Residents share experiences with family thanks to ‘Flat Granny and Grampy’ Many people have heard the story of Flat Stanley and the exciting adventures he takes.

But what about “Flat Granny and Grampy?”

We sent “flat” versions of our residents to their families. They took their “flat relatives” on adventures, documented the fun with pictures, and sent them back for us to share with their family members.

The residents and staff have enjoyed seeing all the fun things our “flat residents” have been doing while our real residents have been staying safe here at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.

Thank you to everyone who sent us pictures of their granny’s and grampy’s adventures.

Here are just a few of the exciting trips our “flat” residents have taken: Flat Marilyn has had a very busy time farming with her son Larry, grandson Ryan and great grandson Brandt.

COVID-19 updates continue As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, you can count on regular communication from your PMMA community and PMMA leadership. PMMA’s President and CEO Bruce Shogren’s latest letter to residents and families are posted to your community website, ClayCenterPresbyterianManor.or g/covid-19. In this issue of Community Matters, you’ll find an explanation of the phases of reopening and a flow chart showing all the entities contributing to our reopening plans. u

Employee spotlight Meet Anna Spellman. Her team members nominated Anna for the monthly employee Bravo Award.

“As a coworker, she is the best of both worlds — hardworking, sweet, and kind, a team player always willing to help,” the nomination form explained. “Never a day goes by that she doesn’t make you feel appreciated. As a caregiver, she showers everyone with love, going above and beyond to make sure they have the best care!”

In addition to her work as a certified nursing assistant at Clay Center Presbyterian Manor, Anna is a high school senior who served as class president. She’s a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in the top 10 percent of her class.

Her coworkers say they are proud to work with her, and that she’s a perpetual ray of sunshine.

Anna plans to attend Kansas State to study for a career in elementary education.

Clay Center Presbyterian Manor gets good news in COVID-19 testing Clay Center Presbyterian Manor received some good news this week after testing the entire campus for COVID-19.

The senior living community tested 114 residents and employees on Wednesday, June 10, after a resident who had recently been in the hospital tested positive for the virus.

All residents and employees tested were negative for COVID-19. The resident who tested positive has now tested negative for the virus and is no longer in isolation.

“The health and safety of our residents and employees are a top priority for Clay Center Presbyterian

Manor,” said Morgan Burton, executive director.

Residents and employees at the community are not showing signs or symptoms of respiratory illness or COVID-19.

On March 13, Clay Center Presbyterian Manor implemented a strict no visitor policy at the community and discontinued group activities and communal dining for the entire campus per guidelines released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the CDC. All residents, including independent

living residents, have been strongly encouraged to follow the CDC/CMS guidelines, statewide and local stayat-home orders, and Kansas’ reopening plans.

We encourage all employees to follow CDC guidelines and best practices, as these are continually updated. We have been screening employees as they enter the community building for a shift and before employees have any direct contact with residents. We educate all employees to stay at home if they are experiencing symptoms of a respiratory illness or not feeling well. u

Employees showcase their spirit The Clay Center Presbyterian Manor Staff Relations Committee put together a spirit week to have a little fun and show everyone how much we care about our community.

Employees dressed up according to daily Molly themes. Each employee who participated was eligible for a drawing to win a matching themed gift basket. It was a fun and exciting week, and we’re thankful for all the creative and energetic members of our staff. The residents loved seeing all the crazy outfits our staff put together.
