HEALTH CLUB - Design Studio VI Designing spaces inclined to both, mental and physical wellness of the body while being inclusive and neighbourhood friendly

The Site, located at Dharan-16, lies just beside the Dharan Stadium, and also is a part of the stadium which includes a outdoor volleyball court and a covered basketball hall, both of which, was not sufficient for the people using those facilities. The approach to the site gives a clear view of the chinde dada and so the design is based on visual hierarchy following the hills behind the site.

04 SCHOOL

- Design Studio IV A school, designed to accomodate 400 students from class 1 through 8 and accompanying teachers and staffs ,not only focusing on their classrooms, but also the ECAs and surroundings to help in holistic learning that aids in the students’ development both mentally and physically and also prompting healthier student-teacher relationship.

The site is located at Dharan-14, Pindeswor path, Bijaypur. Bijaypur has four major temples and have different paths reaching them and the site lies between those paths.This concept is reflected in the designing of the school.

Using pentagons shifting from regular rectangular forms

Multiple paths connect four major temples acting as nodes

Cluster organization of blocks

Taking a major route as major axis and other path as sub- sidiary with nodes in between Playing with mass and void Shifting blocks to break linearity

The site, being contoured, has allowed the design to be played with level differences.

Ideas like Pilotis and ramps are included in the design. Firslty, admin block is placed near entrance and parking which includes all the necessi- ties from reception, medical rooms, principals room etc and also includes classes one and two for better security and watchability of the children Then, a large library with open spaces represent- ing the vast minds of children.

After that, classes from three to eight are placed as academic block, including two laborataries and teachers room . Light well element covered by translucent glass is also placed in intersecting sides of two rooms.

ECAs and footbal field is also in proximity to the academic block buffered by w, and below the field is a auditorium hall. Boys and girls hostel are placed below the hall secluding those areas. At the lowes point is an OAT for mass gather- ings as well.

The canteen is placed strategical- ly to be in proximity of major gathering sites.

Measurements and cad planning done in groups during 3 year 1st part. A great learning opportunity in both, mapping and working in autocad

MODEL WORKS To me, model-making feels like drawing a puzzle and solving it to get a definite solution.

Working on different models including seniors thesis models with dense contours has also honed my understanding of working on contours and levels.
