Southeast Brangus Breeders Association Showcase Sale 2024
Hello and Welcome to the 2024 Southeast Brangus Breeders Association’s Showcase Sale. This year, it has been my pleasure to work with Doug Williams to put together an impressive sale offering for this event. We would also like to welcome you to a new location for the events The National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in lovely Dothan, AL. We believe this is the stoutest set of young females ever presented and offered for sale, many being donor quality. This year we have decided to include a few herd sires to the sale. Lastly, we will offer frozen genetics from some of the leading programs in the Southeast. We invite you to join us for the Southeast Regional Junior Brangus Show on Friday, followed by the Southeast Brangus Breeders Association Banque and Fun Auction. The Sale will be on Saturday, September 28th, starting promptly at 10 am CST. As always, if you have any questions while examining the offering, please call, text, or email me.
Welcome to the annual SBBA showcase sale. This year's sale will be held in Dothan, Alabama at the grounds where the peanut festival is held yearly.
The junior show will be held at the same location on Friday. This year the female and bull sale will held together on September 28 beginning at 10 am.
I once again want to thank all the consigners for participating in our sale. The sale offering consists of 3N1, pairs, bred heifers, open heifers, frozen embryos, show heifer prospects and herd sire prospects. The SBBA has some of the top breeders in the IBBA and participates every year. I want to thank Chris Heptinstall for helping the last two years with the SBBA sale.
This is going to be my last year for managing the Showcase and bull sale. I want to thank all the SBBA members for allowing me to manage this sale for 23 years. It has experience and honor.
Whenever the SBBA board and sale committee appoints a new sale manager, hopefully, it will be Chris Heptinstall. Chris has been heavily involved with Brangus for several years as manager for SVF, QVF and Southern Cattle Company. Wherever Chris has worked he always participated in the SBBA sales. Chris also served as president for IBBA, and on several committees.
I want to thank Lea Weinheimer for the wonderful job through the years on the catalogs, and advertising. It's been a blessing to work with one who not only is great at her job but knows those in the association and breed as we consider Lea as a close friend. Thank you.
I am cutting back but still involved with the association and will still manage the Cut Above Sale in Cullman, Alabama in the spring. It has been not only an honor but a pleasure working with all of you and I always look forward to seeing everyone at each event.
As always if I can be of any assistance feel free to call, text or email me anytime. Thank you!

THE 2024 SOUTHEAST BRANGUS BREEDERS ASSOCIATION SHOWCASE SALE IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF JOHN MILAM OF DRAGGIN’ M RANCH
LIKE A TRUE COWBOY, JOHN “DIED WITH HIS BOOTS ON”. John Milam, 82, of El Dorado, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024. John is survived by his children, Laura Driggers of Fayetteville, Lisa (Mark) Malone of St. Louis, Lynne (Joe) Tamanini of Indianapolis, and John Rodney Milam of El Dorado; grandchildren Jon Michael Driggers, Shelby Boone, Nick Tamanini, Ryan Tamanini, Katie Malone, Claire Malone and Ben Milam; brother James Harold Milam (Beth) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and sister Marilyn Milam Hoskins, of Lincoln, Nebraska.
John was born in Union County to Harold and Mildred Milam. He grew up in Montana and Colorado and attended Colorado State University. Following the death of his father, John moved back to El Dorado to start his own company, Milam Construction. John grew his small business into one of Union County’s largest employers and a pillar of the community.
Later in life John returned to his love of horses and took up Team Penning on a semi-professional basis. He immensely enjoyed annual trail rides in the Pecos Mountains of Sante Fe, New Mexico with the Chuck Wagon Trail Riders. Wanting to return to the lifestyle of a rancher that had captured his spirit as a teenager, John established Draggin’ M Ranch in 1998. Today the Draggin’ M has grown into one of the most successful Brangus breeding cattle operations in the country under the management of Grady Green. John was proud to be named Breeder of the Year in 2015 by the International Brangus Breeders Association.
John relished his role as a civic leader providing countless jobs at a variety of businesses in town and serving on several boards including First Financial Bank for over 20 years. John touched the lives of so many in the community with his friendly nature and genuine interest in helping others. He was especially proud of his contributions to the Murphy Arts District. John will be remembered not only for his generosity but also for his kindness and fun-loving spirit.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BRANGUS BREED ON 75
YEARS OF EXCELLENCE!
“WHETHER WE HAVE MET HERE TO MAKE HISTORY BY FOUNDING A RECOGNIZED BREED, OR WHETHER WE HAVE JUST HAD A PLEASANT GET-TOGETHER, DEPENDS PURELY AND SIMPLY UPON WHAT WE BREEDERS OURSELVES DO TO CARRY OUT THIS PROGRAM. If we do it according to plan, we have taken an unparalleled forward step in the founding of a new breed that will have cattle of type and quality which meet strict specifications.” These words were spoken on July 29, 1949, by Carlton Corbin, the day the Brangus Association recognized its beginning. Present that day in Vinita, Oklahoma, were 54 cattlemen representing 16 states and Canada.

EMBRYO
A RARE OPPORTUNITY: Phillips Ranch has agreed to open the tanks and give the buyer the opportunity to choose 5 embryos from any mating in inventory. You get to choose from some of the most influential donors in the breed. Such as A5051, the #1 IMF cow in the breed and over $500,000 in progeny sales. 535A8, the dam of many of the breed's most heavily used herd sires, as well as the dam of the two high-selling females at the 2024 Phillips Ranch female sale. 535A8 has amassed progeny sales nearing the $500,000 mark. 10A3, who is known as "the phenotype cow". The calves on the ground out of this cow are amazing. 1912C1, who has become known as "the can't miss cow". 1912C1 is also the dam of 1912L2, which sold for $51,000 in the 2024 Phillips Ranch female sale. 541Y18, the donor who started the Phillips Ranch program. 30F18, known as the cowman's kind of cow. 26D9, the now famous donor who is the mother to herd sires and donors alike. If there was ever a cow who earned her way to the donor pen, this is the one. 209C5, another carcass queen and mother to many herd sires. 111C6, the mother of Big Lake. 541D5, the $30,000 purchase and one of the most eyeappealing cows you will ever see. 30G3. She does it all. She has worked with every bull she has been mated to. 541G5, the next famous donor at Phillips Ranch. 1178J, a young cow who is quickly becoming a star. These are just a few of the famous donors you can choose from. Rare might not be the right word to describe this opportunity as this will likely be the ONLY time something like this will be available. Study your lesson and don't miss this opportunity.
