WINDSOR TO PROVIDE INCENTIVE PACKAGE FOR LOGISTICS FACILITY

T

he Windsor Town Board voted unanimously last month to approve a $1.5 million incentive package for a 200,000-square-foot logistics facility that will bring 100 new full-time jobs to the town.

The facility would be run by Lineage Logistics, a controlledtemperature transportation company that operates in the food supply chain.

The facility would be located in the Great Western Industrial Park, east of Colorado Highway 257 and south of Colorado Highway 392.

The project is expected to cost $99 million. The incentive

package includes more than $1.3 million in fee waivers and reimbursements and more than $240,000 in personal property tax rebates. Documents prepared by town staff estimate that the 10-year net financial impact of the project would be just shy of $4 million.

The average salary for the new jobs created will be $50,894.

A

petition to recall a Weld RE-4 School District Board of Education member was determined to be insufficient, but community members supporting the effort against Regan Price have no plans to appeal the result.

Weld County Clerk and Recorder Carly Koppes said through an emailed news release early Wednesday afternoon the petition filed to remove Price lacked an acceptable number of verified signatures to continue the recall process.

There were 3,163 signatures turned in on the petition with 3,120 required for acceptance, according to Koppes.

But only 2,315 signatures, or 74%, were deemed to be accepted. Only active voters in the Weld RE-4 School District may sign the petitions.

Later in the day, one of the leaders of the recall said the group didn’t plan to appeal the county ruling.The petitioners had the option to file an appeal with Weld County District Court to challenge the county’s verification process, Koppes wrote in an email.

“A lot of things have happened since the recall,” Windsor resident Luke Alles said, noting the departure of administrators including former superintendent Dan Seegmiller, former board of education president Jen Lieber and former executive assistant to the superintendent/board of education Sherry Hoffman. “The big thing to me is the education of the community with what is happening in schools, and I think that happened. I think the school board, the schools and community realizes something has to give.”

Seegmiller and Lieber resigned their positions days apart last month following the failure of a $179 million bond package designed to address overcrowding issues in RE-4 schools. Hoffman recently left the district for another job.

Price, halfway through her second term on the RE-4 board, said Wednesday afternoon she’s “ready to move forward to work with the whole community” to face the overcrowding problem.

“I look forward to working with the community and to hear their voices on how we can to solve issues,” Price said. “Working together as a community is very important to me.”

Alles previously said he initiated the recall effort aimed at Price and Lieber, and he was working with Severance resident Ashley Harrison and Windsor resident Beth Gates, who is Alles’ sister.

The recall process for Lieber ended with her resignation.

Alles, Harrison and Gates are affiliated with a nonprofit of district residents called Guardians of RE4. Formed in June, the Guardians have nearly 1,500 members on Facebook. Alles, his wife, Brooke, and Harrison are administrators of the social media group.

The Guardians are “dedicated to investing in the overall success and growth of Weld RE-4 students while focusing on protecting our rights, advocating for the students, teachers and faculty of RE-4, and defending the constitution of Colorado and the United States of America,” according to a description on Facebook. “Our goal is to work with community and district leaders of RE-4 to rise together to ensure best in class overall education experience, for both charter and public schools in the district.”

The Guardians backed challengers Aaron Smith and Trent Leisy in the November school board elections.

Smith defeated Christopher Perkins and joined the board late last month.

Price, Russ Smart and Lance Nichols are the other board members. Nichols defeated Leisy in their race. The board is accepting applications to fill Lieber’s seat, and an appointment will be made by early January.

Alles said Wednesday he doesn’t know if the recall effort impacted the vote on the bond. District voters overwhelmingly rejected the $3 million mill levy override tax, 57% to 42%. The bond vote was closer, a difference of about 4 percentage points with 52% saying no and 47.98% supporting the measure.

“I don’t think everyone wants to keep the sides going,” Alles said of the community division. “It’s been a toll on everyone with everything going on. People are ready to start healing and make progress on finding solutions.”

NEW MOVIE, ‘SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE SHORTNESS OF BREATH,’ SHORT ON LENGTH, BUT LONG ON INTENSITY

A

s a writer,I often hear people comment about how difficult it was for them to write a 12-page research paper in high school or college,so they can’t imagine having to write long articles for the paper on a daily basis.

For me, writing long pieces is a breeze. It’s the short articles and stories that are my challenge.Being able to cram all of the information into a 8 to 10-inch story can be agony.However,despite the difficulty, it can be done.

So, when I met short film writer and director Ben Hess, I was enamored with his ability to take 15-20 minutes of film and make me feel as if I just sat through a full-length feature movie.

I first spoke with Hess back in November 2020 when he released his movie “Maggie.”

“It definitely has more of an entertainment component to it.”

While “Maggie” was just a little over 22 minutes, “Symptoms May Include Shortness of Breath” came in at 15 minutes. One may not think that seven minutes would make that much of a difference, but if you’ve ever had to talk in front of a crowd or sit in a corner you know how long a single minute can be.

“I always knew I wanted it to be about that length. When you are writing a script, generally speaking one page of a script is one minute on the screen,” Hess said.

The movie has received positive responses and earned its way into the Another Hole in the Head film festival.

The movie, which tells the story of human trafficking, packs a ton of emotion, intensity and rawness into a mere 22:13 minutes.

I actually watched the movie twice because I couldn’t believe how it was possible to make such an impactful piece in a short film format.

In his second short film project, “Symptoms May Include Shortness of Breath,” Hess ups the intensity and shortens the time.

I sat down with the writer, director, editor and soon-to-be dad to his second child, to chat about what it was like making an even shorter short film.

“With ‘Maggie’ I drew on some of my professional experiences and knowledge of criminal activity and how the criminal mind works a little bit,” Hess explained. “With this new project, it’s more of a thriller where ‘Maggie’ had more social commentary to it. ‘Maggie’ was pretty intense, where this one is more of an intentional thriller.

Colleen said she was impressed after reading the script and previously starring in seven shorts, including a recent short film project in Las Vegas, prior to working with Hess, Colleen was well aware of how the filming process worked.

“Reading the script, I felt like there was a lot of underlying tones and there was so much to play with in the character,” she said. “Ben knows how to convey what he wants in an easy and reasonable manner. Working with him was so much fun, but also challenging. He challenged me to be my best self.”

Hess’s experience filming ‘Maggie’ helped him be better prepared for taking on “Symptoms.”

“I definitely pre-planned things better this time around. Pre-planning is irreplaceable,” Hess said.

The shooting process for “Symptoms” was also much shorter than with “Maggie.” Hess and his crew filmed the entire movie in two days while “Maggie” took a few months.

“The location was booked ahead of time and I knew exactly which scene I was going to shoot on each day,” Hess said. “It was more of what I would call a professional shoot while ‘Maggie’ was flying by the seat of my pants.”

“It’s one of the most popular genre film festivals in the country so I was really excited it got in,” Hess said.

Hess recently wrapped up filming on another short film, which is set to release in the next month or two, and he and his wife are expecting their second child any day.

Hess describes the movies as a “chance encounter that very quickly deconstructs into a bad situation.”

“Every filmmaker has come out with their ‘pandemic film’ and this one is mine,” Hess said. “I really wanted to get across the idea that it doesn’t matter who you meet, they could be dangerous. Like with COVID. It could be a very innocent meeting, but you could die from that meeting.

“But (in the movie) there’s a different component that could kill you.”

As with any good thriller, Hess’ movie has a big twist at the end.

“It’s definitely gritty. I tried to be realistic with some of the action that happened in it because you see Hollywood action and it’s very embellished,” he explained. “So tried to put a few things in the end where there’s more action. It’s more reality based.”

As editor of the film, Hess pretty much knew how he wanted to construct each shot before hand, making the editing process more streamlined.

“If you write, direct and edit your own stuff, you can kind of cheat a little bit,” he said. “I went into it with it really planned out and because I wrote it and knew I was going to also edit it, I could direct it with those things in mind.”

Hess found the cast for the flick through a casting call.

“I had a bunch of people audition. We did the same thing for ‘Maggie’ but I had probably double the amount of actors coming to the audition,” Hess said. “I was amazed at the quality and quantity of actors that came forward.”

The movie stars Patrick Call as Gary, Matison Card as Felicia, Mikandrew at Joker, and Greeley resident and UNC graduate Cholé Colleen as Connie.

Hess saw Colleen, 24, in another movie and reached out to her personally with an offer to audition for the role Connie in “Symptoms.”

“So I auditioned and he cast me on the spot,” Colleen said.

He advised that labor shortages affect both sales and service departments,and asks customers to be patient when their car needs service.

A

Windsor High School student group supporting an east African tribe recently received help from a local organization concerned with the impact of carbon monoxide poisoning.

In 2009, Johnson’s daughter, Lauren Moilien Johnson died of carbon monoxide poisoning while a graduate student in Denver.

Moilien Johnson was a 2004 graduate of Windsor High School, and the nonprofit Lauren Project was founded in her memory.

Windsor resident Don Johnson represented the Lauren Project in donating $1,500 last week to Windsor High’s new International Organizations Club,which is raising money for clean burning and efficient wood-burning stoves for the Maasai in the east African nations of Tanzania and Kenya.

The Lauren Project provides grants to young adults (ages 21 to 35) to perform international volunteer service. Since its founding, the Lauren Project has sent 150 adults to 37 different countries with grants totaling $250,000, according to Don Johnson, who is on the Lauren Project board of directors.

Earlier this month, the 12-member Windsor club hosted a S.T.E.A.M fair and experts on the Maasai as a fundraiser for the International Collaborative’s Maasai Stoves and Solar Project.

The International Collaborative is a nonprofit offering innovative and successful methods for organization around women’s empowerment,according to its website.The collaborative primarily focuses on the Maasai Stoves and Solar Project that designs and installs the clean stoves to reduce indoor air pollution and wood fuel consumption.

The project also has a mission to promote carbon monoxide safety and education, and this is why the Windsor International Organizations Club’s work for the Maassai caught Don Johnson’s eye. “This is a good opportunity for our community to do something positive for another community,” Dodrill said. “To appreciate all we have in our lives. This is a unique opportunity to learn about a culture halfway around the world and see what we

Johnson said when Lauren was a sophomore in high school a teacher in one of her classes challenged the students to “do something for someone else.” Lauren and a couple of fellow students raised $27,000 for a woman with breast cancer whose family was struggling.

“I think that demonstrated to Lauren that she didn’t have to wait to make a difference,” Johnson said. “And even at the ripe old age of 15, I think she was 15. This is that kind of a project. Students can learn they can make a difference now.”

WINDSOR TOWN BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVES GOTHAM GREENS INCENTIVE PACKAGE

T

he town board unanimously approved Monday night an incentive package to help produce-farming company Gotham Greens build a 125,000-squarefoot greenhouse in the Great Western Industrial Park.

The incentive package would provide more than $140,000 in fee waivers and personal-property-tax rebates.

Gotham Greens is a Brooklyn, New York-based company that builds produce-farming greenhouses in urban areas.

It claims to use 95% less water and 97% less land than conventional farms, and its greenhouses allow for a yearround growing season. It operates greenhouses in five states, including one in Aurora.

The board passed the incentive package without much discussion after Gotham Greens co-founder and chief financial officer Eric Haley confirmed that the greenhouse would not be used for marijuana cultivation.

“We have no intention to ever grow cannabis,” Haley said. “Our intention is to grow sustainable food, specifically leafy greens. The purpose of this is 100% food production.”

In a letter to the town board, Gotham said the greenhouse would annually grow about 5,000 tons of lettuce and herbs.

It would also create 55 full-time jobs with an average salary of about $50,000. In the letter, Gotham said the facility “will combine technically sophisticated, commercially proven hydroponic growing techniques with unique design features and energy saving innovations that will increase crop productivity while reducing electric, heating, cooling and water demands.”

The total cost of the project would be about $15 million.

The 10-year net fiscal economic impact on Windsor is estimated to be about $680,000.

Gotham Greens is also looking at Longmont and Berthoud as potential locations for the facility.

“We are in the final stages of negotiating and finalizing the site plans,” Haley said. “We have reviewed several sites across the state and want to move forward as quickly as possible with permits and site plans.” © 2021 BizWest Media LLC

anuary is National Walk Your Dog Month, but before you take your dog out into the elements for their walk, there’s a few things to consider heading into some of the coldest months of the year. “It’s something as simple as looki king i out your window.The most prevalent thing to pay attention to is the temperature and whether there is precipitation or not,” Good says. “Be

aware of what’s going on outside before you leave the house.”

Good recommends using a pet safe salt on snow and ice around your home, but acknowledges that you can’t control what your neighbors or the city might use.

“Salt can rub your pet’s paws raw. There are chemicals in it that can react and cause irritations to the pad of the foot,”she says.“Use a boot or paw balm,or if you don’t have either of those,make sure at the very least to wipe your dog’s paws with water and gentle soap when you get home. That way they’re not

licking their paws when they get home and consuming it.”

One of the individuals reporting for work was public school retiree Rod Blunck,now the interim superintendent of the Weld RE-4 School District for students in the Windsor and Severance areas.

Blunck, with more than 30 years in education including six years as superintendent of the 27J School District in Brighton,arrived in Windsor about 8 a.m. Monday for the six-month job. Commuting from Brighton, he’ll be the interim through the end of the fiscal 20 | mywindsor | JANUARY 2022

The RE-4 community has always had a wonderful reputation as being a stellar educational system,

year on June 30 to lead the district while helping the board of education choose a permanent, full-time superintendent.

“The RE-4 community has always had a wonderful reputation as being a stellar educational system,” Blunck said of a reason for taking on the interim role.

“I’ve been coming here for 20 years as far as superintendent meetings and such and it has always been the jewel in the northeast corner. How could you turn down an opportunity to do that?”

Blunck ’s finalized contract was approved Monday evening during a 4-minute special meeting at the administration building on Main Street

in Windsor.

The board has another special meeting planned for Thursday in the administration building board room.

The board will interview nine applicants for the board of education seat vacant with Jennifer Lieber’s resignation in November. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. and will be streamed live.

Blunck said the job of the interim superintendent will be to continue to support the work of district leadership and to support the vision of the board of education and implement its direction.

Another part of the work will be counsel the board as it begins to look for a new superintendent.

Blunck called the search process the board’s “legacy decision” over the next six months.

superintendent will outlive the decision makers and “that tells how big of a decision it is for this board.”

Blunck said the choice of a new superintendent will be the board deciding on a skill set for the new administrator while walking a balance respecting the history of the community and moving the district forward.

“This is a very competitive market for good leadership,” Blunck said.

“Sometimes there are nuances that are unique to us that aren’t unique to other schools. Whether it be the type of questions we put together, wehter it be an adequate compensation package we put together, helping the board understand and work therough what’s that long term fit.

The district continues to have issues with overcrowding in schools despite the November failure of a $179 million bond measure to build new facilities.

“The graduating class of 2034 is already in our schools,”Blunck said.

“When you look at it in those terms, it gives that futuristic look, a sense of urgency.”

Blunck, who has a doctorate in educational leadership, was chosen for the interim job over three other finalists interviewed by the board on Dec. 7. He selected Dec. 15. Blunck took over on Monday for Amy Heinsma, the district’s director of instruction who served as acting superintendent following the resignation of Dan Seegmiller in mid November. “Dr. Rod Blunck has many years of experience as a superintendent and has had great success with districts in the past,” Smart said in a district release on Dec. 16. “He possesses an energetic attitude, and will hit the ground running.”

Last month, the district hired McPherson and Jacobson, an executive recruitment and development firm in Omaha, Nebraska to lead the search for a permanent superintendent.

Blunck will work with the board and McPherson and Jacobson on the search process.

The Weld RE-4 contract will pay Blunck $69,216.67 for 140 days of work during the calendar year, according to the contract provided by the school district. Blunck declined health insurance coverage as part of the interim work. The district will pay Blunck a monthly $75 stipend for business use of his cell phone. He will also receive 15 days of paid personal leave in agreement with the board president, Russ Smart.

COMN FARE SERVES UP A MIX OF BISTRO, CARNIVAL AND FOOD TRUCK FAVES INSIDE WINDSOR’S PECULIER ALES

ick Armitage designed his downtown Windsor craft brewery, Peculier Ales, with a baseline premise to release beers that his customers want.

N

With that concept driving creativity, he pursues an independent and unique niche in the craft beer-making world, brewing a variety of beer styles, but puts Peculier’s unique spin on them.

Armitage recognizes brewing is a business. He can make wild and crazy beers, but people have to like to drink them.

So, it’s no surprise that Peculier’s new on-site kitchen, Comn Fare, is equally unique in the food concepts its employees hand over the counter to customers.

“What we ended up with is beer garden bistro meets carnival fair. Plus, breweries are often known as being food truck venues, and we wanted to integrate those food concepts into our menu at Comn Fare, too,” Nelson said.

His brewery is modeled after a Peculier, what an independently governed church parish in England is called.

Peculier partnered with Windsor Mill Tavern to design a menu that would complement the brewery’s beer and enhance the Peculier experience.

That four-pronged recipe translates to offerings that are fun to eat. And while the choices don’t quite rise to the level of Cooking Channel’s “gastronomic freak show,” “Carnival Eats,” there is certainly an element of showmanship of the sort you’d encounter on the fairgrounds.

“The Peculiers were parishes that focused on the community and didn’t deal with church politics,”Armitage said.

Brad Nelson, the Tavern’s general manager, said he envisioned a menu that was modern yet playful.

What makes food unserious? It’s likely a factor of size, uncommon pairings and novelty.

There’s a ginormous soft Bavarian pretzel served with a choice of three dipping sauces, each meal-defining — pick the spicy pimento cheese spread for a starter, house beer mustard for a main, or stay-with-me-sweetheart cinnamon cream cheese icing if you’re planning on enjoying the pretzel for dessert.

There’s also gourmet Elote corn dogs slathered with avocado crema and roasted sweet corn served knifeand-fork style, street tacos, and MexAsian egg rolls stuffed with savory pork carnitas and cilantro lime slaw served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce.

All these provide the modern bistro twist. Beer-braised brats and beer cheese soup incorporate Peculier’s beer, rounding out the beer garden theme.

On the carnival side, you can get your fill of carnival-style fried food with funnel cake fries, fried pickles and soft serve ice cream.

Not everything on Comn Fare’s menu is heavy or sugar-loaded.

A chicken Caesar salad wrap and cup of shrimp and sea scallop ceviche balances the fried options, providing choices for varied tastes.

All told, unserious food is what you’d enjoy at a brewery combined with things kids and adults enjoy munching on at a fair.

Nelson adds that one goal in designing the menu was to capture every demographic that comes into the brewery.

Peculier’s airy, raftered taproom opens onto a large, dog-friendly patio that often features live music backgrounded by a huge silo. The brewery attracts a wide swath of ages, from families with kids to grandparents.

The partners built out a huge kitchen inside Comn Fare, almost bigger than the one downstairs in the Tavern, with the plan that it will be used as a catering kitchen for The Windsor Mill Event Venue, which is situated adjacent to the brewery.

Inside the Peculier Ales taproom in downtown Windsor is a new food concept, Comn Fare. With a goal of serving up food that’s fun to eat, offerings are a mix of bistro, beer garden, carnival fair and food truck. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Comn Fare’s space offers more than a quick service pass-through window, although automated self-serve kiosks make ordering a breeze. But as with the variety of food trucks that have helped define the craft brewery industry since its inception, the space is multipurpose.

In the morning, from 8 a.m. to noon, a coffee shop brews small batch LIMA Coffee Roasters beans. The brewery starts pouring beer at noon and the kitchen switches over to meal service.

Comn Fare also obtained a liquor license to serve cocktails and wine in addition to beer — and both the liquor and beer options show up in coffee concoctions.

Following the carnival theme, there’s also adult boozy snow cones.

While you’re waiting for your cone, marvel at the shiny stainless steel yet functional work of art resting on the coffee shop counter that’s used to grind the ice.

Because so many of Peculier’s beer styles are fun and playful — think of fruited sours like 3-0-Five Alive Fruit Punch and Dragon Orange Kinda Italian Ice, and the A La Mode series of ice-creamy, dessert-themed fruited sours like Blueberry Rhubarb Pie — it’s relatively easy to take a hard right into actual dessert (or cocktail) beverages.

After all, who wouldn’t agree that sipping a beer old-fashioned sounds like a reasonable alternative to being flung around on the Tilt-A-Whirl. Pulling in Peculier’s milk stout and imperial stout for double duty to make the cocktail’s simple syrup, it’s all hands on deck to make what might seem like common foods stand out in a most uncommon way.

ith the failure of a large bond to fund construction of new Windsor and Severance schools last month, the Weld RE-4 School District now has to find other solutions for student overcrowding.

The district this week has opted for the purchase of five modular structures, both new and used, containing 25 classrooms to be in place at five schools

by October.The cost of the modulars is $8.9 million and includes installations, accommodation for technology, such as wiring and door security, and fees.

The buildings will be in use at Skyview Elementary, Grandview Elementary, Severance and Windsor Middle schools and Severance High School.

The elementary and Severance High modulars will be new. The middle school modulars will be bought used from Eaton School District.

The RE-4 board of education approved the purchase of the modular buildings during its regular meeting on Monday.

The board is expected to name an interim superintendent this evening (Wednesday) during a special meeting at Windsor High School.The meeting begins at 5 p.m.The board interviewed four finalists last week.

The interim will begin work in early January following the upcoming winter break. The interim is expected

to lead the district through the end of the fiscal year on June 30.

The Wednesday evening meeting will include one hour of public comment at the start. The board will also discuss COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Weld RE-4 chief operating officer Jason Seybert said Monday six classrooms will be used at Skyview, Grandview and at Severance and Windsor Middle schools.The modular for Severance High will be a culinary classroom as part of the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming.

Seybert if the district could sell the modulars with the passage of a future bond.

Seybert said yes, selling the modulars would be an option. He added modulars for Grandview and Skyview will include restrooms in each classroom so the structures may be used in the future, with universal pre-kindergarten beginning in Colorado in 2023.

The modular for the elementary and middle school buildings should be ready in time for the start of the 2022-23 school year, according to Weld RE-4 director of communications Katie Messerli.

Messerli said the culinary unit is expected to arrive by Oct. 1.

Seybert said before the bond vote, the district was counting on 14 classrooms in modulars for next year. The 11 additional classrooms will add just under $5 million to the total cost of the modulars.

Overcrowding in schools was a key reason given as the need for the $179 million bond package by district officials dating to the spring. The student population in Weld RE-4 increased 83% from 4,082 students in 2009 through 2020-21 with 7,477 students.

All five of the district’s public elementary schools were near or above 100% capacity, according to district data from 2019. Severance and Windsor

Middle schools were both over 100% student capacity from the same data.

Amy Heinsma has been serving as acting superintendent since Seegmiller’s departure, and she’ll continue in the role until she begins work next month.

Also at the meeting, the board selected McPherson and Jacobson, an executive recruitment and development firm in Omaha, Nebraska, to lead the search for a full-time superintendent.

The district will pay McPherson and Jacobson no more than $18,300 for a five-phase process to extend into the spring, according to a search proposal from the firm.

McPherson and Jacobson is also handling the search for a full-time superintendent for Platte Valley Schools. Glenn McClain, who has worked in the district for more than 30 years, including 22 as superintendent, is retiring at the end of the fiscal year.

McPherson and Jacobson worked with the Weld RE-5J School District earlier this year to select a replacement for Leslie Arnold. Former Weld RE-4 superintendent Karen Trusler has been in the interim role for the Milliken and Johnstown schools since July.

ew Year's resolutions that were made this month may be short-lived. Most of us who have vowed to lose weight, quit smoking, or modify or extinguish any unwanted behavior are feeling frustrated and want to give up or quit.

Resolve means “bringing an end to something". Create a goal instead of resolving. Take it slow, trying hard or harder to do something often leads to frustration and defeat. More effort does not always equal more success.

Are resolutions the best way to bring change into your life?

According to Statistics people who explicitly make resolutions are more likely to obtain their goals than people who don’t, however, only 8% of people will be successful in achieving their resolutions. Perhaps this is because on top of wanting to achieve a health or fitness goal we are still dealing and trying to cope with the everyday stressors of life.The question is "are you mentally ready to commit to your resolution"? Take control of your life and be aware of your feelings and the natural balance you need in your life. It is only through our awareness of our natural balance within ourselves that we can identify fyy our needs and let go of the excesses in our lives.

A first in keeping your resolution and creating your goal is to turn your negative into a positive. Rephrase and Restate your intention. Instead of saying to yourself “ I will lose weight”, say to yourself “ I will be healthy”. If you are quitting smoki king i say to yourself “ I am a non-smoker”. Use visualization and picture yourself as you would like yourself to be slim and healthy. Draw a picture of the new you and post it on your refrigerator or on your bathroom mirror. Imagine your new self without a cigarette breathing fresh clean air.

If you are to change your habits and behaviors selfawareness, vigilance and determination are needed. Realize that discouragement is normal and encourage yourself and become a positive coach and give yourself recognition for the small steps you achieve. Celebrate your small signs of progress.

If you don’t work your program or slip back into old habits, forgive yourself and get back on track.

If the number is a low number and desire is low they will undoubtedly fail the program.

Creating an action plan is paramount to change. If your motivation is to lose weight, join a health and fitness center with a friend or inquire about a personal trainer. Create a schedule that will fit your needs. For instance, plan your workouts weekl kly l so that they fit in with your home or work schedule. Don’t get overwhelmed by schedules.

Change requires courage and support. Addictions such as alcohol, drugs, food, and sex are often driven by temptation and can often sabotage your success. Support and encouragement are vital until new patterns are set. Don’t be shy about relying on your friends and family for support.

Join an exercise class at your health club or talk to a mentor.

If you cannot make an internal shift consider that therapy can increase your self-esteem to move you towards achieving your resolutions and goals.

WINDSOR TOWN BOARD CANDIDACY FILING OPENS THIS MONTH

for the WindsorTown Board positions up for grabs in the Filing April 2022 election opens this month.

The municipal election will be conducted Tuesday, April 5.

Board positions representing Districts 2,4 and 6 are up for election, according to a town news release.

To apply, candidates must be a registered voter, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old by election day and a Windsor resident who has lived in the town and their respective district for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election.Candidates cannot have been convicted of a felony and cannot be an employee of the town.

Candidate packets became available Wednesday, Dec. 29 at www.windsorgov.com and at Windsor Town Hall, 301 Walnut St. Nomination petitions will be available for pickup beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4, which is also when petitions can start being circulated.

Petitions will be available at the town clerk’s office at Town Hall. They must be turned in to the clerk’s office by 5 p.m.
