Having mastered wings from the day they opened, owners Debbie and Mike Blume have put that same attention into their burgers, sandwiches, pulled pork and other American classics to earn their fifth consecutive win for Best American Restaurant. Customers rave about these juicy flavorful burgers, says Blume. The secret is in the spice blend and how it’s prepared—add that to a toasted brioche or sesame seed bun and your mouth finds instant bliss. With 14 different homemade sauces and four dry rubs, Wing Shack has earned the award for the Best Wings in Longmont seven of the nine years they’ve been open. Top picks include Spicy Garlic, Buffalo Ranch and Traditional Hot Sauce. “Our wings are the closest thing you can find to the Anchor Bar wings, which is where the first wings were served,” says Mike Blume. The food is clearly a winner here, but superior customer service is also a priority at Wing Shack. “What make us different is the quality of our product and our customer service,” says Blume. “We are family owned and operated since 2011. “We are so grateful to our loyal customers,” said co-owner Caitlin Craumer. The family company opened the Starbuds Niwot location in November 2017 and the Longmont location on July 4, 2018. Whichever location you choose visit, their customers are always their top priority. They serve customers needs from medicinal purposes to recreational, though Craumer says the top three reasons they see people come in most for are help with sleep, pain and anxiety. “It’s been nice to see how cannabis can help with a lot of different problems,” Craumer said. Cancer patients use it for symptom management, there are a couple of pro-athletes that come in to help speed recovery, and then there’s the “average joe” who is able to sleep well for the first time in 30 years. “We moved here from the cannabis business and we want to help people. It’s not all about getting high,” she said. The bud-tenders spend a lot of individual time with customers on education, and their team is a huge part of this equation, she said. Since their locations are only six miles apart, she has bud-tenders who rotate between the two, so regulars always see a familiar friendly face. “We’re so excited to be here and (the customers) are so nice and so wonderful and that’s telling based on the awards that we won,” Craumer said.

Alpine Touring— where a person skis in the backcountry using downhill skis and skins on the bottom of the skis for the uphill climb— has become particularly popular. Burditt said people enjoy it so they aren’t spending thousands of dollars on ski resort passes and they can learn how to get started at his shop. He and Kazee started tuning skis in 2015 and moved into their current location in 2017. “Our rentals have been really good this year,” he said. In the summer, they dabble in rock climbing, paddle boarding and mountain bike gear.
