Celebrating veterans COVID-19 updates continue

We’re humbled any time we have the opportunity to honor and recognize our heroic veterans.

Their service to our country can’t fully be repaid, and we owe them our gratitude — not just on Veteran’s Day, but every day of the year.

This year’s celebration included a veteran’s Pat Combs was in the Navy.

Visitation status is updated weekly on Mondays for the week ending the following Sunday, and may be updated as needed in between Mondays as COVID status changes.

Pumpkins double as canvas for resident, staff creativity There’s more than one way to carve a pumpkin — or in this case, paint a pumpkin.

Loy Corder and Carol McSweeney painted pumpkins for the pumpkin decorating contest.

Aberdeen Heights residents and staff entered into a friendly pumpkin painting contest in October. Participants completed their projects, which remained on display for everyone’s enjoyment.

Voters submitted anonymous ballots supporting their favorite fall creations. Rick Bongner from the maintenance department won first place! His pumpkin was a grim reaper carved scene.

Residents and staff entered the pumpkin decorating contest. Voting was open from Oct. 26– 30, and community members submitted anonymous ballots to determine the winner.

Veterans – continued from page 1 luncheon. Chaplain Julie Berger offered a speech and prayer, and we had the chance to visit with our resident veterans about their years of service.

Resident Naomi Dill shared her experiences as an Army nurse during World War II. She served in that role four years and has some remarkable memories. Likewise, Navy veteran Pat Combs shared some of his experiences and memories of valiantly serving our country.

Each year on Nov. 11, the country takes time to recognize the sacrifices and devotion of American vets. But it’s always a good time to take a few moments to thank a veteran for his or her selfless sacrifice. u

Sweet dreams for Halloween As the eve of Halloween approached, the directors of The Glen at Aberdeen Heights had a treat for residents.

Laney Liefer, Michelle Santel, Chris Bell, Hannah Lefort, Mina Dzanonovic and Kristine Pancer traversed the hallways with a cart loaded with sweet treats and drinks.

This sort of trick-or-treating in reverse was a fun way to celebrate the fall holiday and share a few special moments with each resident. u Kristine Pancer (Mary Poppins) gives a treat to Betty Schmitt.

As part of Aberdeen Heights’ ongoing customer service initiative, residents and their representatives are randomly selected to participate in telephone satisfaction surveys conducted by Pinnacle Quality Insight.

The graphic below highlights some of the survey results. All scores are given on a 5-point scale,

with 5 being the highest score and 1 the lowest score. Between October 2019 through September 2020, Aberdeen Heights residents and their families gave the community high scores in cleanliness, safety and security and demonstrating dignity and respect. Residents and families also reported a high willingness to recommend the community to others.

We greatly value the opinions of our residents and their representatives about the care and services we provide, and we encourage them to participate honestly when contacted by Pinnacle Quality Insight. All state and federal confidentiality laws are met in Pinnacle’s service. u
