Now, we’ve launched Philosophical Currents—an occasional Main Street essay and podcast that will discuss topical matters facing society.

To look back on the anniversary of the Souris/Mouse River flood

The Great American Folk Show is spending the summer in Medora What’s better than The Great American Folk Show on the first Sunday of every month? Two every month! Host Tom Brosseau will be in Medora doing live, acoustic shows nightly at Town Square, and we’re capturing some of those performances for radio broadcast and a second monthly broadcast.

Listen for the usual fun from the show, plus unique recordings of the Medora Musical, Joe Wiegand’s Teddy Roosevelt show at Old Town Hall, The Gospel Brunch, and more. Bonus! Say hello to Tom Brosseau, Prairie Public staff, and Clifford the Big Red Dog July 31— Prairie Public Day in Medora.

Nearly 12,000 people had to be evacuated from Minot in June 2011 as the Souris River exceeded record flood levels—bringing devastation only anticipated in a 200500-year event. Main Street’s Ashley Thornberg is traveling to Minot in June to talk with displaced residents, the officials who had to make tough decisions, and city leaders who continue to lead the recovery.

The Tiny Desk Contest 2021 is in full swing

The rules are simple: Unsigned bands and musicians submit a video of themselves performing an original song at a desk of their choice. Contest winners have gone on to tour the world, sign with major labels, open for legendary performers, and even receive Grammy awards. The rest of us?

Elinor Wonders Why Appy Hour Wednesday, July 21, at 3 pm Some days are just meant for indoor play, and we’re giving away Elinor Wonders Why kits to encourage kids’ curiosity and interest in science on those days.

Each kit contains printed activities in English and Spanish, a free app reference guide, crayons, a ruler, and an Elinor Wonders Why magnifying glass—all packaged in a PBS KIDS drawstring tote bag!

Congratulations to all the young writers

More than 200 children in the Prairie Public broadcast area wrote and illustrated stories for the 2021 PBS Kids Writers Contest, and we think they’re all winners! Each child received a certificate of achievement, and teachers who helped their students to participate received a heavy stack of new books for their classroom libraries.
