Housekeeper loves bringing smiles to residents’ faces Therapist Maria Gomez and resident Jane Noyes enjoy an ice cream cone after a walk together.
Residents the reason therapist loves job Therapist Maria Gomez has a wonderful relationship with Aberdeen Heights residents and likes to use little incentives and treats to encourage residents to meet their therapy goals. Maria, an Aberdeen Heights employee for about seven years, is one of the therapists who help the community’s residents recover from surgery or illness and maintain wellness to live their lives to the fullest. She became a therapist while helping her mother in her fight against cancer. Maria would take her mother to the hospital for treatments and was drawn to the care industry. The best part of Maria’s job is developing relationships with residents. “So many stories, memories and knowledge shared,” she said. “I love coming to work every day.” When she’s not at work, Maria enjoys yoga, tennis and traveling.◆
Mina Hodzic goes above and beyond when it comes to her housekeeping position at Aberdeen Heights. Yes, she does a wonderful job keeping the community clean and safe, but she offers much more than a tidy environment. With an exuberant and positive attitude, Mina enriches residents’ lives by spending time talking and laughing with them, coloring Mina Hodzic and doing arts and crafts and puzzles. Mina loves to see people smile and is always willing to help other employees or departments. Staff and residents look forward to Mina’s weekly popcorn parties. She delivers popcorn to every area in The Glen. Thank you, Mina! ◆

A reminder of a special day In July, Aberdeen Heights-The Glen hosted a Reminiscence Wedding in memory care. The female residents held flowers and served as bridesmaids, and the male residents dressed up in bow ties and served as groomsmen. Chaplain Julie Berger officiated, and a harpist provided music for the service. Bubbles were used instead of the traditional rice. “Ewe Belong to Me,” a fiber arts piece by Diane Hootman, will appear in the 2020 Art is Ageless calendar. ART - continued from page 1
