Travel through America’s railroad history with Grammy-winning musician and storyteller David Holt. He’ll entertain us with the remarkable history of scenic tourist railroads— from the luxurious trains that served up spectacular meals and breathtaking views, to the fastpaced trains that attracted travelers seeking glitz and glamour.

More than just a television tour, these stories capture railroads as they defined the spirit of North America, creating a new industry and rewriting transportation history.

Trains Around North America airs Tuesday, August 14, at 8:00 p.m. (CT).

Where grown-ups keep growing We’re in the midst of an age boom and with it, an amazing transition. In general, those of us over the age of 50 are expected to live longer than any previous generation.

We’re in the process of creating a new life stage that lies somewhere between young adulthood and “old-old” adulthood.

This stage doesn’t have a name. We call it Adult Part 2.

Public media offers gavel-to-gavel coverage of the 2012 National Political Conventions Expanded online coverage provides an “all-access pass” to the GOP and Democratic conventions Long known for providing the most complete coverage of the national political conventions, PBS, NPR, and Prairie Public are going to even greater lengths to give us a first-hand look at the 2012 party conventions.

On television, political journalists Judy Woodruff and Gwen Ifill (pictured) will coanchor gavel-to-gavel broadcast coverage at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida (August 27–30), and from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina (September 4–5), as well as the Bank of America Stadium (September 6). Television’s special broadcast coverage will begin at 7:00 p.m. (CT) each night of the conventions and continue LIVE until the conclusion of the proceedings at approximately 10:00 p.m. (CT).

On radio, Prairie Public’s news team and NPR will report daily during news programming about all the proceedings.

Radio’s emphasis on exploring issues indepth and connecting with real voters extends to npr.org where the coverage and analysis continues around the clock.
