Employee Spotlight: Taylor Stull OCTOBER 2020

Clay Center Presbyterian Manor artist to be featured in annual calendar Clay Center Presbyterian Manor announces a winning artist in its annual Art is Ageless® juried competition will be featured in the 2021 Art is Ageless calendar produced by PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America).

“Watercolor Dreams,” a painting by Kenny Carlson, will appear in the 40th anniversary calendar when it is released this fall.

In addition, “Hexie Table Topper,” a quilting entry by Shirley Pfizenmaier, and “Birches,” a painting by Coleen Weller, will be featured on the pull-out postcards in the 2021 calendar.

Works by local winners are automatically entered into a masterpiece level competition with winning art from 15 other PMMA communities. More than 160 entries were received for this year’s masterpiece competition. The winners are featured in the Art is Ageless calendar with pull-out postcards and greeting cards.

“We’re so very proud of our artists in residence, and all of the entries we received from others in our community” said marketing director Christi Rice. “It’s such an honor to see such a special group recognized for their creativity and talents.”

Taylor Stull receives a certificate in recognition of being the July Employee of the Month.

Taylor joined Clay Center Presbyterian Manor in February 2020 as our social services director. As stated in her nomination, “Taylor has shown incredible teamwork and service since the day she started with Presbyterian Manor.”

Taylor can be counted on to step up and step in to help at any time with any task. Her work ethic, support and service to those we care for are amazing. We are so blessed to have Taylor as part of our team.

Art is Ageless, open exclusively to people age 65 and older, is a copyrighted program of PMMA. For the competition, the artist must be at least 65 at the time the piece is created, and the piece must have been created in the past five years.

If you see Taylor, take the time to tell her thanks for all her hard work and congratulate her on this much-deserved recognition. u

Together again!

After such a long time of being apart and working so hard to minimize the risk of COVID-19, it was great to celebrate the small win of socially distanced bingo.

The game included masks and spaced seating, but for the first time since March we were able to host a small game of bingo with players together in the same room. In the previous months, activities such as this took place in doorways and down hallways. It is nice to begin the move back toward some normal group activities.

Anne and her daughter Cindy chatted about Cindy’s recent honeymoon!

Marilyn, her son and daughter-in-law had a beautiful afternoon for a visit on the front patio.

Also in the win column was the restart of the Sit and Be Fit classes held in the chapel.

It’s been a long five months, but at long last there’s hope for a return to normalcy. We’ve even been able to host a few visits with residents’ family members, who can schedule weekly visits with their loved ones.

Each visit can only last 30 minutes and must be held outdoors on the covered porch or the front patio area.

Bess enjoyed a visit from her granddaughter Deb, and kept saying she could not believe how good Deb looked!

Each resident can have two visitors per day, with masking and social distancing required. This means we still can’t hug or kiss our loved ones.

But we’re thrilled that there are encouraging signs that life might one day return to normal. u

Winning big with Twin Day No, you’re not seeing double. You’re just seeing the results of “Twin Day,” which was a big hit with staff, visiting family members and residents.

The sister duo of Aubri Campbell and Anabel Vazquez took Twin Day to a whole new level with matching hair dos and even a special handshake. We even managed to find staff and resident triplets.

Twin Day brought a lot of laughter and joy to our staff and residents. Thanks to everyone who participated and came to enjoy the double-the-fun antics. u
