In Loving Memory Lynette ‘Skeeter’ Aragon April 23, 1959 ~ Feb. 18, 2017 On Feb. 18, 2017, those who love Lynette “Skeeter” Aragon, lost her to our Lord and Savior. A lifetime resident of Cañon City, Lynette was born April 23, 1959, to Jack and Louise Aragon. She was a funloving, energetic person who was always willing to help whomever she could.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; two sisters, Gloria, Irene; and the love of her life, Rick Patrick.

Lynette is survived by her three sons, Curtis, Lynette Aragon Joe (Mari), Shawn (Jennifer); siblings, Leo Bacca, Pat Workman, Carla Monahan, Steve Aragon, Juliana (Vince) Fatula, Michael Aragon, Pep Aragon; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She also leaves behind her grandbabies, whom she cherished more than anything, Cayley, Lieghanna, Chloe, Brady, Seraphina, Ambelina, and Eva. Lynette also leaves many friends that she loved and cared for.

Skeeter will be missed by all of those who were blessed to have called her Sis, Auntie, Cousin, Nana, Grandma, etc. Her love and energy will be missed by all. The family would like to thank the doctors, hospice nurses and friends who helped her during her final days.

Graveside service, 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, Mountain Vale Memorial Park. Reception to follow at the Fellowship Hall on Ninth and Main Street.

Christina Burns

Christina Burns, age 68, of Cañon City passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017. She was a graduate of Woodland Park High School class of 1967, and she lived a majority of her life in the Woodland Park area, before moving to Cañon City in 1998.

Chris was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt. She will be missed dearly by her family and all who knew her.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Chris on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Events Center at the Holy Cross Abbey in Cañon City. Her family would like to welcome all who knew her to come and celebrate her life with them.

Ivan Eugene Medina 1961 – 2017 Ivan Eugene Medina, 55, of Cañon City, formerly of Grand Island passed away on Feb. 5, 2017.

Ivan was born of April 18, 1961, in Cañon City.

To honor Ivan’s wishes cremation was chosen, private family services will be held at a later date.

Ivan was a karate expert and teacher, learning from a young age. He was a third-degree black belt and competed often. Ivan served in the U.S. Marines following his education. Most of all Ivan valued time spent with friends and family and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his mother, Francis Elrod of Grand Island; son, Dustin Medina of Bakersfield, CA; brothers, Duane Freed of Kearney and Robert Lambert of Elm Creek; sisters, Renee Lenstrom of Sargent and Peggy O’ Roak of Whitman, Maine; beloved uncle, Jerry Shannon; close friend and buddy, Carl Williams; along with numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and extended family and friends.

Ivan was preceded in death by his grandfather, James (Betty) Shannon, grandmother, Dorothy (Bill) Clark and cousin, Evon Lambert.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Glennis Pearl (Hess) Fourtner April 20, 1932 ~ Feb. 17, 2017 Glennis Pearl (Hess) Fourtner, of Cañon City, passed from this life on Friday, February 17, 2017, at the age of 84. Glennis was born April 20, 1932 to Martin V. and Etta Pearl (Carbiener) Hess at Johnson, Kan., where she spent her early years. When Glennis was about four years of age, her mother passed away. Her father later moved the family to Cañon City, where he married Elsie McCartney, who Glennis Fourtner raised Glennis through her later years.

She graduated from Cañon City High School with the Class of 1950. In September of 1950, she and Elbert V. Fourtner were united in marriage. To this union, four children, Robert, Janetta, Marty, and Mike were born.

Glennis loved music and was always involved in serving as a church organist and singing with the Sweet Adeline’s. She was also active with Meals on Wheels and in later years, worked at

the Hallmark and Sears stores. When her children were growing up, she was very active with 4-H and other groups. Glennis was a fantastic cook and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Those who survive and were blessed by her life include her children, Robert (Debbie) Fourtner, of Broken Arrow, OK, Janetta (John) Greene, of Owasso, OK, Marty (Amy) Fourtner, of Cañon City, Mike Fourtner, of Pueblo West; grandchildren, Becky, Jason, Sarah, Jared, Jolynda, Doug, Donna, Andrea; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Stan Hess, of Albuquerque, NM; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral service, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, grandson, Doug Fourtner officiating. Interment to follow at Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels, 702 Greenwood Ave., Cañon City, CO 81212.

Willie D. Prilliman June 29, 1930 ~ Feb. 16, 2017 Willie Dean Prilliman, 86, of Cañon City, died Feb. 16, 2017, at home, surrounded by family.

He was born on the family homestead June 26, 1930, in Sumner County, Kan., to Mabel C. Gooden Prilliman Dickson of Cañon City and William B. Prilliman of Kansas. He moved to Cañon City in 1947.

Later that same year, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Rupertus, USS Alstede, and the USS Caliente and was honorably discharged in 1954.

He worked for the US Soil Conservation then went to Willie D. Prilliman work for Santa Fe Railroad in 1960 until retirement.

Mr. Prilliman was known to appreciate a hot cup of coffee, good conversation, and sharing his knowledge of local history. He truly enjoyed spending time with the staff of Wells Fargo Bank, Edward D Jones, and Signature Mortgage.

Mr. Prilliman was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Charolene Wright.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Debbie (John) Barr of Cañon City, Deanna (Ed) Stefanich of Monument, Yvonne “Janie” (Mike McCracken) of Indianapolis, IN; sons, Jim of Calhan and Corey of Cañon City; grandchildren, Dawnell (Jason) Huitt of Fort Collins, Allison Chavez and Jimmy and Jordan Prilliman of Littleton; step-grandchildren, Lacey Dorsett of Conroe, Texas, Chad (Katie) Barr of Cañon City; great-grandchildren, Rylee and Zander Huitt of Fort Collins; step great-grandchildren, Brittanie Taylor of Cañon City, Tristan and Morgan Robertson of Conroe, Texas, Stephan Barr of Cañon City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their children. He is also survived by his dear friends, Rosie Prilliman, Don & Sandy Smith, his neighbors on Griffin Street, and numerous other friends, too many to mention but you know who you are.

Dolores DeGroot, 92, went to be with our Lord Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, in Cañon City.

In Loving Memory Mario P. DiNardo May 9, 1929 ~ Feb. 15, 2017 Mario P. DiNardo went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 15, 2017. A lifetime resident of Cañon City, Mario was born May 9, 1929, to Ubaldo and Marietta (DiRito) DiNardo and graduated from the Holy Cross Abbey in 1949.

In 1941, at the age of 12, Mario and his twin brother, Albert, along with Mario DiNardo their father, started making their famous cherry delight, apple and grape cider. Mario and Albert started selling their famous cider from a juice stand on Elm Street, outside their home. Little did Mario and Albert know, this juice stand would turn into 75+ years of business, selling their world renowned cider.

Mario’s favorite hobby was tap dancing, which he did for 35 years, along with ballroom dancing. You could always find Mario and his twin brother, Albert, dancing at local venues, whenever a good band was playing. Mario was dearly loved and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Mario was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tony, Pasquel and a sister-in-law. He is survived by his brother, Albert and Heidi.

Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, St. Michael Catholic Church, Reverend Jesse Perez officiating.

Touch of Love Celebrates Anniversary Longtime Cañon City Business Celebrates 35th Anniversary For Katie Martin, the past 35 years have been a labor of love.

The Touch of Love owner is celebrating her 35th anniversary this year. She reflected on that time, recalling the support of family and friends who helped start the business in January 1982 when Martin was just 22 years old.

The business originally was located on Royal Gorge Boulevard next door to Century 21. She had worked at a floral shop for five years at that time and realized she didn’t want to do anything else.

Martin said she chose the name “Touch of Love” because it reflects the feelings people have when sending flowers or gifts no matter the occasion.

Touch of Love moved to its permanent home at 1201 S. Ninth St. in 1992. Again, she leaned on her family to help her set up shop.

She remembers showing her daughter, Joleen, the new shop and saw the tears well up in her eyes as she looked at it and said it is so ugly.

“Mom you can’t move your shop here,” Martin recalls her daughter saying. “We told her not to worry it would be beautiful!”

Through the years, Touch of Love has offered different programs and has been part of several events.

One of the most popular programs is the “Bouquet of the Month” Club!

With more than 1,600 members, customers visit once a month and pick up their loose-cut flower bouquet! This gives so many people in our community the opportunity to enjoy fresh flowers at the amaz-

A popular event at “Touch of Love” is its annual Christmas Open House. Locals, as well as many outof-town customers, look forward to the kick off to the Holiday Season!

Between the hours of 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., the store will have 400 to 600 guests visit to see what is featured.

Customers get one dozen roses, a complimentary glass of wine and snacks to enjoy while learning to design a floral arrangement of Roses!

Martin said the business has had the good fortune of steady growth year after year. Shae Sandritter was promoted to floral shop manager in 2016. She began her career much like Martin, cleaning, delivering flowers, learning floral design and customer service. Sandritter is a natural and has found her career niche!

“Shae loves to interact with the customers and help Brides & Grooms plan their wedding,” Martin

said. “You will also find her working on displays in the showroom and designing floral bouquets and corsages in the design room! You will also find Shae out doing presentations, helping Katie decorate businesses and homes, as well as putting on demonstrations for groups and selling Fandies Fudge at a lot events in Cañon City.”

Touch of Love purchased Fandies Fudge from Debi Moore in 2013, the fudge business is really busy!

Katie’s daughter, Kaleen, often shows her creative skills making fudge when she is off from her job in Colorado Springs. Kaleen graduated from UCCS in 2016 with an Electrical Engineering Degree so we like to tease her that she does in fact have a creative side, as well! Touch of Love offers Fudge Dipped Strawberries at Valentine’s, Mother’s Day and by special order.

Martin said working with other local businesses is crucial for everyone to succeed.

“We try to involve our neighboring businesses for events that will

benefit them, as well as our customers like our Open House with Brady’s Garden Center,” Martin said. “ We are currently working with Nanci from Tailored West on co-hosting a Bridal Event in March at Tailored West location on Main Street.”

For Martin, the key to success is a combination of hard work, friends and family support and, of course, loyal customers.

“We love what we do,” Martin said. “We seek new ideas. We believe in treating people right. We have the best people working for us.

Fremont County Chiropractic welcomes husband, wife team Fremont County Chiropractic recently added Johnathon and Melissa Oswald to its staff.

The husband and wife team, who joined Dr. Eric Young and Dr. Robert Graham, started Feb. 1 at 109 Latigo Lane, Suite A. “We are excited to be a part of the Cañon community”, Melissa said.

Dr. Melissa is passionate about working with athletes of all ages.

She fenced from the age of 5 through college, competing at Temple University, and that’s part of the appeal of working with athletes.

“I like to work with a lot of

athletes,” she said, “getting the kids back on the field and able to perform, that’s something I really like doing.”

She also enjoys working with women through their pregnancy and with children.

Dr. Johnathon’s practice is more general, he works with athletes from middle school and high school to older residents.

The couple also works on animals, specifically canine and equine, and are both certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association. Referrals from a veterinarian are required.

This is a unique service to Fre-

mont County as the next closest AVCA certified animal chiropractors are in Denver.

Melissa said working with animals is “exciting and offers alternative health care options for animals”.

“It has a lot of the same principles,” Dr. Johnathon said. “For the most part, it’s pretty similar, but it looks a lot different.”

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

Please look through the program of classes. Included you will find the day, time, instructor’s name, a brief description of the class and the room where the class will be held.

Each class is also assigned a CRN number.

The CRN number is used for data entry when you register for the class (es.) The CRN number for each class you want to take is REQUIRED to complete your registration.

Please note: You may be required to bring your own supplies for some courses.

These supplies and/or any associated costs for the class are noted in the course description.

Select the classes you would like to take. Complete a registration form and then turn it in at the PCC Fremont Campus Office.

Payment for classes is due at the time of registration.

The registration form requires your date of birth and your signature. After your application has been processed, you will be issued a student ID number. This will be different from your Social Security number.

College students’ rights, privacy and access regarding their educational records are articulated in the Family Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), commonly known as the Buckley Amendment. The Act helps protect the privacy of student records by requiring that institutions limit the disclosure of information from these records to a third person.

The following information has been identified as directory information and is subject for release to the public under the Buckley Amendment: Student’s name, address and home telephone number. Social Security numbers are NOT disclosed.

Students will be provided with a printout of their class schedules showing course name(s), times and location. Instructors will be provided with a list of students enrolled in the class. You may not attend a class unless you have registered for it.

REMINDER: Lunch reservations and payment are due by 3 p.m. on the previous day. Lunch reservations and payment for the Fremont Cattlewomen’s barbeque lunch will be due by 3 p.m. March 17.

Students should bring a completed registration form to the Fremont Campus Office (the form is available in the Shopper insert, the Crusader insert or on the PCC website.) Telephone registration is also accepted from 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday. Students will need to have selected their classes prior to doing a telephone registration. Payment Information: Cost for Senior Mini College is $10 per day or $45 for the week.

There is no “per class” option. Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card.

For the safety and comfort of all students, class sizes are limited. Classes are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The Advisory Committee has worked to find a few larger presentation spaces, as well as ask presenters to repeat classes.

Come learn the basics of essential oils and how we can both benefit physically and mentally from

the aromatic, topical, and internal use of essential oils.

Class Type: Hands On Class Limit: 20 Room Fieldtrip CRN 590 From Vine to Wine David Fuselier A trip to the Le Fuselier Winery in Brookside will begin with a stroll through the vineyard and a talk about the process of planting, growing, pruning and picking grapes for wine making.

Next stop is the Grape Shed to talk about the crushing, pressing and fermenting. Thein it’s into the lab and bottling room to look at some key chemical formulas that explain how sucrose is converted into ethanol. We’ll look at a fruit juice, measure its sugar content and PH, and talk about whether it is a good candidate for fermentation into wine. Then it’s into the tank room and final into the barrel room to talk about the various methods of aging wine.

We will finish up with a talk about the growing wine industry in Colorado and the increasing numbers of jobs in grape growing, winemaking and marketing.
