Precepting Testimonials The ASHP Section of Pharmacy Educators is collecting short, pharmacy preceptor video testimonials to promote student and resident precepting.

Submitted videos will be used to promote the importance of precepting for pharmacy professionals and highlight the value learners bring to pharmacy practice advancement. Videos will cover four key themes outlined below.

Why did you choose to become a preceptor?

What is the most fulfilling part of being a preceptor?

How have you leveraged learners to help expand practice at your site?

How have your learners brought value and/or contributed to research at your site?

Please create your video to speak to one or more of these categories. Your video will be spliced with other members' videos to create a compelling story. Please submit your video by April 1, 2022.

Journal Monitor There’s a lot in the literature about trends and improvements in experiential education. So we’ve created an easy way for you to keep up: The Journal Monitor. In each preceptor newsletter, we’ll provide you a brief look at some current articles. And we’ll provide the source information as well so you can take a look at the entire article yourself.

This letter, in response to "Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on training of pharmacy residents and fellows: results from a national survey of postgraduate pharmacy trainees" by Moore, et al., continues the conversation about how experiential education changed during and through the pandemic.

Addressing pharmacy training expectations and the preceptor perspective: Essential components to COVID-19 training adjustments

The first article addressed precepting issues including working from home, less direct patient care, less time spent with preceptors, and a trainee's perception of a lower quality experience. In this response, the authors challenge that the group of learners impacted by the first wave of COVID-19 may have better training in autonomy and independence as a result of the pandemic.

It concludes that preceptors should support the wellbeing of trainees through flexibility, open communication, and an understanding of outside complications and pressures.

Student Evaluations of Preceptors have been released!

Emails were sent this week containing a compilation of your APPE and/or IPPE evaluations for the period May 1, 2021, to November 30, 2021. All 3 reports have been combined into a single document as follows: Performance Analysis Report: an analysis of your individual performance on each metric of the evaluation completed by your students (first 5-6 pages of the attached document, questions 1-21) Comments Section: comments made by your students (at the end of the Performance Analysis Report, questions 22-24) Individual-to-Group Comparison Report: your overall rating as compared to all other preceptors (last 2 pages of the attached document) You may also access these reports directly in eValue as follows: Reports>Aggregate Comments about Educators Reports>Aggregate Educator Performance (click on "expanded view") Reports>Individual Score Comparison to People Group You can adjust the filters on each report screen to get the desired information and have great flexibility in selecting dates, IPPE and/or APPE rotations, etc.

Vaccination Updates If your rotation site has issued or altered a vaccination mandate , please share the communication with OEE Assistant Director, Susi Carbonneau (scarbo@presby.edu).

We are closely monitoring each site's requirements to make sure our students are in compliance, even as they change on a day-to-day basis!

Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy has had a COVID vaccination requirement in place since August 2021. Some medical and religious exemptions have been reviewed and approved. All records are being kept on file with OEE.

Preceptor Development Opportunities Live Offerings: The division of Diabetes and Heart Disease Management is partnering with CCI/Prisma Health to sponsor the upcoming virtual Chrysalis and M.A.P. Student Introduction Emails IPPE students (P1-P3) are instructed to send an introduction email to their preceptor 2 weeks prior to the start of their IPPE. This email should include their personal goals for the rotation, their work and rotation history, and ask for any work or readings that should be completed before the first day.

APPE students (P4) are instructed to send an introduction email 30 days prior to the start of the APPE. The introduction emails provides the preceptor their first impression of the student and can be a good starting point to discuss the student's personal and professional growth and progress.
