Gale Louise Longshore

July 16, 1932 - Dec. 9, 2016 Loyd Harmon, 84, passed away peacefully at home on December 9, 2016. He was born in Springfield, CO, on July 16, 1932, to “A.O.” and Nellie (Richards) Harmon.

He was a cattle rancher living through the Great American Dust Bowl.

His family then moved to Cripple Creek, CO where he attended Cripple Creek High School. He was married to Katherine “KT” (Robush) Harmon, in 1951.

She preceded him in death Loyd Harmon in 1985.

He was the second of four children, Gene Harmon (deceased), Roy Harmon and Carol Harmon both of AZ. He had four children, Kathy (Jimmy) Lester of Hennessey, OK, Bruce “Andy” (Terry Shipey) Harmon of Lyle, Washington. Loyd “David” Harmon (Deceased) and Cheryl Harmon (Ryan) of Cañon City. His has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his closest and best friend Terry Sochovka and her family. Cory Sochovka (Laura Ellis) and Theresa Taylor of Cañon City. He has six step-grandchildren and four great step-grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life on July 15, 2017, at Path Finders Park, Florence, Colo. 115 at 11 a.m. Contributions may be sent to Sangre de Cristo 601 Greenwood Ave. Cañon City, CO 81212.

Maragret Lucille “Lue” Uhland, sunrise June 18, 1937, sunset Dec. 14, 2016.

My angel was born to John and Madeline Ann (Ossola) Becco on June 18, 1937, and passed away a saint. Lue and Bill were married Sept. 11, 1955, as high school sweethearts, followed by 61 years of happy married bliss. To this union was born a son, Gary W. Uhland and a daughter, Crystal L. Uhland.

Lue was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert V. Becco; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Uhland; Maragret Uhland son, Gary W. (Lauri) Uhland; grandchildren, Christopher Uhland, Michael (Nancy) Uhland; great-granddaughter, Peyton N. Uhland; great-grandson, Holden W. Uhland.

Also survived by her daughter, Crystal L. Schneider; son-in-law, Phill Schneider; grandchildren, Mathew (Shelly) Schneider, Lucas (Chreese), Mariah Schneider; numerous nieces and nephews on the Uhland side of the family; as well as adopted daughters, Jeanne and Gaby.

Lue was a homemaker to her family, as that was her passion. She was the center of the family; caring, always giving, and a smile for everyone who knew her. She worked as a childcare provider, school dietary aide, pizza crust maker, and also worked for Holt Family Funeral Home. She was an avid Bronco fan, never missing a game and always cheering, win or lose. Lue loved to cook and nobody ever left her table hungry. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gale Louise Longshore, 81, of Cañon City, passed away Dec. 13, 2016.

She was born April 23, 1935, to Merwin and Dorothula (Downham) Longshore in Marian, IN. Gale and her family moved to Cripple Creek in the 1960s and lived there until 1984 when they moved to Cañon City.

Gale quickly became in- Gale Longshore volved in both communities.

In Cripple Creek, she and husband Gabe along with business partners, Mike and Dottie Hendricks owned and operated the Cripple Creek Inn from 1970-74. In Cañon City, most people will remember her from working as a real estate agent for Ed Herzog Real Estate. After her retirement she spent her time taking care of her family.

She is survived by her children; James (Nancy) Ragan, Katrina Leger, Belle (Richard) Gosnell, Foster (Brenda) Scott; siblings, Doris (Ralph) Joslyn, James (Kate) Longshore; ex-husband, Dennis Glowienka; grandchildren, Jeremiah Ragan, Kayla Scott, Gabe Scott, Elijah Scott, Keenan (Laura) Leger, Trevers Leger, Brielle Perry, Natisha Wardyak, Jon (Samantha) Hill, Abigale Boh, Maria (Rob) Gochis, Kimberly Davis and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Arlene; husbands, Harold Ragan and Gabriel Scott and grandchildren, Shannondoah Ragan and Joshua Ragan.

Kristina van Beuren King Nov. 4, 1947 - Dec. 17, 2016 Kristy survived breast cancer, but succumbed to autoimmune encephalopathy at home on Dec. 17, 2016.

Kristy grew up in St. Louis, MO, attended Foxcroft School in Middleburg, VA, and Maryville College in St. Louis, MO. She was a Registered Respiratory Therapist and treated children with cancer and cystic fibrosis for 14 years at Children’s Hospital at Stanford, Kristina van in Palo Alto, CA. She then Beuren King moved to Colorado, and became an Office Manager.

Kristy competed in Masters Swimming, earning National titles, and All American status. She swam from Alcatraz to San Francisco, the length of the Golden Gate Bridge, across Donner Lake, the Trans Tahoe Relay, the Maui Channel Relay, and many other open water races. Kristy traveled the world extensively, but two of her favorite destinations were the 4UR ranch for fly fishing, and seeing friends, and to Kauai for sun and surf.

Kristy will be missed by her many friends in California, Colorado, Missouri and Hawaii.

She is survived by her brother, Fielding, sister, Victoria, nephews, Andrew, Jack and Warren, and many cousins. At her request, there will be no services.

Frances Elaine Segura March 19, 1946 – Dec. 13, 2016 Frances “Fran” Elaine Segura, 70, passed away Dec. 13, 2016 in Cañon City.

She was born March 19, 1946, to Louis and Isabelle (Eaton) Green in Compton, California.

Fran and her family moved to Fremont County in 1985 from California. During her time here, Fran made many lifelong friends and enjoyed living here. If you truly knew Fran, Frances Segura you understood her love for everything butterflies. She loved to play video games with her grandkids, bowling, bingo, crocheting and spending time with her family.

Fran spent the last few years at The Friendship where she was cared for by many wonderful people. She is survived by her husband Walter Segura, Kathy (Larry) Segura, Karen Miller, Jamie (Cila Ruiz) Arnold, Michelle (Chris) Washington; grandchildren, Michael, Natalie, Robert, Joshua, Kyle, Travis, Daniel, Christina, Samantha, Ciara, LaQuon, Cylynthia, Cayden; siblings, Madeline and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, brother and one grandchild. At her request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Harwood Cremation and Funeral.

James Robert Kincaid, Jr.

James Robert Kincaid, Jr., 69, passed away Dec. 15, 2016, at the Bruce McCandless State Veterans Home in Florence.

Jim was born Aug. 16, 1947, to James and Mary (Dowe) Kincaid, Sr., in Sheridan, WY. He served his country during the Vietnam War, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal and Bronze Star Medal.

A self-made man, Jim was a hard worker and gun enthusiast who loved buying, selling and shooting guns and rifles during his free time.

Jim also loved people and made many good friends during his time in Florence.

You would often find him drinking coffee and talking with folks at Two Sisters restaurant then heading off to the local pawn shops looking for another “beauty” to add to his gun collection.

He is survived by his wife, Deanne; children, James R. Kincaid, III, Angela (DeWayne) Smitherman; sister Pam Holzhiemer, brother, John Kincaid and step-brother, Dwight Lee Nelson.

He was preceded by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m.

Kay Anderson-Bell

Kay Anderson-Bell, 60 passed away at home on December 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 18, 1956 to Floyd and Dorothy (Little) Wigton in Longmont, CO. A lifelong resident of Penrose and Fremont County, Kay stayed close to her roots and raised her family here. She married Vic Anderson, who precedes here and had two children. In 1991, she married her sweetheart, Leslie Bell and together they celebrated 25 wonderful years. Kay’s very nature was that of a caregiver.

She loved helping others and worked as a home health caregiver but more importantly, Kay took care of her family. She lovingly took care of her grandparents, brother, mother and father. She enjoyed camping, fishing and going with her mom to Cripple Creek, which they did at least once a month.

Kay also was an animal enthusiast, and especially loved horses. She leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Leslie; children, Bobby Anderson, Leanne (Arlo) Padilla; father, Floyd Wigton; sister, Rhonda (Mike) Motsko. ‘Gin Joint’ murder mystery night set for New Year’s Eve

Production set for Dec. 31 at Abbey With a songbird, a black market smuggler, police and spies, the Fremont Civic Theatre is planning to revive the 1940s in a New Year’s Eve murder mystery dinner.

The production of “Gin Joint” is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Abbey Event Center, 2951 U.S. 50.

Throughout the night, guests will have dinner and interact with the production’s seven actors as they try to figure out which one of their characters is a murderer.

“One of the characters dies, and they have to figure out who did it,” said Mandy Brown, the production’s director.

“They get clues,” she said, adding that guests are welcome to come dressed in attire from the 1930s and ‘40s. “It’s sort of a Casablanca send-up.”

During dinner, Brown said, the Abbey will serve guests’ choice of artichoke spinach lasagna, hand-carved herb roasted roast beef or wild mushroom chicken. There also will be a cash bar.

Toward the end of the night, members of the production will give out prizes for costumes and solutions to the mystery.

“So, if they want to come in a

World War II uniform, or if they wanted to come as a gangster, underground ruffian, there will be a costume contest,” she said.

“There will also be a prize for most creative solution.”

There also will be a silent auction, with a variety of items, including tickets to Disneyland, a signed Colorado Avalanche hockey puck, jewelry, a wooden table, wine caddies, a gift certificate to Advanced Weapons, an overnight stay at Bronco Billy’s and more.

The dinner will serve as the Fremont Civic Theatre’s biggest fundraiser of the year, Brown said, adding that the production usually wraps up at about 10 p.m.

“It’s a nice thing to have for New Year’s Eve because it’s not until midnight,” she said. “So,

you can still come to the dinner and then go out to an after-party somewhere if you want to stay out late.”

For people who might want to bring children, Brown said she would rate the production as PG-13.

Tickets, which are only available for advance purchase, are $40 for individuals, $75 for couples and $350 for a table of 10. They can be purchased in Cañon City at City Market and Absolute Accounting and in Florence at the Fox Den. For dinner, the theater is asking that people choose their meal in advance.

“It’s going to be a funny show, cool auction items. Feel free to come in costume,” Brown said. “It’s a good time.”

Classes run from Jan. 24 to April 18 and are held weekly at 5 p.m. Tuesday evenings at STMH in the Community Room, located at 1338 Phay Ave. There are many health risks involved with smoking - ranging from emphysema, lung and throat cancer to heart disease and stroke. Cigarette smoking and exposure to tobacco smoke causes more than 440,000 premature and preventable deaths each year in the United States.

It is the mission of STMH to nurture the health of the people in our communities, so we hope that many tobacco users will take advantage of this free opportunity we are extending.

“This program is for anyone wanting to quit using tobacco, whether it’s your first time trying to quit or you have attempted to quit before,” said Laurie McKeever, C.R.T., Certified Respiratory Therapist at STMH. “Our goal is to help you understand your addiction to nicotine, and learn ways to control urges. Those who attend this class will be given supportive guidance from me as your program coordinator, as well as others who are trying to quit. The education we provide is very effective and will help in your journey to becoming tobacco free.”

Adding a nicotine replacement product to your smoking cessation program is advisable prior to the second week of class because a quit date is set during that week. Participants may receive free nicotine patches by calling the Colorado Quit Line at 1 (800) 639-7848.

“I Am Resolved”

Most of us make resolutions for the New Year but often don’t keep them! They get put on “the back burner” because we procrastinate. From pro (forward) and crastinus (of tomorrow), to procrastinate means to put off something that needs to be done. The Bible mentions some who heard the gospel but procrastinated.

Paul preached to a governor named Felix and “as he reasoned of righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified but said, ‘Go away now, when I have a convenient season I will call for you” (Acts 24:25). Another ruler, King Agrippa, heard the message of the crucified and resurrected Christ and replied, “Almost you have persuaded me to become a Christian” (Acts 26:28). In contrast, we see examples of some who heard the good news and obeyed immediately. When Paul and Silas were in prison at Philippi, they spoke the word of the Lord to the jailer and then to his family. They were baptized that same hour of the night (Acts 16:22-34). Sadly, many will delay obedience to the Lord until it is eternally too late! How tragic for one to have known the way of salvation and then lose his soul because he put off being obedient. Jesus knew the risk of procrastinating: He said, “We must work the works of Him that sent me while it is day. The night is coming when no man can work” (John 9:4). Don’t delay your obedience to the Lord: believe in Jesus, repent and be baptized to have your sins forgiven. Don’t just resolve - do it before it is too late!
