How to Enroll...

Registration Information •

Pre-registration (3 days prior to the start date at the latest) is required for all classes! In-class registrations will not be accepted.

•

For Registration information call 780-7311.

•

Register early! Many classes fill before their start dates.

•

Classes may be cancelled if there is low enrollment.

•

All registrations are taken on a first come first serve basis.

•

Mail In & Fax In receipts will be mailed. We will not call you to confirm your registration.

•

A non-refundable $2 convenience fee will now be applied to all online transactions.

•

Waiting lists will be established if a program is full. If a space becomes available we will contact you. You will not be charged for the class unless you are enrolled. If you wrote a check for several classes and you are put on the waitlist, the remaining balance of your check will be automatically credited to your account for future use in our programs. If you would like a refund, please contact the department at 650.780.7311.

Log on to: www.redwoodcity.org/parks 1. Go to “online registration” 2. You will need to set up an account 3. You may then log on and register 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If a class is cancelled by the department, a full refund will be issued, less online convenience fees.

CLASS Cancellations made 1 week prior to the class start date will receive a refund less a $5 cancellation fee.

Students who wish to withdraw from a class less than one week prior to the start date will receive a department credit which may be applied to any future recreation department activity, less the $5 cancellation fee. SINGLE DAY WORKSHOPS CANNOT BE REFUNDED AT THIS TIME.

•

A $5 per class cancellation fee will be charged for processing refunds for all classes.

•

There is NO REFUND for the $2.00 convenience fee charged by ActiveNet when you register online. This fee is collected by the Active Network to offset the costs of providing the service, and are not collected by the City of Redwood City.

In general, no refunds or credits will be issued after the class begins.

Drop-off - Check or Credit Card Hand delivery of registration, but not processed by staff. Drop-offs, will be handled in the order received and grouped with our mail-in & fax-in registrations. Receipts will be mailed or emailed, by request.

Students who are dissatisfied with a program for any reason must fill out a program evaluation prior to receiving a credit so we can make the class better in the future. Credits and refunds will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the program supervisor.

This policy applies to our fee based recreation programs and not to: Adult sports leagues, building/facility rentals & fees, food concessions, special events, recreational (open) swimming, aerobics and fitness passes, trips and class materials fees.

Resident Status- Any person with a home Redwood City mailing address is considered a resident. A Redwood City P.O. Box or business address will not be taken as proof of residency. A non-resident is someone who lives in another city. We have reinstated Non-resident class fees.

We’re Only Human- With so much planning, sometimes we make mistakes. Occasionally, locations change, number of classes change, and of course we have typos. Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC)

The mission of the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC) is to promote positive collaboration and active engagement by residents in the communities we serve. Services include training individuals to communicate and solve problems together, facilitating group and community meetings, and public participation skill building. PCRC also assists in the resolution of conflicts with mutually acceptable agreements. PCRC recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers to provide an array of services. The program provides assistance to crime victims who have suffered physical injury or the threat of injury as the result of a violent crime. Priority Registration is given to Continuing students before resident registration begins. Families must provide age verification with your initial registration. Acceptable proof of age can be one of the following: Birth Certificate or passport. Please call 780-7311 for more information. You must register at Red Morton Community Center.

• Registration for 2013-2014 school year began on May 1st.

• A $100 deposit is required to hold your child’s spot.

• All Pre-K classes began on September 4, 2013, All Lil’ Tots classes began on September 3, 2013.

Children must be toilet trained and developmentally ready to be separated from their parents. Please be prepared to bring snacks for the class 1-2 times per session.

Spanish Immersion Lil’ Learners Preschool

Age 3-5 Must be of age by October 1, 2013 This program is designed for children to develop social, cognitive, and physical skills in a stimulating and warm environment. Teachers implement a child-centered philosophy to create a curriculum responsive to all the children in the group. Children will be introduced to a variety of Pre-K concepts including language, math, art, science, music and movement. By creating an environment that balances teacher directed and unstructured activities, children will develop independence, confidence and a positive sense of the world around them. Children must be toilet trained and developmentally ready to be separated from their parents. Please be prepared to bring snacks for the class 1-2 times per session. Age 3-5 Must be of age by October 1, 2013 Research shows that total immersion is the best way for children to develop a long lasting foundation in the Spanish language. 90% of instruction will be in Spanish and 10% in English. The classes are designed to spark and maintain children’s interest in Spanish by engaging them in creative and enjoyable cultural activities such as dancing, singing, literature, art and games. Through immersion, children will learn the Spanish language naturally and easily as they master basic pre-school skills.

Arista Lemos was a competitive gymnast as a youth. She started teaching gymnastics in 1999, and fell in love with the sport all over again. Let your preschoolers jump, wiggle, kick, shoot and scramble as they spend a few hours each week playing a variety of games. Shhhh, it’s a secret – the kids will be improving their motor skills, but only parents will know that! All the kids will see is that they get to spend three hours each Friday playing really cool games! We’ll do everything from freeze tag to egg races to obstacle course runs to learning the fundamentals of soccer and basketball. All of the games we play are designed to help kids build gross motor skills while instilling a joy around being active. Age 4-7 Children play FUN activities and games with low compression tennis balls on the “42 ft. court” that will enhance their skill development in a success oriented environment. Small group lessons, only 2-6 students! We recommend the 23” to 25” rackets.

Age 11-14 For Beginning to Low Intermediate players.

Develop the essential techniques with emphasis on control, depth, and direction on the “78 ft. court” with regulation tennis balls. Lessons will also incorporate basic strategy and tactics.

Age 11-14 For players who are consistent on slow to medium paced shots but needs to develop more spin, power, and/or variety. Basic to advanced shots, strategy and tactics will be introduced and reinforced by performance enhancing drills.

Youth After School Sports- Golf Program Redwood City Parks & Rec and Emerald Hills Golf Course, in partnership with Hook A Kid on Golf, is offering a 3-Part Youth Golf Program.

All classes are taught at Emerald Hills. Each Clinic is a separate class and classes must be taken in order. Both the Tee and Green Level Clinics must be completed in order to participate in the Challenge Golf League. Participants of the Tee Level Course receive a starter set of Golf Clubs they can keep. Classes offered Tuesdays.

Ages 8-15 The Green Level Training Program stresses the importance of learning the rules & etiquette of the game. with Linda Scheer, M.S. Vocational Rehab, practicing Tai Chi since 1988 and teaching since 1995.

Tai Chi Chuan is an internal martial art, promoting balance, strength, flexibility, health, and relaxation. The class covers Chi Kung warm-ups, the Tai Chi stance and principles, the short and long integrated forms and applications, and partner movement. The individual begins learning the basics and the form. Partner movement happens only when the student is comfortable with it and is approached without force. Ice skating is a confidence building sport that is challenging and rewarding. The Adult Basketball leagues are once again in “Fast Break Mode”.

Games are played on Thursday nights at the Red Morton Community Center Arena, on a FULL sized College basketball court. No Middle School-sized courts here. It’s wide open in Redwood City. We will use 2 Quality Basketball Officials and we use a “Shot Clock” during our Spring –Summer Leagues. Where else can you get that level of play? This league will fill up quickly, so be sure to get your paperwork in early. Space is limited.

FREE AGENT SPORTS LISTS Are you looking to play on a Softball, Volleyball, or Basketball team, but do not have a team to play on? If so, this year we have added a new “FREE AGENT FORM”. We do not place individuals on specific teams, but will provide a place where teams can go to find additional players for their teams, should they need people.

Free Agent Forms can be downloaded at : www.quickscores.com/redwoodcity You will be required to complete the entire form, including what sport you would like to play, age, level of ability, positions you play, and a current photo of you. The form will be kept on file in the Sports Commissioner’s office, and only be used as a guide for Team Managers. If you have been placed on an old Free Agent list in the past, you must complete the new form for 2013. Incomplete forms will not be processed. Another way to find a team is to go to the games directly, and ask the managers. We’ll do our best to find a team for you to play on.

SamTrans Senior Mobility Program A Mobility Ambassador can help you with many transportation-related issues, including planning a trip using public transit, finding a driver safety class, and learning about alternatives to driving such as community shuttles. Ambassadors also give educational presentations, conduct group and one-on-one rider training, and organize group training trips on transit to interesting destinations.

Nine of Redwood City’s beautiful parks (in blue text) have picnic areas to reserve year-round. Residents can reserve dates any time during the season, Non-Residents can reserve tables up to 3 months in advance only. The cost is only $20 per table (an extra $20 fee for nonresidents). Reservation requests may be made online at redwoodcity.org, by calling 780-7327 or by e-mail at picnics@redwoodcity.org.
