From our Executive Director What a year this has been! In March, every PRC program was rapidly adjusted because of the Covid-19 pandemic. What stayed constant is the PRC’s mission to serve neighbors. What stayed constant was your kindness. Throughout these challenging days, I have seen kindness and compassion take so many forms – neighbors showing up to volunteer, checking on one another, and sustaining PRC’s work through donations and supply drives. PRC continues to be guided by our values of dignity, compassion, and creativity. Our long-term priorities remain constant: to support people, improve our facilities, and prepare to grow. As we continue to focus on these areas, a new priority is to serve neighbors safely in a pandemic. These months have caused us to stretch in new and innovative ways. You’ll see several examples in these pages of how services have adapted to reach neighbors. We know we will make it through this time, together. Now, more than ever, we couldn’t do it without you. PRC Responds to COVID-19 When the Covid-19 crisis broke, PRC rapidly modified operations. We adapted our emergency food and social services to safely care for our work teams and those seeking help. Our Job Search Assistance, Literacy, Computer Training and Art programs are now offering workshops and classes online during this time of social distancing. We have been resilient and stayed strong, making sure that the best things about the PRC Community still remain. We continue to meet vital needs, every day. PRC plans to continue serving clients while prioritizing safety precautions and social distancing and providing outdoor food distribution until it is safe to work differently. The kindness and encouragement of our community has truly made it possible to continue living out PRC’s motto of neighbors helping neighbors. From volunteers responding to the call to help during a pandemic, to instructors in the Art and Literacy programs, to the tremendous generosity we’ve seen from our donors and supporters – we’ve worked together to get through these challenging times. EMERGENCY PROGRAMS: Help for Today 39,572 FOOD VISITS
FOOD RESCUE We rescued over 1,900,000 pounds of unused food from 44 local grocery stores and restaurants with an average of 336 monthly pick-ups from our partners.
SCHOOL BASED MODEL SUCCESS We continue to serve the West Chicago community through a partnership that includes Leman Middle School and St. Andrew Lutheran Church reaching 2,106 neighbors.
HEALTHY FOOD FOCUS PRC distributed 3,648,000 pounds of food to our neighbors. We are continuing to purchase more eggs, milk and fresh fruit, vegetables and meat as part of our Nutrition Commitment.

Distributing Food in a new Modified Service Model during the pandemic Our client choice food pantry model shifted in March 2020 in response to Covid-19 PRC switched to a model where pre-packed grocery carts of food are delivered to clients’ cars to ensure the safety of our clients, volunteers and staff. Client choice is still offered including the need for: diapers, pet food, cleaning and hygiene products and some dietary needs like gluten-free food. From April to June alone PRC provided 7,500 carts of food to local families.

Social Services and Emergency Aid DISTRIBUTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES SAFELY PRC needed to modify our typical Back to School supply distribution by serving the community in a “drivethru” style at DuPage County Fairgrounds. We were excited to provide 950 students with backpacks!
SOCIAL SERVICES Our dedicated team of volunteers and staff provided 3,567 consultations and referrals to neighbors during these extraordinary times. PRC also provided financial assistance to 542 families.
Clothes Closet VISITS There were 5,858 visits to our Clothes Closets in Wheaton and Westmont through March 2020. 8

EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS: Offering Hope for Tomorrow Adult Learning and Literacy Programs (ALL) CLASSROOM LEARNING 434 Students participated in 19,255 hours of learning in classes including English Language Learning, GED and Citizenship testing preparation.

My current group includes students from China, Vietnam, Russia, Bulgaria, and Spain. I am continually awed by the fact that people are so much more alike than different. Neither pandemic, nor social unrest, nor politics, nor economic challenge has kept PRC students from their common pursuit of English proficiency. Through technology, they meet each week to share their opinions, ideas, hopes, questions, and concerns. I feel privileged to be part of this program and grateful for PRC’s commitment to carry on the essential work of literacy education.

SUMMER SCIENCE GOES VIRTUAL In Summer 2020 we combined Summer Science and Kids Art for an educational and fun virtual learning experience. We are proud to have registered 77 students for this pilot model. Students completed the online Summer Science/Kids Art pilot and recorded more than 584 learning hours.

Our Health Education Advocacy Learning (HEAL) program offers health topics including healthy eating, talking to your doctor and dealing with medicine and emergencies.

Art CONNECTING THROUGH ART 256 Neighbors participated in Art classes including Watercolor and Ceramics. Creating Art can be an important part of self-care and builds community.
SHARING ART IN THE COMMUNITY 172 pieces of Artwork created by the PRC community were shared locally via exhibitions across DuPage County through our Art Lending Programs.
KIDS ART Kids Art classes and workshops offered 480 school children a fun outlet for their creativity.

Computer Training and Access COMPUTER TRAINING 551 students took almost 4,000 hours of classes including our popular Windows Fundamentals, Introduction to Computers and Excel 1. The digital divide is narrowing with each enrollment in these classes!
COMPUTER ACCESS Thanks to the donations of our community 442 computers were distributed to our neighbors. Our computer refurbishing team repairs computers for the community and fixed 601 computers this past year.

Job Assistance PERSONAL JOB COACHING Job Coaches work one on one with our Job Seekers consulting on their job search plan and advising on various aspects including interviewing and resume creation. There were 542 Job Consultations last year.
5TH ANNUAL CAREER FAIR HELD IN EARLY MARCH Over 100 job seekers attended our 5th Annual Career Fair. Local employers were present to meet candidates. Attendees could also practice their interviewing skills, take a professional LinkedIn photo and learn about our Career Aptitude Assessment on-line program.

CAREER WORKSHOPS PRC offers several exciting workshops including: Am I Ready? Cool Tools for your Job Search, Mock Interviews and Resume versus the Robots (learning how to get through the first layer of automated job candidate screening). Almost 800 clients attended these beneficial workshops!

PRC has earned the highest possible 4 star rating from Charity Navigator for 12 consecutive years. Only 1% of charities rated have received this distinction, differentiating PRC from its peers, exemplifying the high standard of service at PRC, and indicating that PRC outperforms most other charities in America.

PRC - VOLUNTEER DRIVEN SINCE 1975 Last year 2,367 Volunteers gave 81,187 hours of service to PRC. With a staff of less than 50 employees we could not serve our clients without our loyal, dedicated volunteers. Each of our programs rely on the time and talent of our volunteers. We were thrilled to welcome over 700 new volunteers to the PRC family this year. PRC successfully expanded our use of online scheduling for Volunteers this year.
Dear PRC, Thanks so much! I can’t tell you how much volunteering at PRC means to me. Thank you for all you do, especially during these difficult times, to keep it up and running. Beyond giving our essential food, PRC is a shining light in these times of despair and fear. People not only need food, they need hope.
