Mother’s Day 1996 By Wayne Rector, Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor resident
Who can measure a mother’s love? Only God our creator, I suppose, for he has instilled this special gift in the mother of all His creation. A recent news item told of a mother cat which had rescued her five kittens from a burning building. Endowed with an undying mother’s Wayne Rector love, she braved the smoke and flames to carry her babies out one by one; setting them down outside and racing back in to get another one. When the last one was out she began to move them across the street for greater safety, whereupon firemen at the scene helped her move them. By then her eyes were blistered shut so she touched each one with her nose to make sure they were safe. At last report the “family” was doing well and the kittens were in great demand for adoption. Mothers are like that. The love and devotion of a mother is God’s gift to mankind. A mother’s love depends not on whether her children do good or not. Her heart may be gladdened or saddened by what they do, but her love will never fail. Out father, we think you so much for our mothers; for the unique love you have installed in their hearts. Bless them today and always we pray. In Jesus name, amen.
