Welcome to the Herd Builder Speckle Park Top 10 Sale, held Thursday June 14th prior to the CSPA AGM right here in Ontario. 7 reputable & established Ontario breeders contribute their BEST Ontario prefix registered Speckle Park females.

The agricultural climate in Ontario is unique and affects the way in which we raise Speckle Park stock: • Major field crops include corn, soybeans and alfalfa forage • There are approx. 19,000 beef farms and 4200 dairy farms • There are approx. 236,000 beef cows in Ontario • Prime Ag land values are currently between $25,000 - $35,000 an acre • Province has one of the highest costs of beef production with very little grazing land remaining • Province population is 14.28 million and growing at a rapid rate close to 6%/year There are currently 60 active Speckle Park breeders in Ontario (approximately); 50% are members of CSPA and breeding registered stock. Outside of Western Canada where the breed originated, Ontario is the most active Province, with regards to growth of the Speckle Park breed. Ontario producers have made significant investments in buying and transporting some of the best stock on offer in Western Canada. Ontario producers have made many trips to the west to tour herds and meet the great people behind the development of the Speckle Park breed. This has led to many great friendships as well as business partnerships.

Today, Ontario breed/develop their own Speckle Park and are able to compete with some of the best in the breed. The quality from Ontario became evident on the big stage at Agribition 2017, where ON prefix cattle took home Junior Champion Bull and Junior Champion Female. At the 2017 National Agribition Sale, the high selling embryo Lot came off an ON-prefix bull. These are all things to be proud of, however, as a group of Ontario breeders we feel we can continue to improve and compete – even with much lower breed stocking rates/farm.

We ask for continued support from our fellow breeders in Western Canada, as we make effort to expand our markets into Quebec, the East Coast and New York State.

The Herd Builder Speckle Park Top 10 Sale, will be the first of its kind for the CSPA AGM. We hope this starts a tradition of a provincial sale held in conjunction with the annual CSPA AGM – a chance to showcase elite provincial stock and adds a direct commerce element to the AGM annually.

This year’s sale is being hosted by Underhill SPECS in Alma, Ontario. The sale will be held in the back pasture complete with a swim pond, historic log cabin and lots of greenspace.

TERMS: Payment of the sale price shall be made in cash, cheque, debit or credit card with proper I.D. in hand (an additional fee is charged on credit card payments).

Animals shall not be released to the buyer until satisfactory settlement has been made in full, including all order buys. All monies are in Canadian funds.

BIDS/DISPUTES: The Auctioneer shall accept all bids, other than those considered to be irresponsible, and the bidder offering the highest bid shall be the buyer. In case of dispute as to the successful bidder, the animal shall again be put up for advance bids, and if there are no advance bids the animal shall be sold to the bidder from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid.

The auctioneer’s decision in such a matter will be final.

HEALTH GUARANTEES: All sale animals are vaccinated, with heifers and cows preg checked via professional veterinarian.

REPRODUCTIVE GUARANTEES: All sale females are being sold as reproductively sound for breeding.

Consignors fully stand behind their heifer calves and proven cows.

Most females will be short bred to the listed bulls, but consignors will take the females home and ensure they are bred to that breeding by veterinarian confirmation. Holding the females and vet confirmation will be at the sole cost to the consignor. Once confirmed, the female will be shipped immediately to the buyer.

RISK: Animal errors noted in the catalogue will be announced from the Auctioneer’s stand.

Any announcements from the Auctioneer’s stand will take precedence over any matter in the catalogue.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: All registered animals will carry papers issued by the Canadian Speckle Park Association (CSPA).

After full payment has been received and cleared the seller will transfer papers to the buyer at no cost to the buyer. If you are a new buyer of registered Speckle Park, please contact CSPA to become a member.

LIABILITIES: All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The facility owner, sellers and sale manager assume no liability legal or otherwise for any personal injury while attending the sale.

WARRANTIES: The seller warrants clear title to and the right to sell each animal offered for sale. David Carson Farms & Auction Services Ltd. acts as the sellers’ agent only and is not personally responsible for any warranties, guarantees or representations made bona fide reliance upon information provided by the consignor. The consignor is responsible for all warranties, guarantees and representations.

Buyers have the option of checking their animals before loading, but once the animal is sold, it’s the buyer’s sole responsibility.

The female we selected to join these 2 bulls with is Watch Me 1E who can be viewed with All Out on sale day. She’s a modern 2017 model and was the 2017 Paris Fair Champion Heifer Calf. Watch Me comes from a mega maternal line and her Moo Fassa dam 26W is probably the only “untouchable” cow in our herd that will never be sold. Stack that with her maternal sire Codiak Big Mac and the relative offspring should be something very special. No further embryos on Watch Me will be offered in 2018 outside of this sale.
