NEIGHBORHOOD DESIGN VERO BEACH

Urban design project focussed on the development of a new neighborhood in Vero Beach. Conception for the site began with focus on waterfronts and amenities that can cater to all the residents and visitors. Two important considerations to proposal includes the treatement of the intersection of roads and the treatment of property along the waterfront sides. This site was developed keeping in mind local existence and vision for a place to serve their identity and celebrate their livelihood.

Hurricane Dorian destroyed major areas of Bahamas. This proposal concentrates on providing a hurricane proof living shelter and was executed with my studio partner. It concentrates on providing spaces for artisnal market alongwith performance center on ground level and hostel living on level two and three. The forms are an adaptation of informal settlements around the site.

Adjacency to the sea has played a major role in determining the form of the spaces around the site. This proposal addresses the sea level rise and hurricane proofing structure to adapt the local conditions.

VEHICULAR CIRCULATION + PARKING CONNECTING ROADS

Floor plan remains open on the ground level, where one migrates around the entire site through the various load bearing walls. Vehicular entry is restricted towards the eastern side of the site, so that it does not disturb the locals interaction & community engagement. Connections play a vital role within these buildings which is not just limited to vertical connection within a structure, but the interconnectivity of these structures to each other through the bridges. One tends to easily navigate through the ground level as the structure is not enclosed so that one can enjoy the various modulations on the upper floors.

Concrete envelops around the wooden framework on the inside. The interplay of the concrete and wood renders a hamonous display for the structure.

Exponentially outgrown city life accommodates less humanistic values & love for the nature. This proposal attempts to bridge a connection between the three realms â€“ Modern, Humane & Natural. Conscious efforts to glorify the concept of GROWTH by selecting variations in species, depicting the nature of growth beginning from raw until fully developed zones. As one moves vertically upward for residing in high rise, this proposal bring the greens along and foster a sense of community development. These neighborhood respond to the existing and the proposed.

Diagrammatic exercise that lays the foundation of the microhousing units. Principles, features & movements which captures the essence of small space living.

1111 is a classic example of growth, where it responds to the developing needs of the city by providing utilitarian spaces. This intervention aims at establishing new grounds for development which encompasses community living within the vertical urban park. Movements are derived through systems and growth is portrayed through rise. Interactions are captured, moments are harnessed and a beautiful journey is created.

Analyzing structure in all of its form, led me to the concept of Growth. Columns projecting in different direction signifies the theme. This growth is observed through various disciplines and across various chapters which involve light, structure & movement around it. The proposal glorifies growth in form of units merging with the existing and green landscape following vertically.

Microhousing units within each floors tend to function like small community spaces within the large framework of 1111. They have their own personal outdoor space and a common courtyard within the four unit structure.

Raymond Jungles on Lincoln road inspires the development for 1111 and the new development for microhousing. Units harmoniously blend in with the existing and render a beautiful creation.

A thorough understanding of the connectivity across site helped in laying out the various connections within the site. Number of entries, exits, connectivity, mode of transportation, parking and limiting the entrances to a particular set of people.

Road network played a vital role in determining the access routes to the site. Busy streets have to be understood and their dependency on other local activities. Planning of football stadium becomes a concern of of urban planning rather than just architecture. R O A D

Existing football grounds have minimal arragements to hold world-class matches. This proposal addresses the issue faced by the existing conditions and proposes a fully-functional stadium to host world cups.

Laying out the various activity zones, understanding their activities and dependencies helped to organize the functions in the various sections of the building. Denser areas given high priority and ease of access through such a refined and planned layout.

All the levels of football stadium are planned according to FIFA guidelines, keeping in mind the circulation and ease on the functionality of the stadium. Every corner of the floor plate is important and have been carefuly planned to fit the program. Inter connectivity between the zones is another important aspect in laying out the zones. Parking in basement played a major role in generating the revenue for the location during off-season. Adequate measures which satisfy sustainability measures and promote local context has been taken into consideration.

In the outskirts of Mumbai city, within the Vasai district, Adya Shankaracharya Temple serves as a famous landmark. The project concentrates on the proposal of pilgrimage center within the temple complex.

Site is close to the Nirmal river which serves as an excellent resource in planning the different structures throughout the site. A peaceful setting has been added to pre-existing structures in the same language as witnessed within the complex.

Addition of commonly frequented places closer to the temple, where the inter connectivity is easy.

Places with more activity - leading to noise, has been set further away from the peaceful temple atmosphere and closer to the lake, where people gather and enjoy the view outside.

Residential units are closer to the temple, so that visitors who like to spend a lot of time in temple, can frequent the place. They can also enjoy the lake view.

Circumambulatory path around the Deity is known as Pradakshina path, i.e. making clockwise circles around it while doing “ P R A D A K S H I N A ” .

Units are planned in specific zones with consideration to climatic conditions i.e Worshiping places lies in the east to west direction and Activity and Residential zones are planned facing the western front. According to Hindu religion, it is performed to help unburden yourself of the baggage of stress, negative emotions and materialism with which you have walked in to the temple.

Sections are designed as an adptation to the circumambulatory path. Residences have provisions for step wells which adds to the peaceful atmosphere of the space.
