First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your user name and password to continue.
2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity. 3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest. 4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In Most cases the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time the computer will declare the sale finished. 5. Following the sale the seller will invoice all buyers in the sale, please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases. DELIVERY
If purchased bulls are picked up on or before March 16th, $100 will be refunded on the purchase price. Free delivery is provided to buyers located within 300 km of the seller’s farm. Cost shared on distances farther then 300 km. Bulls purchased by American buyers will be delivered to the Canada-US border. Seller will have all export work completed but purchaser is responsible to cover those costs. Seller will keep bulls free of charge until May 1st. After that board will be charged at $4/per day. All bulls left at seller’s farm are done so at buyer’s risk. Buyer is strongly encouraged to purchase insurance on all bulls left at seller’s farm.

He is out of our best black cow family, having produced a number of our top bulls in past years. His sire is a Select Sire bull who is relatively new to Canada, and thus 312L will be an outcross to most herds. There is very limited Highlife semen in Canada and no more will be imported. Welcome to our 3rd annual “83 South Simmental bull Sale”. We are very appreciative of the interest and support we have received in the first 2 sales. We are again pleased to partner with Downey Farms, Bar O, and Lonestar, to bring you an outstanding, diverse set of bulls. Regardless of your needs or preferences, there will be something in this sale to interest you. Again this year the sale will be held on line with DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction. If you are not familiar with this process, full instructions are found in this catalog. We look forward to visiting with you at either of our Open House events or at the farm. If you would like any information on any of the sale bulls do not hesitate to call our sale consultant, Craig Davidson of Black Sand Cattle Company, or of course, any one of the consignors. Our bulls were not creep fed as calves. After weaning they were carefully introduced to grain in their ration, and then fed a moderate energy ration formulated with a target gain of three pounds per day, fine tuned to optimize growth as opposed to laying down fat. These two management decisions allow us to evaluate their true genetic potential, and will also promote their soundness and longevity as herd bulls. They are fully vaccinated as part of our comprehensive herd health program including their initial and booster Fusogard (foot rot) vaccination, and have been given a rumen magnet. They are tie broke and quiet. Pictures were taken in the late December, and Videos which were done mid February will be attached to the online catalog on DLMS.

Back in the early spring of ’22 we made the note that our Commercial Herdbulls made it out and into our pen of early calving red cows one night. It was early enough we thought nothing of it until mid-November when we had a couple cows begin to bag then calf out on pasture. Thankfully we didn’t lose any (just the tips off some ears only) and they turned out quite alright! This big fella is mothered by one of the best cows we have. She is the type you’d wish to have an entire herd of. A fantastic mother, big framed, easy doing and extremely fertile (The calf before this was born Jan. 3rd, 2022 and was supposed to be in the sale last year but didn’t make it due to a leg injury.). As for his pedigree on the top side, we would have DNA’d him but we have never pulled hair off of the Commercial Bulls (big mistake). But either way they have always been purebred or Fullblood Simmental. At the end of the day, this is an extremely powerful individual with everything we want in a bull: size, length, hip, muscle and look. Bulls like this usually get overlooked, but when they are this good and when prices for top end calves are reaching new heights, how can you afford not to take a look here.

Here’s a bull the combines’ style, power and calving ease into quite the attractive package. One that I think will calve like a dream on heifers to boot! Just started out life with an 84 lb. birth weight, then just grow, grow, grow. This guy has been closer development wise to the November bull than any other. But a lot has to be attributed to the awesome pedigree he carries. MRL Legend combines many of the great bulls and cows of the MRL program. Bulls like Red Whiskey, Destination 91Y, To The Max make the first three sires. Then of course matrons like MRL 677Y, 493U and maybe the greatest MRL cow of all – 477U. So the top sides pretty stacked – so how about the bottom? Donor mother Downey 463B is the most flawlessly built cow we raised and owned. Her father is the greatest bull we made – Downey 225Z (a calving ease and power bull option) and her dam (a Fullblood model) cranked out some great calves in her day. Many of her sons were retained for our commercial herd. All in all on the bottom side his mother and grandmother were both first calver projects, and even more great bulls like OLF Odin U5, Springcreek Liner 56U, Three Sixes, and Ellingson’s Legacy. And take a look at his EPD’s! Top 20% WW and YW – Milk 35% - MCE a strong top 30% - awesome top 20% MWWT – and better than average carcass traits in most categories. New for 2024 is the return of Virgin Two-Year Old Bulls. We for a number of years only sold extra age bulls as we feel that they are the most bang for your buck; both literally and figuratively. 4 of the 5 bulls on offer are virgin, while 1 (Downey 2249K) was used on our heifers. We plan to sell both yearling and extra age bulls down the road. With that these bulls are not leftovers or decision deferred, but rather later born animals that we are intentionally keeping back. I think the picture says it all; this is a darn good bull. Absolutely one of the best bulls we’ve brought to town . He reminds us a lot of his sire MRL Legend 20H. I have to say, I’m quite surprised Mom and Dad are letting this one go. The youngest in this powerful group of two year old bulls, but that won’t stop him. This is the squarest and thickest bull of the bunch with a tremendous back quarter.
