BEST PET BOARDING SERVICE and BEST PET DAYCARE and BEST PET GROOMER

Happy Hounds Dog Care Center

1651 Skyway Dr., Longmont, (303) 774-8158, happyhoundscolorado.com

Happy Hounds Dog Care Center owners, Olivia and Brian Neill prioritize the health and happiness of their clients’ dogs as they would their own, and it shows. Their service continually rates as the gold standard in doggy day care, proven by their recent expansion amid a very difficult time to remain in business, let alone grow. “We moved to a brand new 10,000 square foot facility this May—designed by us, for our business needs. The space has four large indoor/outdoor play yards all with brand new turf tiles, dog play pools, and playground equipment. Having the four yards also allows better grouping of the dogs for play, based on their personalties, age and play style,” Olivia explained. Their boarding service retains Happy Hounds commitment to keeping their overnight guests comfortable and happy in their own spaces, though there are now more of them. “We now have 71 suites which are used for both daycare breaks and overnight boarding,” Olivia said. Boarding is now separated into five different areas for noise control, while 10 luxury suites with TV and platform beds are still offered with calming music for all. Grooming services go from basics like a quick wash to deshedding treatments with add-ons like ear cleaning, tooth brushing and nail trimming, and make even the dirtiest dog gleam. “Our customers appreciate the personal side of what we do,” said Olivia. “It’s a true honor to us that our customers would take the time to vote for us ten years in a row!”

Fine dining in a casual setting: That’s what The Roost is known for. “In fine dining, the most important thing is just finding great product and then really simply preparing it,” said. Sean Gafner, co-owner. “People like to eat food that is fresh and makes you feel great for eating it.” From your first taste of an appetizer, you know it’s going to be great. A lengthy and surprising appetizer menu makes it easy to order a variety of plates to share among friends .The Roost’s menu is locally and sustainably sourced for a real “farm to fork” dining experience. Diners can eat well and feel good about it, knowing that their meal is supporting local agriculture. While the food is priority No. 1, plenty of open air dining, drinking and relaxing al fresco, overlooking downtown is extra appealing. “We love being downtown Longmont because the culture is so art forward and the people are amazing. There’s nowhere in the world we’d rather have a restaurant; it’s a pretty amazing place to sit on our rooftop during sunset with a local beer in your hand,” Gafner said. When a restaurant wins the same awards as long as Sushi Hana has, you can rest assured they deserve it. For the past 13 years, Sushi Hana has been known for delivering the highest quality sushi and Asian cuisine in town. When asked what customers love about his restaurant, owner Andrew Sun said, “Freshness, ambience, cleanliness and our friendly service. We have been here a long time, giving the same authentic Japanese touch.” Sun is also very particular about what he offers on his menu. “What I don’t know extremely well, I won’t do,” he said. “Why have a huge menu if you can’t do it all perfectly?” All fish is cold-water fish from the world over, with seasonal choices like white salmon, bluefin, wolf fish, giant clam, razor clam and codfish sperm. All condiments are served on ice, preserving and enhancing flavor, Sun said. Sushi Hana’s Master Sushi Chefs are highly trained in the art of sushi preparation with the highest-quality ingredients and fish. If sushi isn’t right for everyone in your group, Sushi Hana offers a variety of equally delicious Asian dishes, including Japanese ramen noodles, sesame chicken, mango shrimp, and papaya salad.

BEST BAR and BEST HIDDEN GEM and BEST NIGHT OUT

Quarters Bar+Arcade

475 Main St., Longmont, (303) 719-2550, quartersbarandarcade.com

Owners Emily and Luke Kunselman take pride in knowing they offer Longmont residents a unique entertainment option that won’t break the bank. Most arcade games cost a quarter, and a few up to a buck. “We offer something that no one else does. It’s a throwback of going to the arcade, but now, with a better drink menu” Luke said. Equipped with a high-tech wristband, the scanning technology activates the taps, and grants customers the ability to pour their own drinks. Thanks to RFID wristbands that keep track of each pour, there’s no need to wait at a crowded bar for busy waitstaff. “The wristbands keep track of every pour and each game played, then guests settle up their tab at the end,” Emily said. “Customers enjoy the uniqueness of this experience for those looking for a fun and inexpensive night out.” The constantly rotating drink menu means there’s always something new to try. With 20 taps in-house, the eclectic selection of suds satisfies many taste buds. This includes beer, wine, cider, and a hard seltzer or a choice cocktail that features locally owned distilleries. Quarters Bar+Arcade is thankful for the community’s support and looks forward to providing entertainment to Longmont for years to come.

Matt Alexander, owner of Georgia Boys BBQ, has devotedly stuck to his southern roots and that loyalty comes through in the food at Georgia Boys. “Our recipes are all original and inspired from growing up in the south, where love and hospitality are at the forefront of every dining experience,” said Alexander. “We make everything from scratch and fresh daily.” This commitment to quality carries over into the high standards by which they clean and maintain their restaurant. They continually make sure that their customers are safe and comfortable dining with them, or taking them home. That’s just part of that Southern Hospitality! BEST BREAKFAST/BRUNCH and BEST BURRITO and BEST PIE

Goodfella’s Diner

623 Ken Pratt Blvd., Longmont, (303) 485-7000, eatatgoodfellas.com

Winning three categories brings much gratitude to Jeff Price, Owner of Goodfellas. “With everything going on, I want to give a shout-out to our customers. We could not do this without them. We have such loyal customers and it has really helped us through these hard times.” This charming all-American diner serves breakfast all day. Some customers come in for breakfast, lunch and dinner, said Price. Besides loyal customers, Price said his outstanding staff helped bring this award home. Without a doubt, the most popular brunch item option, is the Jefe burger—topped with bacon, avocado, swiss, lettuce, onion, tomato and pickle. If you have not tried their oversized German pancake, at 15-inches around, just know that size matters. Winning best burrito is no surprise because it’s another sizeable tasty meal that fills the belly. “It’s packed with egg, potato, and choice of meat…topped with green chili.” What sets it apart from other burritos in town—its signature sausage gravy, Price said. No meal is complete until pie time. Price said the cream pies are crowd pleasers--with banana crème as the top seller. Although Price himself has a weakness for the pecan pie. “They are simple pies, but they are good. The crispness of the crust, filling and whip cream satisfies you after every meal.”

Your Butcher, Frank

Pistachio Café Bakery

Your Butcher, Frank is much more than a butcher. Though you can get a good cut of meat, sandwiches piled high with hearty, healthy ingredients on natural bread are their specialty. Variety is at the core of their service and selection. “We have a huge selection, not just the basic 10 meats and cheeses,” said owner Ron Lamb. “There are about 60 different items customers can choose from.” Sandwiches at Your Butcher, Frank incorporate high-end products, from low-salt, MSG-free meat to locally baked bread. And if it’s overwhelming, their friendly staff can help with questions on what to order. For excellent selection, service and healthy food that is sure to satisfy your palate, Your Butcher, Frank, is Longmont’s deli of choice.

What makes Pistachio Café Bakery stand out from the crowd? Pastry chefs that make it all from scratch. Perla Ruiz and sister Sandra Ruiz co-own the bakery. The sisters want customers to savor the deliciousness of fresh, never frozen baked goods. “Our customers can taste the difference from a simple chocolate croissant to a cheese Danish,” Perla Ruiz said. With no shortage of scrumptious treats, top faves include carrot cake and chocolate cake. No chocolate cake is complete without that middle layer of ganache—while their prized cream cheese frosting sends carrot cake connoisseurs into the fifth dimension. Winning the best dessert category fills the Ruiz family with gratitude. It’s been a tough year, Ruiz said—she thanks all customers for their continued business. “To be recognized, it’s amazing, especially at this time. We really appreciate that people know and appreciate what we do.”

Copper Sky Distillery

1115 Colorado Ave., Longmont, (720) 204-6064, copperskydistillery.com

One of the reasons Copper Sky Distillery was voted the best distillery in Longmont is because of the ethical leadership, excellent and cohesive team environment (and, of course, a superior product). Owner and founder, Mike Root, was inspired to start the distillery after his government service because he had been a bourbon and whiskey fan and wanted to merge his loves to start a new brand. When asked what it takes to start a distillery, Mike said, “Definitely a lot of time and energy, and definitely a good team. I really think this has been a big part of our success…if you have a good team that is good at what they do and you trust them at what they do, you definitely thrive…I lean heavily on my team…I think we’re the best distillery because of the staff and we make our customers feel a part of the process.” Come out and taste the difference: Tasting Room Hours— Wednesday 5-8 p.m. (Cigar Nights), Thursday and Friday, 4-10 p.m.; Saturday, 2-10 p.m. Second: Longtucky Spirits/Abbot & Wallace Distillery, 350 Terry St., Ste. 120 Longmont, (720) 545-2017, abbottandwallace.com

BEST HAPPY HOUR and BEST LUNCH and BEST RESTAURANT

Mike O’Shays Restaurant & Ale House

512 Main St., Longmont, (303) 772-0252, mikeoshays.com

“Our customers say we feel like a second home,” said Mike O’Shays Restaurant & Ale House proprietor Rueben Verplank. That homey-ambiance extends from the “great food, fun and family-friendly atmosphere and maybe most of all the fact that we get to know our customers,” he said. Four Mike O’Shays employees, including two chefs, have been getting to know Mike O’Shays customers and their taste buds for 20 years; last October the Main Street restaurant celebrated 40 years in business. As the longest-running restaurant in Longmont, Mike O’Shays is “doing the same thing we’ve always done – treating guests like family – while also doubling down this year with procedures to keep people safe and to give our customers a great experience,” Verplank said. The large patio and indoor distanced seating are favorites with the lunchtime crowd, and the full menu and specialty sandwiches are also still available for takeout and delivery. Lunch specials that draw in the crowds include New England clam chowder, fish and chips and the house black angus chuck O’Shays burger. A robust selection of beers from Ireland, along with carefully crafted mixed drinks and favorites from local distillers and breweries—many at prices that will make anyone smile— round out happy hour, made even happier with half-priced appetizers. And, of course, you’ll also want to stick around for the full meal experience at Longmont’s reigning Best Restaurant.

A little more than seven years ago, longtime Longmont residents Dan and Jean Ditslear opened 300 Suns Brewing with the dream of creating a place where all could gather over delicious craft beer. Since then, 300 Suns has steadily grown in popularity while staying true to those community-focused roots. In 2019, the couple partnered with Nate Say of Scratch Food Truck, whose craft-focused philosophy proved a natural fit, providing the brewery with a permanent kitchen and mouth-watering vittles to the tune of scratch-made burgers and Nashville hot chicken. Named as a nod to Colorado’s 300 days of sunshine, 300 Suns is exactly that--pure sunshine. Martini’s Bistro

Aime’s Love

Restaurants come and go – sadly, quite a bit, during the pandemic – but Martini’s Bistro remains one of Longmont’s favorite and enduring institutions, since it first opened in 1990. Sarah Morgan, the current owner, came to the restaurant in 2012 while initially studying animal medicine at CSU, but said that her part-time job at Martini’s blossomed into a full career. Morgan and her husband eventually made the decision to purchase the place, and they’ve worked hard to accentuate the atmosphere, as well as taking great steps to appeal to both existing and new customers during the days of COVID dining restrictions. Morgan said that the energetic and lively vibe of the place is part of what has given Martini’s its local reputation, with a familiar atmosphere and a charismatic staff. The dining and drinks are also without equal in Longmont, whether that be nearly a dozen varieties of martinis or an extensive wine selection.

BEST PIZZA

Rosalee’s Pizzeria

461 Main St., Longmont, (303) 485-5020 rosaleespizzeria.com

With live music, patio seating and a cool-vibe bar, “Roselee’s is a gathering place,” said James Ross, who co-owns Rosalee’s Pizzeria with his wife, Amy Ross. Counting six years in Longmont, Rosalee’s Pizzeria knows what the community craves: The White Pie with House Sausage is “garlicky, cheesy, creamy with rich ricotta and topped with our sausage,” Ross said. Rosalee’s Margherita Pie is likewise “a major favorite – hard to beat fresh basil, tangy plum tomato sauce and luscious pockets of fresh mozzarella.” And don’t skip the sausage knots of local lore – house sausage meatballs twisted in dough and dusted with two-year imported Parmesan Reggiano.

For seven and a half years, owner Jennifer Walter’s bakery and cafe has served the needs of both the celiac community and those who’ve joined the gluten-free revolution, offering a very popular array of breakfast, lunch and dessert items. “We’ve continued to grow each year, as we’re blessed to cater to a specific population with autoimmune disorders,” she said. “Our amazing customers carried us through the COVID period, and we thank them for that.” Walter said the business, which is in the process of rebranding as Love’s Gluten Free, is best known for its sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, bagels, sweets and pot pies – and can even do a gluten-free wedding cake.

Longmont Locations: 2130 Mountain View Ave., (303) 702-1111; 645 Ken Pratt Blvd. (303) 774-1441; eatsnarfs.com

1245 S. Hover St., Longmont, (303) 684-6455, chilis.com

While other national chains have come and gone in the past decade, Chili’s remains a steadfast local favorite in Longmont, especially among the lunch crowd. The very first Chili’s opened in Dallas in 1975 as an affordable Tex-Mex destination and the company now includes more than 1,600 locations around the world. Locally, the boneless buffalo chicken or quesadilla explosion salads, the southwest shrimp Caesar and of course the namesake Original Chili are still go-to items. The company prides itself on its community partnerships, including $70 million in support to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, plus a strong commitment to inclusivity and advancing women as managers and owners.

A hotspot in Boulder County since 1996, Snarf ’s Sandwiches is the perfect destination for finding and devouring the perfect sandwich. Favorites include the Classic Italian, Super Club, the secret menu’s Chicken Cordon Bleu and a drool-worthy vegetarian Artichoke and Feta. Sandwiches are topped with hand-sliced meats and/or vegetables as desired, including Snarf ’s signature giardiniera hot peppers, and served on fresh-baked white, wheat or gluten-free bread, with kids sizes available. They make sure each sandwich has the perfect proportion of ingredients as you snarf down your sandwich to the last bite.

AND Zoup

11169 E I-25 Frontage Rd., Firestone, (720) 689-2200, zoup.com

Firestone’s Zoup is the local chapter of a Northeast-based lunch chain slowly growing in Colorado, now including locations in Denver, Colorado Springs and Grand Junction. Local owner Robin Valois says the Firestone restaurant opened in December 2018 and, like many other Colorado businesses, he very much appreciates local patrons for keeping he and his staff afloat during 2020. “We are thankful for the support of our community, as that has helped us do very well, even during the pandemic,” he said. Zoup’s signature items include its lobster bisque and “Good, Really Good” chicken noodle soup, plus sandwiches, salads and specialty mac and cheese.

513 Main St., Longmont, (303) 772-5200, longmonttheatre.org

2351 Clover Basin Dr. Longmont (303) 774-1491 texasroadhouse.com

If steak is what you crave, sink your teeth into Texas Roadhouse. As a repeat winner, year after year, what sets them apart from everyone else is their passion for legendary food and legendary service. They cut every steak by hand in house, and inspect every steak after it is cut to ensure that only the best quality leaves the kitchen to end up on guests’ tables. Though steaks are their specialty, burgers, chicken, ribs and wings won’t disappoint either and families will love the large kid’s menu. They strive to do everything they can to be a big support to the community as they are locally owned and operated.

Now in their 60th year, The Longmont Theatre Company has certainly has its ups and downs. The fact that they’ve won this award yet again, even while their stage has remained dark for over a year, is a testament to how valued they are within the community. With hundreds of people across several different troupes, they offer up entertainment year-round as well as off-season opportunities for kids. Typically, LTC produces seven or more shows a year at the Longmont Performing Arts Center. Everything from Shakespeare to Simon, serious to silly, graces the stage at Longmont Theatre Company. The dedicated performers, backstage and office support as well as volunteers, miss bringing their craft to the community and eagerly await their return to the bright lights. The company dates back to 1982 in Columbus, Ohio, where a pair of Buffalo, New York natives decided to create their own rendition of the Frank’s Hot Sauce-flavored wings; BWW now includes more than 1,200 locations in spots as diverse as Panama, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. Like their Longmont location, however, you’ll still find a sports bar-themed atmosphere with traditional boneless or even cauliflower wings, in flavors ranging from mild to the ridiculously hot Wild sauce. Burgers, sandwiches, wraps and plenty of beer round out the menu.

“This is such an honor for us,” said Annie DeCoteau, owner. “We work hard to make sure every customer leaves the bakery satisfied and happy. This shows we are accomplishing that.” Rise Bakery is dedicated to quality rather than quantity, and they make sure their products showcase that. Bakers rise each bread for 18-24 hours to allow the natural fermentation to give the bread a soft, chewy and airy crumb. The bakery is family-run, which means that behind the handcrafted product is a family trying to make ends meet and provide jobs in the community. “We adore our staff, customers, and community. It’s what keeps us working hard each day,” DeCoteau said. Second: City Star Brewing, 321 Mountain Ave. Berthoud, (970) 532-7827 citystarbrewing.com

Barbed Wire Books

We all need to enter a world of escape now and then. Currently, that need might run a little deeper than usual, but no matter how fast you plow through books, Barbed Wire Books will help you find the next one—or dozen. Carrying both new and used books allows Barbed Wire Books to offer an eclectic collection of titles. It’s a bibliophile’s dream. Local and global authors populate the shelves, so whether you’re drawn to the newest bestseller, or a pre-loved paperback, the friendly staff can help you find it, even if it needs to be specially ordered. Owner Kathe Heinecken, thanks the Longmont community for their continued support saying, “Barbed Wire Books is so very special because of our wonderful customers and especially my incredible employees. They are the reason that this bookstore is so unique.”

When Snow White put the business plan together for SNOW Apparel, she decided to slow down the fashion train because she felt it could be done better. Most of her clothing is made in America and what is not made here, comes from countries that have fair labor laws. “Once we got open and people started to feel what an organic cotton top fit like on their body, they were like, ‘Oh my, I didn’t know stuff like this existed,’ ” White said. And as a woman, running a business for women, she knows where the pitfalls of shopping for clothing lie. She said that women want quality clothing, and don’t want to buy it online. E-commerce has the correct market plan for everything but women’s clothing, she said. Women know that a good fit is entirely individual. They need to try things on,see the color, and feel the fabric before making a purchase decision. SNOW Apparel gives women that shopping experience, while providing pieces that will undoubtedly stand the test of time.

Pepper’s Fireside Grille

Pepper’s Fireside Grille is all about the local community. The moment you walk through the door you become family. Owners, Janel and Ryan Elmore have been in the restaurant business for nearly two decades, but Pepper’s Fireside Grille is not only their best achievement, but it is a home away from home. Janel was thrilled to learn of this acknowledgement, “We couldn’t be more excited to be in the community…we are forever grateful for the support the community has shown during this pandemic and throughout the years. “We offer mainly American cuisine, including awesome burgers and sandwiches, but we stick to mostly fresh, from scratch menu items.” During the pandemic they continue to offer low-contact alternatives like expanded, spacious, outdoor patio seating and a touchless digital menu. Janel and Ryan can’t stress enough how much they appreciate their customers in the community they’ve come to know on a first name basis and their incredible staff who make everything possible.

With more than 50 years in the Golter family, and the help of a great team, as a top 50 US Teleflora shop, Longmont Florist has been brightening occasions in Longmont and across the globe. They guarantee the best, not only locally, but for any orders they transfer worldwide, which explains why they’ve won this award for 17 years straight. And who needs a reason? Flowers are always an appropriate gift or just the perfect pick-me-up to someone’s day. And while the beautiful flowers, gifts and plants are always special, fast friendly customer service and professional and artistic designs have always been the top figure in their equation for success. To better serve their customers they offer subscription services and have expanded their daily delivery area into Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, and Erie. Owners Lisa and Brad Golter, with son Nate, share credit for their success with their long-standing staff and customers, “We want to thank Longmont for supporting us and helping us to grow.”

This company does more than just brew some great beers. Staff members roast their own coffee and make their own pastries and baked goods. “We’re one of a handful of locations in the whole country that has a similar offering,” said owner Ron Yovich. Since the business doesn’t have its own restaurant, they also allow food orders to the neighboring restaurants to be delivered to their location. “We separate ourselves by trying to bring local ingredients as much as possible,” Yovich said. “The customers are the reason we’re here.” Which shows, since they get visitors from all over Colorado. Plants at The Flower Bin are specially grown at their greenhouses on the premises and at their growing range, “The Farm” in Platteville. Staff, most of whom have been at The ‘Bin more than 20 years, are always ready with a helping hand. “Our success is due to our team,” said owner Don Weakland And of course he thanks his customers who he said “appreciate our outstanding, locally grown plants and our expert staff who can help with any gardening questions. We have been in business for 50 years—our customers keep us going.”

King Soopers is perhaps the best known grocery store in Colorado and with good reason. There are 139 King Soopers in Colorado, and with consumer interest growing in organic foods, King Soopers has met that demand head on. In addition, they provide local produce when possible and encourage consumers to ‘go-green’ by discouraging the use of the plastic bags. King Soopers includes a pharmacy, deli, floral department and butcher as well as the usual canned or boxed goods found elsewhere. With their higher quality customer service, their wide selections of high quality produce and meats, King Soopers could not be beat this year as a consumer favorite. Ace might sell tools, hardware, paint and other supplies for your home, but people are the key to success. At Ace, its people are the most important element. Without their team, they wouldn’t have enjoyed the success that has led them to win this award year after year. Just ask owner Kirsten Pellicer, who has been working at the store with her parents since she was a teenager. “Locally and nationally, we’re known as the helpful place,” said Pellicer. “You can’t be helpful without the people who are out there everyday interacting with the customers and telling them how to do their projects. In 2014 she founded Flatirons. “We put our customers first...and advocate for their overall wellness. We offer all kinds of services, not just standard prescriptions. It’s about the birthday parties, the graduations, the warm cups of coffees on the back deck.” In 2021, those intentional lifestyle choices are being re-prioritized as people evaluate postpandemic life, and the real estate market is reflecting those changes. The flexibility that comes with being independently owned right here in Boulder County has allowed WK to pivot quickly within the unique market conditions real estate experiences every single day. “Thank you to everyone who voted us the best real estate company again - we’re beyond proud of each and every agent that makes WK Real Estate such an exceptional company.” Second: The Mayer Team Colorado/Compass, 606 Mountain View Ave., Longmont, (720) 204-6125, mayerteamcolorado.com Third:

Brown’s Shoe Fit Co.

Carly Mayer—Mayer Team Colorado/Compass

In 75 years, you learn a lot about keeping a business successful. The people at Brown’s Shoe Fit would know. They opened their Longmont doors in 1946 and they’ve been in the same spot ever since. “We are proud to serve Longmont, Boulder County and the surrounding areas for 75 years. We would like to sincerely thank our community for all of their continued supports— Thank you!” said Manager, Jason Wetzel. Brown’s sole goal is to get you into the perfect pair of shoes, and impress you as they do it. Wetzel said, “We want people to find what they are looking for, have an enjoyable experience while shopping, and have a knowledgeable and friendly staff available to help them.”

People instinctively feel that I’m working in their best interest, said Carly Mayer about what makes her so good at her job. She’s a problem solver and wants each of her clients to achieve their goals. “I just want to get the right home for them or sell it for what works best for them,” she said. “It’s not about me, it’s about them.” She feels deeply honored to receive this distinction because she loves the community that she lives in. Her company even supports a locallyowned business every month. She knows that people want to feel taken care of during a real estate transaction and that is what she loves establishing for her clients.
