Teacher Workshop Tuesday, June 24, noon-8 pm, and Wednesday, June 25, 8 am-4 pm Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota Prairie Public is offering a two-day institute for PreK-12 teachers interested in integrating regional arts, history, science and culture into classroom curricula. In addition, a trainer from the Anti-Defamation League will present a multimedia Holocaust education program developed by the Anti-Defamation League, USC Shoah Foundation, and Yad Vashem.

Attendees will receive all lesson plans, PowerPoints, and handouts presented at the institute, and those who write and submit an approved, media-rich lesson plan may apply for a $100 stipend for attending and participating in the institute.

Attendees may register for one professional graduate credit from North Dakota State University, Fargo, or University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. Continuing education units will be available for Minnesota teachers.

Mohn to head NPR NPR has announced that the board has selected Jarl Mohn to serve as the organization’s next president and chief executive officer. In the announcement, NPR Board Chair Kit Jensen said “Jarl has a deep commitment to the public radio system, love of radio, passion for quality journalism and strong track record on diversity and fairness.

With his keen ability to identify media and consumer trends, we have great confidence he will lead us on our continuing path of sustained achievement and growth.”

Mohn has had a lifelong career in media.

He was the founding president and chief executive officer of Liberty Digital, and he created E! Entertainment Television. He was general manager of MTV and VH1 from 1986 to 1990. Most recently, he has served as a board member and chair of Southern California Public Radio and is a corporate director and advisor to a number of media companies, making

direct early stage investments in digital media/ technology ventures. He began his career as a disc jockey in 1967.

Mohn has also been on the board of councilors of the USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism for nearly a decade. He is a generous philanthropist, and he and his wife Pamela created The Mohn Family Foundation in 2000.

“This is not a job for me,” said Mohn. “It is a mission. I love public radio and NPR. It is a national treasure and more important now than ever. I want to make sure the staff of NPR, the Member Stations and the others who make it happen have everything they need to do their best work.” Mohn will begin work on July 1.

Many of our members remember Dennis Falk, who was Prairie Public’s general manager from 1971 until his death in 1993. His contributions made a huge impact on the organization and on North Dakota.

Falk took a major leadership position in forming the North Dakota Telecommunications Council, and he received the North Dakota Broadcasting Association’s highest honor, the Pioneer Award, for his role in building our statewide television and radio network. The National Association of Public

Television Stations honored Falk for his grassroots lobbying on behalf of public television, and he was named public television’s “Manager of the Year” by the PBS board of directors.

Dennis Falk’s accomplishments in the public broadcasting industry are entered into the North Dakota Congressional Record.
