Pusch Ridge Christian Academy’s humble beginnings are a testament to God’s perfect timing and abundant provisions Men and women of strong faith have poured out their hearts to cast visions, pray fervently, and rely fully on the Lord If our hallways, classrooms, meeting rooms, and gym walls could talk, they would tell stories of excitement and perseverance, milestones and disappointments, teamwork and effort, and obedience to God and His faithfulness
In 1997, families of the newly established Catalina Foothills Church came together to discuss the need for a classical, Christian school. Twenty-seven eager students were enrolled for the inaugural 1998-1999 school year in a rented facility at Cornerstone Christian Academy (CCA). Classes were moved to Catalina Foothills Church the following year.
Shortly after, a committee from Catalina Foothills Church began discussions about opening a high school. Word spread, and they were approached by Palo Verde Christian School (PVC), led by Board President Max Wilford, to consider acquiring their school In 1994, PVC had relocated to North Oracle Road, on land nestled at the base of Pusch Peak in the Catalina Mountains This land had originally been donated in 1958 by Charles and Anna Eggleston to Palo Verde Baptist Church for “religious and educational purposes.” The acquisition was finalized, the school was renamed Pusch Ridge Christian Academy (PRCA), and the doors opened to 330 students in grades 7–12 for the 20002001 school year.

Over time, CCA built and added classrooms at its current Grammar Campus location while PRCA added additional classroom buildings, athletic fields, an amphitheater, and outdoor plazas. The Governing Boards of the two schools merged in 2008 and became Catalina Foothills Church Schools In 2015, CCA and PRCA became Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, K-12
In the 2022-2023 school year, South Campus welcomed 38 students in grades K-1, marking the realization of a vision to expand the school’s mission. Students participate in a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program, with an additional grade added each year.
Today, over 970 students are enrolled at PRCA’s three campuses.
From the vantage point of eternity, 25 years is surely a fleeting moment of time. However, from our earthbound, human perspective, we have experienced so much during this period. Just before the turn of the millennium, a school now known as Pusch Ridge Christian Academy was born From our simple origins as Cornerstone Christian Academy, PRCA has become a premier, multi-campus leader in classical Christian education The world has changed so much in 25 years, and so has our school. But, we remain faithful to our mission and the singular truth found in our Lord Jesus.
In the year 1675, Sir Isaac Newton wrote in a letter: “If I've been able to see further, it's only because I stood on the shoulders of giants ” We are grateful to the PRCA pioneers and to all the faithful faculty, staff, parents, students, donors, and prayer partners who have faithfully supported God’s Kingdom work. Your steadfast belief in the mission of leading students has led us to a new place in PRCA history - a time of looking forward while never forgetting our past Through strategic planning, covenantal commitment, and continued dependence on God’s grace, we will carry the PRCA legacy forward together into future years.
It is a privilege to be a part of continuing God’s great work at His school called Pusch Ridge Christian Academy In 1 Corinthians 3:9, we are inspired when we read: “For we are God's fellow workers You are God's field, God's building ” Although we are blessed with great facilities and three beautiful campuses, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is a community of people who have been called out darkness into His marvelous light. Let’s pray together for our pa present, and future students, that they may grow in the knowled and grace of Jesus
May we continue to do All for Christ and His Kingdom John Tyler, Current Head of Schools

Our Mission: Past, Present, and Future Are One in the Same
The history of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is the history of God’s people faithfully following the call of the Lord to train up our children in the way they should go so as to raise up new generations of strong Christian leaders The Grammar Campus, born as Cornerstone Christian Academy, was initiated by members of the Catalina Foothills Church community to provide for the Christian education of their children and other families desiring a classical, Christian education. The motivation was the same when discussions began to form a school for older students, which led to the Upper Campus Some amazing individuals have led and served our campuses, and we are grateful to continue this strong tradition with Head of Schools, John Tyler Each of our leaders has shown a passion for Christ and investing in future generations of young people to serve the Kingdom.
The PRCA Board also feels this weighty calling, as it guides our work for the school, and on our upcoming Strategic Plan. The past four years have seen an accelerating cultural shift away from God and the truth of the Gospel, starting with the COVID-19 era and continuing into today’s tumultuous political climate. This has presented an incredible challenge to the school and our community at large. We must acknowledge that this shifting culture has, at times, impacted PRCA However, our community should know that we are absolutely committed to remaining steadfast in our mission, and to faithfully follow the Lord in our work True leadership requires accountability to ensure that outcomes are based on intentional work and that problems can be solved before they fester This is why we are publishing a formal plan for the first time so that our community can see the roadmap that is being laid out to advance the Kingdom and ensure PRCA stays true to its original calling The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. - Proverbs 1:7
All for Christ and His Kingdom, Wesley Mehl, Governing Board Chair
CCA
Former PRCA Board Chair & Member
I enjoyed my time serving on both boards There are always ups and downs with any decision-making group The blessing is that everyone serving with me was a Christian, so we always knew we had that as a common foundation.
I am always encouraged and amazed at the sincere thoughtfulness and concern that my fellow members put into the decisions that guide our school. I consider myself fortunate to work with this amazing group of people. This is clearly God’s school, and I love to see how He blesses it each day.
Pusch Ridge has been more of a blessing to us than anything else. When I look back at the things that have excited me over the last 25 years, it’s seeing the impact on families and seeing the unbelievable people that God has brought together as staff and faculty and how they love the kids and teach Biblical truth

I accepted this position as a sacred honor, knowing that founding families had come before me, having set the foundations of a wonderful school. My favorite part of serving in those years was meeting and building relationships with new families. I enjoyed explaining our unique mission as a covenant community and encouraging families to use their God-given talents to serve our community.
Watching CCA become a wonderful, growing school in those first few years is one of my favorite memories It was obviously a work of God and not our doing as we were very inexperienced Most of us had children in the school at that time and it was a joy to watch them thrive.
Our founders established that Pusch Ridge Christian Academy would be covenantal, classical, and Christian As noted in the first Cornerstone Yearbook, "covenantal refers to the community the school serves, consisting of believing parents and their children." The term "classical" refers to the curriculum, a methodology rooted in a rich Christian cultural heritage and emphasizing the humanities in their fullness Key elements of this approach include principles of discipleship, biblical integration, a Christian worldview, and active involvement from the home. Every PRCA administrator, teacher, and staff member plays a vital role in pursuing and achieving PRCA's core commitments
Before establishing our Portrait of a Graduate, the Seven Pillars of Pusch Ridge emphasized: Perseverance, Courage, Discipline, Responsibility, Integrity, Justice, and Encouragement.
These virtues were embedded in all aspects of PRCA, beginning in 2001 Teachers incorporated them into lessons and modeled them for students, and students were encouraged to develop in each area.
Our Statements of Faith and Christian Principles detail who we are and what we believe:
In 2019, PRCA adopted its Portrait of a Graduate, a guiding document outlining our vision of what it means to be a successful student and growing follower of Christ. As our students gain knowledge and wisdom, we desire for their hearts to become more like Christ, living as SERVANT LEADERS, JUSTICE KEEPERS, VIRTUOUS STEWARDS, TRUTH SEEKERS, and COURAGEOUS CHRISTIANS

The original Cornerstone logo, designed by Shawna Brown Kugler shortly after the foundation of the school, is rich in symbolism The cross reminds us of our Scottish Presbyterian roots, symbolizing faith, with the triple scallops on its ends representing the Trinity The growth and flourishing of our students is reflected in the vine and flower, and the letter C, in Papyrus font, symbolizes our commitment to history, grounding the logo in tradition. This blend of symbolism, growth, and historical commitment created a meaningful emblem for the school.
Russ Chancellor designed the original PRCA mascot, drawn as a black and white lion and used on diplomas, transcripts, and academic profiles
Cornerstone Christian Academy exists as a covenant school to partner with the Christian home in discipling covenant children in their relationship with Christ and the Scriptures, to expose them to a unified and Biblically Reformational worldview, and to foster a Spirit-given willingness to express dominion and service over all of life and learning, and a classical school to equip our students with the tools necessary to pursue a lifetime of learning, exposing them to the best in “living” books and ideas from our western Chrisitan heritage
OriginalCCAMissionStatement,1998
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy exists to glorify God by edifying young men and women in their personal commitment to Jesus Christ [and] to prepare them academically, socially, physically, and emotionally to live out their faith as servant leaders in every area of society
OriginalPRCAMissionStatement,2000
Cornerstone Christian Academy and Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, a covenantal Christian school system, exist to glorify God and to partner with the Christian home in discipling young men and women in their relationships with Christ and the scriptures, unfolding to them a unified and biblical world and lifeview, equipping them with the tools necessary to pursue a lifestyle and love of learning, exposing them to the classical ideas from our Western cultural heritage, and challenging them to pursue academic excellence
K-12CatalinaFoothillsChurchSchoolsMissionStatement,2009
The mission of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is to teach our students to become like Christ through a classical, Christian education within a covenantal community.
PRCAMission,2015-Present
15, when our two campuses merged to become Ridge Christian Academy, a new logo was missioned and designed by Tomlinson eting & Design Their task to create a logo a classic navy color and a lion that was regal non-threatening, but not wimpy” was fulfilled ave us the lion we currently use as a visual sentation of PRCA for fostering school spirit, and in all areas of school branding
The essence of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is deeply rooted in personal connection and community It's about going beyond academic instruction building relationships, showing care, and encouraging students in both their academic and personal lives The heart of our school is what creates an environment where students feel supported, understood, and motivated to grow - not just in knowledge, but in their individual lives and, most importantly, in their personal walks with Jesus. This sense of community and dedication to student well-being is central to PRCA’s mission.
At PRCA, the teachers and staff want to allow the students to excel by using their God-given gifts and talents They want to mold young adults who think biblically and critically about the world in which they are in They want to challenge them to live counter-culturally and stand for the truth in the middle of a world selling lies.

Everything I poured into my students in the classroom – to observe and care for God's creation, be a lifelong learner, and love God by loving your neighbor – God was also pouring into my heart
Stacy Bade, Former Teacher
We chose PRCA because of its excellent academic education and Christian worldview, but we stayed all of those years because of the commitment of the faculty and staff to the betterment of our children, the small class sizes, the fabulous friendships our kids have made, the greater school community, and the wonderful enrichment and extracurricular activities
Former Parent
The beauty of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is that all of us, parents, faculty, and administration, are yoked together, mentoring our students in the same direction. Our simple yet profound mission statement guides us as we come alongside our students, endeavoring to help them become the Christian leaders of the future.
Lisa Wood, Current Teacher
I've never experienced such a loving learning environment where the teachers & administrators truly care for every student. Their loving care extends beyond the typical school day and classroom...teachers and administrators greet the kids as they are dropped off & picked up curbside and as they enter classrooms, with smiling faces & words of encouragement They get to know our children and help them succeed
Current Parent
I never felt more welcomed, never felt more desire to be a better teacher or a stronger Christian, or to learn more about the Word and apply it
Phil Coleman, Current Teacher
Not a single day did we have to worry whether they were in the right place, whether their teachers loved them and had their best interest in mind, or whether the curriculum honored God.
Current & Alumni Parent
I love my students, and I pray for them. I help to plant the seeds of courage, humility, servant leadership, stewardship, and justice. I watch them grow from third graders to young adults and beyond and cheer them on as they fulfill God’s plan for their lives and bear fruit.
Tiffany Leon, Current Teacher & Parent

For decades, PRCA teams have rallied around the phrase "For Him!" as they break from team huddles, a tradition that carries deep meaning within the school’s athletic culture This phrase, believed to have been coined by Thomas Armour, PRCA’s first Athletic Director who transitioned from Palo Verde Christian School, serves as a powerful reminder that all glory is due to our Father in Heaven Armour’s legacy lives on through this enduring tradition, reminding athletes that their efforts, both on and off the field or court, are dedicated to a higher purpose beyond competition and personal achievement.

At the foundation of PRCA’s athletic programs lies Discipleship Coaching, designed with the mission of guiding studentathletes to strive toward the highest standard: Christ-likeness This program equips coaches with the tools and skills to incorporate a Biblical perspective into their mentorship, walking alongside student-athletes on both middle and high school teams Central to the program is the question, “How can God be honored through competition?” This philosophy, developed by longtime former Athletic Director Lonnie Tvrdy under the leadership of Dr Eric Abrams, continues to shape the athletic experience at PRCA, as it is refined and implemented to this day.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy has celebrated many memorable moments over the past 25 years Our student-athletes and their dedicated coaches have earned numerous individual and team accolades while also uniting in support through the challenges and disappointments of difficult losses or seasons Listed below are the High School Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) Team State Championships won by PRCA athletics In addition to these titles, many teams have also achieved region or state runner-up status. Marguerite and her husband, Paavo Ensio, were among the founders of Catalina Foothills Church, along with Pastor Mark and Norma Roessler
Shortly after CFC began, a vision emerged to establish a Christian school, and the Ensios played a pivotal role as key benefactors in launching both the Grammar and Upper Campuses Their legacy at PRCA is deeply personal, as twelve of their grandchildren have attended or graduated from the school Over the years, the Ensios have been a constant presence at PRCA events
Ed leaves a legacy of giving back Upon his retirement from the defense industry, Ed poured himself into a life of service and philanthropy, a tangible expression of his Christian faith, love of the Tucson community, and desire to be a servant leader Over the years, he was tirelessly active on many boards and committees, including time as a member of the PRCA School Board His grandson Matthew and granddaughter Olivia graduated from PRCA in 2015 and 2020, respectively
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy held its first graduation in 2001, sending 55 graduates out into the world Since that time, hundreds more have joined their ranks, attending a variety of colleges and pursuing diverse professions. Some of these alumni have come full circle, now returning as PRCA parents and teachers. Regardless of where life has taken them, all of our alumni remain a cherished and valued part of the PRCA community
Several of the original 27 students who attended CCA during its inaugural 1998-1999 school year went on to graduate from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy. Their journey was one of resilience and growth as they navigated the excitement of being part of a brand-new school, embraced the transitions and refinements along the way, and ultimately walked across the stage as graduates
When our alumni come back to visit, or share memories with us, we are reminded that the Lord’s work at PRCA is lifechanging Our lions carry memories with them that shape who they become and to Whom they belong We are honored to be a part of their story
Caitlin Fredlock Haines, class of 2010 says, “I will always remember how exciting the Shakespeare Festival was and the
excitement as we got older to be in more in-depth plays I was blessed with fabulous teachers throughout my entire time at Cornerstone, and every single one of them impacted me Miss Stuart was our teacher for second and third grade, and having her for two years certainly created a special bond with us. One hilarious memory is that our classroom had “pet” lizards we had caught in the desert, and we all took turns feeding crickets One week, a kid didn’t bring in crickets, and the biggest lizard ate the smaller lizards Miss Stuart coordinated a funeral for the lizards and informed us at our sixth-grade graduation that we had hummed the wedding march as our funeral dirge.”
Lauren Cooney Sommitz, class of 2008 and former PRCA Chemistry teacher remembers “the Shakespeare Festival! We did ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ the first year, and it sparked a lifelong love of acting and Shakespeare It’s so fun to see how it has grown and developed over the years I had several incredibly impactful teachers during my time at Pusch. In 5th grade, Miss Rich made learning so much fun, and I think a significant part of my teaching personality came from her She was always excited and enthusiastic and clearly showed us that she loved us and teaching Mrs Mackenzie was my chemistry teacher and inspired me to study and ultimately teach chemistry ”
Each year, seniors who also attended the Grammar Campus or CCA are invited back to campus just before graduation for a special tradition Known as the Legacy Lions, these students are honored during the morning ceremonies and then celebrated at a reception with their parents, teachers, and staff. This event serves as a meaningful way to recognize their long-standing connection to the PRCA community and to honor the legacy they have built throughout their time at the school.
Well done, Lions! You are paving the way for those following in your footsteps
Senior class gifts are a cherished tradition at PRCA, beginning in 2006 with the iconic bronze lion that warmly welcomes all who arrive on campus. This legacy continues with the latest addition of bronze roadrunners adorning the exterior of the new Multipurpose Room, a meaningful contribution from the class of 2024
One of the most significant pieces is the old rugged cross, which is over 100 years old and originally from Argentina We are grateful for the thoughtful contributions that not only enhance the beauty of our campus but also serve as lasting symbols of the legacy each graduating class leaves behind
