For entertainment, we enjoy listening to piano music. At the April birthday party, we had a cake outfitted with faux diamonds and daisies. We look forward to celebrating June birthdays at a date that will be announced soon!

More sweet success for Small Business Days Residents recently were treated to another sweet story of a local small business when Holly Cunningham of Hollyberry Catering visited Aberdeen Heights during Small Business Days.

“It was so kind for her to take time from her busy schedule, as a mom of twin daughters and owner of a thriving business, to come talk with residents about starting her own baking and catering business,” said Bethany Holohan, life enrichment director. “She was great, and gave residents samples of her popular Apple Pie Butter Cake and Regular Gooey Butter Cake.”

The residents in attendance asked thought-provoking questions. “Are you ever able to enjoy your money?” asked Mary Vogel.

“Interesting you should say that,” replied Holly. “I was just wondering that on the way here, and the answer is ‘not yet.’ That is the dilemma of many small business owners. For the success of your dream, so often you have to be involved and present, but I am looking into ways to enjoy some downtime right now!”

In 2001, Holly, a St. Louis native, launched Hollyberry Catering to provide box lunches and buffets for corporate clients, as well as contemporary menus for events.

Under her leadership, the company has grown to become one of the largest catering companies in the St. Louis area, according to the St. Louis Business Journal, and is the

preferred caterer at more than 30 top area venues.

Ready to join our ‘not-so-hot’ bridge team?

Bridge is in the air! Some of our resident bridge teams have dismantled over time, but there is renewed interest at The Glen in revitalizing this great game.

To facilitate those interested in bridge, resident volunteer Pat Donovan will serve as “the bridge lifeguard.” Pat will be “on board” to help facilitate residents who haven’t played for a while, and also will pitch-in when an extra player is needed.

Don’t worry if your skills might not be what they used to be. This card

game is fun, and Pat is on hand to help. Many residents say they are “not so hot” at bridge anymore, but we hope you are willing to give it a try.

Signs have been posted around The Glen to inform and recruit potential bridge players. Open bridge takes place at The Glen every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Please join!

Remembering Easter fun The weather might have been cold and rainy on Easter, but that did not keep the children—and their parents and grandparents—from coming out to enjoy our celebration. We had a craft table, Easter egg hunt, piano music

by Ellen and Easter bunny donuts from The St. Louis Donut Drive. It was a very special morning. This annual event is open to residents and staff.

Despite the weather, we all had a wonderful time.

Learning new art skills Much like Art is Ageless® shows, this group of skilled nursing residents proves that it’s never too late to learn a new art skill. They spent time turning stones, wire and beads into beautiful trees.

Hooray for happy hour We’ve been putting the “happy” in happy hour with our new Family Happy Hour program.

Each month we have a new theme, along with music and refreshments.

In May, the theme was “island” and we had pina coladas, tropical beers, and steel drum and guitar music. We encourage residents to invite their families to attend.

Our Family Happy Hour generally takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

We also will be hosting a happy hour each week in assisted living.

So far, we’ve enjoyed such treats as violet liqueur and macaroons, Missouri wine and Missouri goat cheese, Irish beer and pub cheese, and Spanish wine and pate.

Great conversation flows at these events as we learn about the refreshments.

There’s no place like Oz Bob Eigenrauch, a graphic designer turned hospice chaplain, has an affinity for all things “Wizard of Oz.” He is working on a “Wizard of Oz” book about hope, love, courage and faith, called “The Road to Oz.” He came to speak to the residents and wore his “ruby red slippers.”

Residents celebrated by making haystacks to represent the scarecrow and ate Bugles to represent tornadoes.
