In the phase 1 of the project, the Schoen’s Batwing minimal surface was explored as the base unit. the base unit was built in a cube, with control points based on one face of the cube. Since base form is built by mirroring one single surface (made on one of the cube’s faces) along radial planes, changing any parameter will result in uniform change throughout. Some of the iterations are graphically depicted above.

COMPOSITE HYBRIDS
Aggregation through a sustainable feedback loop process of salt farming using salt as a recyclable raw material for construction. Specifically applied in creating the base precast panels and in the salt paste/mixture utilised in the 3d printing process. As the pods aggregates, the structures can evolve to address different functions and accommodate various base forms to suit different terrain (slope) conditions.

Privacy and accessibility on site considered for placement of different functional blocks. 3. Positive views and movement of sun during the day considered. 4. 80% of the overall area taken, dividing the land into three for Outpatient-dept and Diagnostics, Emergency and operational suite and finally inpatient and services, derived up carefully going through 1,2,3.

5. Blocks are further divided to reduce long connecting corridors and create free movement by planning the space according to grid pattern. These blocks are extruded according to area requirement of each space. 6. Weaving in green spaces and open spaces to facilitate better movement within blocks and to create breathable pockets within the building mass. This reduces the overall land coverage to 60%
8.
Experimental sectional illustrations demonstrating connectivity between different blocks/departments by introducing pedestrian bridges, placemaking through introduction of open air theatres and seating, optimal daylight illumination through carefully designed and placed openings, regular of excessive daylight through parametric facade system, placemaking through exploration of daylighting, introduction of different scales and privacy levels of green spaces to make the hospital environment more breathable and therapautic.

St a g e 2 : Ite r a tio n The parameters of modelled milkweed seedpod are combined with parameters of another natural artefact such a muscle strand (developed by my teammate Yuxiao Wang, Usyd) to develop fashionable clothing item such as a shoulder wrap and arm band.

6. Generated diamond panels, using locally defined uv values, using Triangle/Diamond panels. Degenerated the Brep, evaluated the surface to get points on the surface and normals of those points. 7. Scaled the diamond panels using edges obtained by Brep, polylines used to create sub panels. 8. Subpanels rotated rotated along the center of the subpanels. 9. Lofted subpanels
10. Generated small spokes, by rebuilding surface from the evaluated points, used point deform for the geometry 11. Generated texture on the seed pod, used surface attractor with a predefined value on Rhino, to identify points on seed pod closest to the surface attractor. Reversed the list, culled the values lesser than a specific range. Used variable pipe to generate the final geometry. 12. Generated lines using diamond panel normals, and length controlled by surface attractor.
13. generated variable pipes along the lines, degenerated the brep, rotated the edges with a certain count and angle. 14. Piped the lines to create the final geometry for the spokes. 15. Similarly, created lines from the end points of the spokes, used variable pipes to generate the curve for the seed geometry. Generated another brep with variable pipe, degenerated it to obtain edge curves, lofted the two different edge curves to get the seed geometry.
WITHIN & OUT
1. Generate a circle, with a predefined point on Rhino and with a given radius. 2. Move the circle along Z axis, with a series count and number of steps 3. Non-uniformly scaled with x=y values, generated the area and centroids of the geometry. 4. Uniformly scaled, based on Sine curve. 5. Evaluated curves along the geometry, interpolated curves and created a surface using revolution surface.
