FORM OPTIMIZATION, ,MORPHOLOGY, AND ORIENTATION Inspired by the industrial site, the design boasts a perfectly rectangular volume with minimal exposed surface area.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The space serves as a versatile recreation and exhibition zone, including a cafe and spill-out areas for students, usable throughout the year, even in summer.

Fashion institute with an underbelly design.

The underbelly is thermally banked on all sides.

It features a ramp designed specifically for use during fashion shows.

The design of the underbelly is derived from traditional Baoli architecture.

The underbelly employs earth sheltering, thermal banking, and evaporative cooling techniques to regulate surrounding temperatures.

Ground floor serves as an informal area for student activities, with a café, ramp seating space, etc.

The site has limited potential for future expansion.

A central courtyard connects the library.

Functions are placed on different levels.

Less adaptable for significant changes.

There is a clearly defined access corridor.

The arrangement is inward-looking, organized, and rigid.

FEATURES

1. Evaporative Cooling: - Building raised above the ground, forming a thermal sink.

- Water bodies used for evaporative cooling.

- Underbelly serves as a microclimate generator.

2. Courtyards and Stepwells: - Self-shading courtyards to control solar ingress.

- Open stepped wells provide cooling.

- Abundant daylighting in studio spaces.

3. Daylighting and Ventilation: - Classrooms receive indirect light from courtyards.

- Singly-loaded corridors enable natural ventilation.

4. Insulation: - Traditional insulation using clay pots (mutkas).

- Gaps filled with sand and broken bricks.

- Provides effective thermal insulation.

5. Shading: - Double skin element (jaali) protects the building.

- Acts as a thermal buffer.

6. Landscaping: - Water body fed by recycled water.

- Evaporative cooling through green spaces and water bodies.

- Strategic placement for shaded areas.

MATERIALS

OBSERVATION

1. The entire structure is enclosed within four walls, indicating that it is a closed building and not an open campus.

2. There is landscaping inside the building, but it lacks the open spaces typically found on a campus.

3. The institution does not have hostel facilities within the campus premises, suggesting that it might be a day-school or the students live off-campus.

4. The building combines traditional architecture with contemporary design elements, creating a mix of old and modern styles.

5. The campus does not have an outdoor area (possibly "OAT" refers to an Open-Air Theater or an open space for large gatherings).
