Hi everyone, Again we take great pleasure in inviting you to join us at the 16th annual Allencroft/Border Butte Black Angus Bull sale, March 17th 2016.It doesn’t seem like almost a year has passed but like they say time flies when your busy. 2015 was definitely a year with its challenges one way or another.

The cattle market hit historic highs and even though it has settled down some there is still lots of optimism the cow calf market will be profitable for a number of years to come. Early bull sales through December have maintained exceptionally good averages.

The Quality of the bulls we are offering this year has far exceeded our expectations. Tremendous performance, extremely well muscled, structurally correct and balanced off with great maternal traits. As always the bulls will be semen tested and ultrasound measured, all pertinent information not in the catalogue will be listed on a supplemental sheet sale day.

We would be very happy to give anyone a tour of the bulls at home up to March 15th, after which time they will be moved to Medicine Hat Feeding Co. Last year we added online video and online bidding to the program which we will be doing again this year through DVAuction under the very capable hands of Sarah Buchanan. So if you can’t make the sale please sign in with DVAuction a couple of days ahead of the sale so you can bid from the comfort of your home or where ever you happen to be at the time.

Musgrave Black Loch was a featured Foundation son we purchased at Musgraves 2014 bull sale. He is a heavy muscled calving ease sire that offers an outcross pedigree to Final Answer and In Focus. Wide based and square hipped, Black Loch is sound and athletic with great hoof shape. His predictable pedigree supports his good scrotal development, large capacity, and phenotype. He is a strong topped 6.3 frame with extra bone and strong maternal strengths. His carcass traits were a bonus with a 6.17IMF and 15” ribeye. Black Loch has followed the path of Pilgrim in calving easy with vigorous calves, that start out small but don’t lack in growth.

Foundation has been used for 3 years now offering tremendous growth and eye appeal while combining some great maternal traits that we are seeing in his first calving daughters. Coupled with a real nice temperament it has been an easy choice to use this powerful bull as well as investing in 2 of his sons when we had the chance.

Reference Sires

We purchase Pilgrim in 2013 from Musgrave Angus in Illinois. A long way travelled to source some genetics we couldn’t find elsewhere. The herd was toured and a strong set of bulls were sorted through. Pilgrim offered what we were looking for a fresh genetic package that wasn’t readily available up here with all of the traits we require. He was a calving ease trait bull with a 72 lbs birth weight with a nice performance package and boasted a 17.2 in adjusted ribeye. Used heavily on the heifer calves he proved to be very successful. Calves are born to quick to even catch at 2 hour interval checks they are already out, up and nursing.

This is a special year for Allencroft Angus. The Allencroft herd name came to be 50 years ago after the purchase of a purebred heifer calf for my 4H project. We have had our ups and downs, made our share of mistakes through this time but have never wavered in the belief that Angus is the greatest all around beef breed in the world. We were honoured to receive the heritage award for 50 years of continuous Angus breeding at the last Canadian Angus annual meeting. So to celebrate this once in a lifetime achievement we are going to have a buyers draw actually 5 draws of $1000.00 each for anyone buying Allencroft breeding stock at the Chinook female sale last October & the bull sale this spring. The draw will be at the conclusion of the sale March 17.

Apart from that I fully believe that we have probably the strongest offering of bulls to date and I think you will agree when you have the chance to look them over. Both heavy performance bulls and heifer bulls are on offer feel free to call or visit anytime.

The bull pen as always boasts a set of Angus bulls with length, muscle, hair, bone and calving ability that is a must. A variety of fresh genetics are available that accompish the basic needs of your operation as well as ultrasound data.

2016 begins with some turmoil in all aspects of agriculture, from the controversial NDP Government to the weak Canadian Dollar. While cattle prices have softened it is still nice to see them strong. We have been put to the test for many years; from the onset of BSE years ago droughts, floods and we fought back making the right choices and forging on. So I have no doubt that as a strong group we will be heard and we will prevail. After all we have no choice but to, as this is “what we do”.

That is what we have done in our herd, we sought out the strongest set of herd sires possible, both A.I and Natural breeders. We are bringing to town what we put our “all” into. We pride ourselves on our cowherd being carefully designed through stringent cull practices, to offer good feet, udders, composition, coupled with longevity and productive females and powerful dependable males.

Our efforts were rewarded in December when we exhibited the Reserve Champ. Pen of Purebred Commercial Open Females at the 2015 Medicine Hat Pen Show. This feels like a reward for the many miles endured in search for the herd changing bulls we have acquired or utilized through A.I. As always the bull calves graze near home at the base of the Sweetgrass Hills, where travel is a must and they needed to travel a little further for grass this year as compared to the past few due to lack of moisture.

The females were put to the test all sent to the One Four Grazing Reserve where they came back in great shape, and quite possibly our strongest set of females to date.

As always we have put in footnotes to explain each bulls strongest qualities but in the words of a wise man I know “Just come look”.

Guarantee: Bulls are semen tested and evaluated. Bulls that fail to be satisfactory breeders will be replaced or credit given on purchases or replacement from the seller.

They should be returned to the consignor in good condition and properly cared for so they can be re-evaluated. Consignors are responsible only to the purchase price of the bull in question. Each animal becomes the responsibility of the purchaser at the fall of the hammer.

In traveling to Illinois in the search of a new genetics we came across a herd of cattle that really excited us. In particular the genetics of the Bala Bell 577 and Blackcap 070-4132. These bloodlines run deep in the Musgrave Herd and have contributed to a lot of their success through their cattle sales. We spent many days making many calls getting these embryos imported to Canada and were hoping to gain some females in the process, we did however the bulls outweighted the females. We are retaining one Bando 1961 son. And are offering 2 others of equal quality to the bull we are retaining. The 3 bulls from Blackcap 070 are real easy to find in the pen and offer the profile of their fabulous mom. We unfortunately never got any females and will not be retaining any sons due to the amount of Boulder and Foundation use we have in the herd. These calves have not disappointed and were worth all the work to get them here. So this is your opportunity to gather some of the great genetics we have traveled miles to find over the years.
