Like all the events that the Left Hand Brewery Foundation puts on, the Hops and Handrails event raised money for nonprofit organizations, including SOS Outreach. “It says a lot that an event that’s about giving back to the community was voted best local outdoor event,” said Ashley Vander Meeden, media manager.

The event was the best of Colorado; over 60 craft beers, music and winter sports. The 6th annual event was held March 24-25 and this was the first year it was a two-day event. The second day was for families. “We had this 40-foot snowboard ramp that we turned into a sledding hill,” she said.

The secret to Mama Mead’s Pizzeria’s award winning deliciousness hails from New York. Owner Heather Gibbons, of Long Island, N.Y., said, “We make all our pizzas with love as if our family will be the ones eating it and they do!”

Gibbons gave up corporate life to open a pizzeria with her son in 2009 and draws on recipes she savored as a child on the East Coast. She bakes her pizzas on a double deck stone, rather than the usual conveyor oven, and daily prepares hand-made dough.
