There may be no more opportune time for kids to kick this crazy school year to the curb — and get outside for some muchneeded inspiration from the great outdoors. Here are are a variety of recreational and outdoor camps open for business this summer.

NEW SURPRISES EACH DAY

Longmont Recreation Services serves the community with three year-round and multiple seasonal facilities. With evolving, affordable recreation and leisure opportunities that encourage wellbeing and enhance the quality of life for people of all ages, popular kids programs are back in action this summer. Starting June 1 and running through August 6, Longmont Summer Day Camp mixes sports and outdoor activities, all modifi ed to meet COVID guidelines, for 5- to 13-year-olds, with family-friendly enroll-byday attendance options. SAILING IN A LANDLOCKED STATE

Did you know kids can learn to sail right here in Boulder County? ABLE To Sail Youth Empowerment Camp teaches sailing basics, alongside selfesteem building. Youngsters will explore parts of the boat, rigging, capsize recovery, boat handling, tacking, jibing, and points of sail. Each day is bookended with lessons on applying sailing concepts to navigating the stormy seas of youth, ultimately inspiring children to be their best selves. Four-day camps for ages 12 to 18 are held at Union Reservoir in Longmont, June through August, with a LGBTQ+ Camp running July 12-15. Abletosail.org.

TWO FOR CURIOUS CLIMBERS

Boulder’s ABC Kids Climbing Women’s Wilderness supports girls, women, and LGBTQ+ people in accessing their power and improving their health through connections to the outdoors and community. This means getting girls outside with strong leaders who can help spark their love and appreciation for nature, cultivate teamwork and collaboration, and support self confi dence. This summer, the Adventure Backpack and Climb camp challenges middle schoolers among the gorgeous Snowy Mountains and famous rock formations at Vedauwoo, Wyoming. Various courses are open to anyone who identifi es as girl, including cisgender and transgender girls, as well as a non-binary individuals who are comfortable in femaleidentifi ed spaces.
