South Dakota Limousin Association Hosts Meetings on NALF Alignment with Tyson
T
he South Dakota Limousin Association (SDLA) held two meetings Tuesday, September 29, 2015, in Mitchell and Ft. Pierre, South Dakota. Mark Anderson, NALF Executive Vice President, presented information concerning the alliance with the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) and Tyson Fresh Meats. The first meeting, hosted by Curt and Leanne Wiezcorek of Mount Vernon, took place in Mitchell, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Cattlemen’s Club. Guests were treated to a complimentary steak dinner following the presentation. The second meeting, hosted by the SDLA, was held at the Casey Tibbs
Center in Ft. Pierre. The program started at 4:00 p.m. followed by a free, catered roast beef dinner. Both meetings were well attended by seedstock and commercial producers alike. Mark Anderson explained the new opportunity that NALF has entered into with Tyson Fresh Meats. The program offers commercial cattle producers and cattle feeders the ability to market cattle through existing branded programs that Tyson is currently marketing today. Producers can elect to market cattle into the Global Animal Partnership (GAP), the Open Prairie Natural by affidavit, NHTC (Non-Hormone Treated cattle), or the Lim-Choice conventional fed cattle grid with Tyson.
NALF already has members feeding a substantial number of cattle successfully in these programs on an annual basis. NALF’s goal is to qualify more cattle that are eligible for these premium programs by identifying commercial operations that incorporate Limousin genetics into their breeding programs. Tyson firmly believes in the heterosis advantages the Limousin breed provides. NALF will also be looking to identify and qualify additional feed yards that want to
