NOVEMBER 2020

Join us in recognizing Julie Cole’s heroic work Clay Center Presbyterian Manor’s former executive director, Christian Gilbert, nominated Julie Cole as a Presbyterian Manor Hero.

Sarah Price, transportation coordinator, and Anica Tholstrup, activities director, pose with their very first group of bus riders for a trip around town to see what’s changed in Clay Center in the past several months.

The wheels on the bus keep turning

The recognition is due to Julie’s increased involvement with resident activities and her dedication to providing Julie Cole is recognized as a Clay Center Presbyterian additional spiritual Manor hero! and emotional support during COVID-19. Julie has stepped up and participated in daily hallway exercises with our residents and even leads the activity when our activities director is not available.

After a challenging year, we found a beautiful day for a ride about town. Activities Director Anica Tholstrup and Transportation Coordinator Sarah Price were thrilled to take a few ladies out on a bus for a ride. It was so fun and exciting for them to get out and see the change of seasons and also the changes around Clay Center. Maxine, Letha, Karen and Betty were the first of several groups to go for a fall bus ride.

The residents have really enjoyed the part of daily exercises where Julie touches her toes, and have commented that they have seen “a lot of improvement in her flexibility.” Julie also took it upon herself to play the piano and record the residents’ favorite hymns so they can have “Hallway Hallelujah” on Thursdays. This has become a staff favorite as well, and the music is uplifting to anyone who is within earshot. Julie has been with Presbyterian Manor for 16 years and serves as our medical records specialist. Fun fact: Julie started in health care as a senior in high school when she, her sister and her mother all worked together at Washington Homestead. Thank you, Julie, for all you do. We are better because you are here! u

The ladies couldn’t wait to load the bus for an adventure.

In the midst of concerns about safety, it was great to have the chance to explore our community and enjoy some fresh air and new scenery. u
