hand wherever or whenever it’s needed.

When you are contacted to participate in the survey, they will always identify themselves specifically as being with Pinnacle Quality Insight. All state and federal confidentiality laws are met in Pinnacle’s service.

“I just try to do anything I can to help,” Nickolas said. “If anything maintenance-wise needs attention, I’ll come in and help fix it.” He doesn’t consider it a chore, because he likes helping others. He also likes working outdoors, meeting new people and learning new skills. That’s all fulfilled through working at Presbyterian Manor. Residents often help him water and plant flowers. They also give him useful advice.

In Presbyterian Manor’s ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction, we have partnered with Pinnacle Quality Insight. This company will periodically contact the people we serve via telephone to conduct an interview regarding their impression of our service. We use this feedback as a tool to continually improve our quality of care and enhance our relationships.

From these surveys we know 95 percent of our residents would recommend our community to others.

We greatly value your opinions and encourage you to be frank and honest when contacted. Thank you in advance for your participation. u

A Dr. Seuss celebration Nursing Home Week was filled with special, fun activities based on beloved children’s books. National Nursing Home Week is a time for staff and residents of senior care communities to come together and celebrate all the good work being done to improve the lives of our elders. This year, Nursing Home Week was May 12-18, and Parsons Presbyterian Manor built all of its activities around the theme of “Dr. Seuss.” Life Enrichment Director Jasmine Edie said staff and residents had a blast dressing up, playing games and enjoying the special events designed to bring everyone together in an atmosphere of fun and celebration.

Staff, with residents Ralph and Betty Heady, dressed up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.

Activities were based off different Dr. Seuss books and included adding fun games to the daily morning exercise session. Residents and staff played a “One Fish, Two Fish” fishing game, Seuss Ring Toss, Toss the Cat in the Hat and Seuss Bowling. “The group was a lot bigger than normal and everyone seemed to enjoy it a lot!” Jasmine said. “We even had a resident who was our ring toss champ!” The most popular of the theme days was “Dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character.”

Nursing Home Week was capped off with a big party that incorporated elements of the weeks’ special activities.

“The residents really loved seeing all the staff dressed up,” Jasmine said. “One resident told me it made her

day so much more fun seeing the staff have fun.” It was all capped off with a big party that incorporated elements of the weeks’ special activities. “We brought everything we did throughout the week plus more and put it all into the party,” Jasmine said. “It was full of fun. I think it really brings everyone together when we are able to be a little silly at work.” Hours and hours of preparation go into making Nursing Home Week successful each year, but Jasmine said seeing staff and residents smile and have fun is the payoff, and other employees lend a hand where they can. – continued on page 3

Dementia Virtual Tour with Kindred Hospice We had our Dementia Virtual Tour in May with Kindred Hospice. It was a great event that people from the community, family members of residents and staff attended to become more aware of what it is like to have dementia. Thank you, Kindred Hospice, for teaming up with us and putting on this event for the community. u Parsons Presbyterian Manor | A PMMA COMMUNITY

Some of them know more about plants and flowers, so they can tell me how to trim the flowers,” he said. “You can learn a lot from them. It’s fun.” Nickolas helps other employees, but they do the same for him. That’s how it works at Parsons Presbyterian Manor. “They help you out, and you help them out,” he said. “If I’m behind, I can ask for their help and vice versa.” u
