Change to compliance hotline PMMA’s corporate compliance program provides a mechanism for the organization to guard against misconduct by employees, service partners, volunteers and others who are regularly in PMMA’s communities in compliance with federal and state laws governing providers of health care services.

Life enrichment director loves to make residents smile Life enrichment director Anica Tholstrup’s mind is always active, churning out new creative ideas for our residents.

“I love to get ideas from the residents,” Anica said. “I enjoy hearing about things Anica Tholstrup they would like to do. I also use Pinterest, different websites and Facebook. My mind is always thinking of different activities, and I’m constantly looking for new ideas from everywhere and everyone.”

Anica has been with Presbyterian Manor for more than three years and recently took the life enrichment director position. She said creating new and interesting activities for residents helps provide a sense of well-being and serves to enhance physical, cognitive and emotional health.

It is everyone’s responsibility to report suspected misconduct without fear of retaliation or retribution. PMMA uses a third party provider to manage the compliance hotline to ensure anonymity of those who report suspected misconduct. This company recently made upgrades to its system, which have changed the way people can report suspected misconduct, offering both telephone and online options.

The new toll free number is 1844-973-0049. A new web portal offers the ability to make a report via the internet at www.pmma.ethicspoint.com. u

Anica is always looking for new ideas for engaging, interesting, and entertaining activities — and she’s always looking for suggestions on how to improve and expand on

Residents seem to like the area music groups that play at Presbyterian Manor, Anica said. They also enjoy when local school kids visit to play games, build craft projects or engage in other activities with the residents.

“They really love that,” Anica said.

Additionally, residents can enjoy van rides to some of the smaller communities in the area — an activity that seems to be among residents’ favorites. There are also opportunities for group exercise.

Elementary students make art with Clay Center residents Our residents love having Mrs. Young’s second graders spend time with them — and it appears the feeling is mutual.

Students from Lincoln Elementary School have been visiting Clay Center Presbyterian Manor the past two months. Together with residents, they have completed a variety of beautiful art projects. They visit with one another, have fun and work very hard to create remarkable pieces together. Once the work is completed, the students share their art with residents, a number of whom have been hanging the projects on Presbyterian Manor residents and Lincoln Elementary students work their doors. u on their art projects.

EMPLOYEES GIVE BIG, FEATURING JULIE COLE Medical Records Coordinator Julie Cole has been with Clay Center Presbyterian Manor for 15-plus years and has a long history of giving.

Before Presbyterian Manor Julie worked at Kansas Wesleyan in fundraising and public relations. While there, she was part of a team that emphasized employee donors to help champion alumni giving. Julie believes if you work at a nonprofit, you should believe in the cause, and what you’re working for and want to give. Julie is our longest employee donor and has been giving to our cause for almost 10 years. Thank you Julie for your commitment to Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.

Clay Center Presbyterian Manor is also very proud of the recent surge in employee giving. Employee donors grew from two to 20—and still growing. This is all in part to a

campus wide education initiative. Executive Director, Christian Gilbert, kicked off the program to celebrate the organization’s Christian and philanthropic roots. “Our campus exists because of generous people living in the area and everyone should have the knowledge of how their gift can help a senior’s life.”

After a recent all staff training, Sarah Oenning, PMMA vice president of giving, spent time with employees to share how their giving can help residents. In return the employees received a T-shirt that carries the words “Live. Work. Give.” Gilbert commented that Sarah’s passion, history and knowledge of PMMA are contagious and help connect employees to the bigger picture of mission and philanthropy. You don’t have to be rich to be a philanthropist, you just have to give what you can.

THE FAQS ON THE SECURE ACT The Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act was enacted Jan. 1, 2020.

With it came many questions for those who are planning for retirement, retired or who are retiring in the near future.

Passed as part of a spending bill, the SECURE Act brought with it the most significant changes to retirement plans since 2006. While some changes impact you, others will impact the people you name as a beneficiary.

Changes to Know

1. You can contribute to your IRA longer. Previously, you could not contribute to your IRA after reaching the age of 70½. However, more and more people are working past that age. The SECURE Act repeals this age limitation, allowing you more time to save.

2. The required minimum distribution (RMD) age changed.

The SECURE Act changed the age at which you must start taking RMDs from your retirement account from 70½ to 72 for those who were born July 1, 1949, or later. This change allows you additional time to grow the funds in your account before you have to start withdrawing from it.

3. IRA beneficiary rules have changed. Prior to the SECURE Act, beneficiaries could take distributions throughout their lives. This offered tax savings for the beneficiary.

The SECURE Act preserved this option for beneficiaries who are spouses, but repeals it for non-spousal IRA beneficiaries. They will now have 10 years to withdraw the entire amount.

What Stayed the Same

If you’re 70½ or older, you can still make a tax-free gift to a qualified charitable organization. You can transfer any amount up to $100,000 per year directly to a qualified charitable organization without paying income tax on the distribution. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. Your gift will also be put to use today, allowing you to see the difference you’re making.
