I want to welcome you to the annual Southeast Brangus Breeders Association’s Showcase Sale.This year we moved to a new location, Hinds Community College, in Raymond, Mississippi.

I want to give a special thank you to all the consignors who put cattle in the sale. We have a few new consignors and some that always support this sale. We have some of the largest Brangus breeders represented in this sale. We are selling some of the top-quality genetics in the Brangus breed.

My hat’s off to the consignors as well, as they have truly made this offering a “Showcase” event. This year sees a few changes as we transition to the Hinds Community College sale facility in Raymond, MS. Not only a new location but also an all-video sale. We believe this will expand our marketing reach and give those unable to make it to the sale the opportunity to participate in the quality offering represented in this sale. THE

WHEN RUSSELL AND GINGER GOT MARRIED, he was a farm boy who became a hospital president and used his commercial cattle ranch as his “golf game”; and she was a big city career woman whose closest contact with a cow was to eat a steak. “Obviously, we were destined to be Brangus breeders.” Actually, Russell had a degree in Agriculture from the University of Kentucky and Ginger got hers by attending the University of Florida’s three-day Beef Short Course for 26 years.

In the eight years before he retired from the hospital and their move to the ranch in Kenansville, they combined their talents to increase the size of the ranch and improve their herd, but they realized that it was too small to be self-sustaining. So, they decided to build a small purebred herd as a trial; and they fixed on Brangus because they had gotten more money for their Brangussired calves. The SBBA sale was one of the first they attended and they not only bought cows but said they met a great group of people. As they went to more sales and bought more (and more expensive) cattle and met more Brangus breeders, the decision was made to liquidate their commercial herd and go all Brangus. Thus, Clayton’s Flying C Ranch was born (Russell loved piloting his plane).

Russell served one term as president of Florida Brangus Breeders Association (FBBA) and then pretty much left work in organizations to Ginger claiming that “If she spent half as much time and effort working on the ranch as she does in volunteer work there’s no telling where we’d be”. Ginger says: “Growing up I was taught that if you were going to be vocal, you had to be active in an organization; and no one ever accused me of keeping my opinions to myself.” She initially became active in FBBA serving as its treasurer for five years including 1997 when Florida hosted the National Junior Brangus Show, which for a short time was virtually a full time and very rewarding job. She served three terms on the board and was president in 2006.

Chris Hardee asked Ginger to head the Fun Auction for SBBA, which she did for several years with the aid of her trusty laptop. Joy Reznicek got her to help clerk sales and when Joy quit running them, Ginger and her trusty laptop took over for both SBBA and FBBA. She served two terms on the board and received the SBBA Award of Excellence in 1997.

She served on the IBBA committees for breed improvement and convention planning and was also the unofficial bane of the programming staff when IBBA was building their computer system – pointing out errors and offering suggestions.

Florida state and county cattle associations were major areas of activity for Ginger. She was the first Brangus representative to the Florida Seed Stock Council and served a term as secretary. She was on the Florida Cattleman Magazine Editorial Board and was instrumental in getting a Brangus Edition in the magazine in 2000. She also served on the state Beef Cattle Improvement Association board. As a member of the Osceola Cattlewomen, she dressed up as a cow several years to explain to fourth graders “why cows are man’s best friend” on Farm/City Days. In 2003 she was named the Osceola County Cattlewoman of the Year. 4-H was a special love of Ginger’s and she led a club and served on the county board for several years. Because of 4-H, she was an active member of the Osceola County Fair (KVLS).

In 2006 Russell and Ginger made “one of the most difficult decisions either of us had ever made when we decided to sell the ranch”. They moved to Citrus County on six acres on the Withlacoochee River and started the next phase of their lives –travel and fishing. They managed to visit a large portion of the world taking at least one or two cruises a year as well as lots of visits with family. CFC, which was Clayton’s Flying C identifier, became the “Clayton’s Fishing Craft” identifier. Ginger has noted there is a commonality between boats and ranch tractors: each new one becomes bigger and more expensive.

Russell passed away in 2019, just a few days before his goat yard was completed and they were going to purchase a very small herd of meat goats – you just can’t keep the country out of the boy. Ginger has come full circle – enjoying a steak with Elsa (current Rottweiler), fishing, needlepointing and enjoying family.

She has offered a standing invitation to stop by if you get down her way. She’ll take you out on CFC 3, a pontoon boat that she has finally learned to operate - running a boat was in Russell’s job description.

Except for those stated in the below terms and conditions, there are no warranties, either expressed or implied, as to the merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose with respect to the cattle being sold at this auction.The warranties and guarantees set forth in the “Terms Conditions” are in lieu of all other warranties, either expressed or implied, and the remedies provided therein shall be the sole and exclusive remedy of the buyer, or any party through buyer, for any breach of warranty or guarantee therein provided, and all other obligations or liabilities.

1. BIDDING: Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder without reserve. The auctioneer in charge will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision shall be final.

2. TERMS: All terms are cash or check. Settlement must be made to the clerk at the conclusion of the auction.

3. PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold, but will not be delivered until settlement has been made.

4. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: When full settlement has been made, a certificate of registration will be furnished and transferred to the purchaser on those lots that are registered. Give full name and address to the secretary when making payment so the Certificate of Registry will be transferred properly.

5. HEALTH: All animals where possession is sold are eligible for interstate shipment except as otherwise noted. The cattle have been tested for Tuberculosis and Bangs disease within thirty (30) days of the sale date or come from a Brucellosis Certified Free Herd. A health certificate will be furnished.

6. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the auction box will take precedence over the printed matter in this catalog. All cattle will be sold by lot numbers as announced by the auctioneer.

7. BREEDING GUARANTEE: (A) All animals are guaranteed to be breeders with the exception of (1) injury or disease occurring after sale; (2) negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser. (B) Any female is considered a breeder if she is pregnant at the time of sale and/or she has a calf at side. (C) Any bull which either (1) produces viable semen; (2) settles 1/3 or more of the healthy cows he serves; (3) is the sire of 20 or more animals or; (4) settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by a competent veterinarian during any six month period trial, shall be considered a breeder.

8. MAIL BIDS: Phone, mail or wire bids, may be furnished in confidential form.

9. OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT: A. All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing within six (6) months of the sale date. B. Any animal that has not proven itself a breeder within the time limits specified above, if in healthy condition, may be returned to seller at buyer’s expense. The seller reserves the right and privilege of trying for a period of six (6) months to prove the animal a breeder. If proven a breeder, the animal will be returned at buyer’s expense. Should the animal fail to breed, the buyer, at his option, may either demand return of the purchase price or replacement of the animal with another of equal value. C. Any animal returned must have a veterinarian’s certificate that it is healthy and free of Bangs and Tuberculosis.

10. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: 1. The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. 2. All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk and the owners nor any person connected with the management of the sale assume any liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents which may occur.
